The idea behind the raffle

The idea is to conduct a raffle where the winner has to choose 1 charity / donation cause from Milaap.org to donate 50% of their winnings.

10 slots for this raffle should bring in BTC 0.01 out of which BTC 0.007 will up for grabs through a randomized roll. This amount will be split between Winner's bag and Winner's Charity of Choice. Please choose a donation cause, not lending cause from Milaap.org

I plan to conduct at least 10 raffles like this, possibly more if you guys keep participating. After each batch of 10 raffles, I should have BTC 0.001 saved up in the Share for Legendster's Charity of choice category, which I'll donate to a charity of my choosing.

To pick the winner I will use the bitcoin blockchain to determine the winner.  The last character of the next available block on the mainchain after the raffle fills, chooses the winner.  10 Tickets will correspond to 0-9. In case the block's hash has the last character as an alphabet, then we will roll again. Once this picks up in popularity I will open up the alphabet slots as well.

I recently faced a medical emergency where my mother needed immediate hospitalization. I desperately needed some money so I launched a funding campaign on Milaap.org - it has not been successful so far as it has only managed to raise roughly $40 in 15 days whereas I needed at least 10 times the amount.
Luckily I found help from three people from here on Bitcointalk - I can only consider them to be angels..

Regardless, I hope through this raffle and with everyone's help from this community, I would be able to help some people on Milaap.org even when I wasn't able to get any.

I was unavailable for a few days. I'll be pushing this thread to respectable members of the community to see if I can accelerate the process. Once I am able to free up some cash, I'll sponsor a ticket or two myself.

I think you should advertise your thread to participants of the Ice bucket challenge ... meh ... Rank up the challenge! to let them know about such a charity raffle.

I was personally looking for charity actions by myself lately and have seen your thread but I thought that isn't a charity donation in straight meaning and wasn't sure it will be good to fulfill my promise.

But if you would advertise your idea and be accepted by the participants then why not, so I assume is worth to try.

Both threads just started and screaming for attention so this another plus to spread the word and advertise each other.

Not sure what you imply by advertising to them. Seems like a thread dedicated to ranking up, me trying to promote this there would be equivalent to thread jacking.

The idea behind the raffle is to attract regular donators. It is not really a great attraction when you tell people outright that their contribution would be sent to some random person in need. This is me trying to create an amalgamation of fun, minor gambling, and charity.

Of course, there is a certain section of this community and society at large who won't need financial / fun based motivation to donate but it's not fair or practical to count on them all the time.

This is not about the challenge but the donation requirement.

Member which lost the challenge has to donate to charity and that is where your charity could be advertised. I was one of the challenge starters and needed a charity to fulfill my requirement and after a long search was able to find only one such action on Bitcointalk to which I finally donated. There are a few posts about donations and I advertised charity which I donated in this thread too. That is why I thought about this thread after your reply.

That was just a suggestion and you are free to take it into consideration or not, nothing more. Just wanted to help.

I just want to let you know that this thread I was talking about could be already closed or without active discussion because after a couple of first challenges members lost the interest. There were not enough members willing to take the next challenge and after a few rounds, everything stopped. I am not sure what is the actual status of this thread because I am not the author only a challenge participant and winner, so I advise you to check it first. It was a great idea and could be really good suited for your charity raffle. Now it could be too late and you should do something when I posted about this back then. Even the best threads sometimes reactive only a couple of weeks.
