So i'm just wondering what's the current state of Cryptopia? By looking almost all coins have 0 volume. Is the exchange closed. Will it reopen? If yes, then when? Can someone update me on status of cryptopia?

All of your questions will be answered if you go through this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5097601.0

I guess that is the official thread for the Cryptopia exchange here in Bitcointalk. And the tentative date for re-opening for the exchange is sometime in June 2019.

No, that's not the official thread of Cryptopia in Bitcointalk.

I just checked the exchanges and I don't see much movement, although there latest tweet is that they are doing a on-going maintenance:

https://twitter.com/Cryptopia_NZ

"Cryptopia will be going down for maintenance at 12:00PM NZST. Maintenance is expected to last 60 minutes.".

It's really hard to trust exchanges that's been hacked, so personally, I will stay away and just go and trade somewhere else.

We could say Cryptopia is on a process of being 'resurrected' because the exchange was recently hacked, and suffer a significant amount of losses. The NZ police already made an investigation, and the cryptopia team is working on to reopen the exchange to the regular state. You can see the latest update about the exchange on the official Twitter account https://twitter.com/Cryptopia_NZ

Involving the police, that is the best step to take I most say. Though it may take long but I hope those involved in this should be brought to law.
Though I'm confuse, I have been hearing different stories that no money was made away at the cost of the event. Don't know how true is this, I guess we just wait till the website is fully updated to know whats next.

For now, it looks like the hackers are unable to cash out. Some of the alts and tokens have issued hard forks to make these stolen coins worthless and the other exchanges are refusing to trade with the stolen tokens.

This is the second time that they are hacked and there will be another one in the future, so to me Cryptopia is dead, and will only trade there if I only have a coin that can only be traded here, but I would not store any of my coins here, there are better exchanges in the market, and there are many of these exchanges.

Centralized exchange always has a chance of being hacked. Cryptopia was home for tons of cryptocurrencies even if it the shit one, somehow they able to gain mainstream attention toward Cryptopia, back then before the hack.

~ but I would not store any of my coins here, there are better exchanges in the market, and there are many of these exchanges.
Do you mean you still keep the coins in the exchange, but the exchanges is the one that you thought 'trusted'? The exchange wasn't mean to be the place to store a coin. No matter what security and encryption they provided. I don't know the condition when it comes to decentralized exchange, but in the first place it is never recommended to store in exchange, we better to store our coin in the project native wallet or for full security in a hardware wallet.

Cryptopia is now DEAD    Cry

https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/

Quote from: from their website
Press release
15/05/2019

David Ruscoe and Russell Moore from Grant Thornton New Zealand were yesterday appointed liquidators of Cryptopia

Despite the efforts of management to reduce cost and return the business to profitability, it was decided the appointment of liquidators was, in the best interests of customers, staff and other stakeholders.

The liquidators are focused on securing the assets for the benefit of all stakeholders. While this process and investigations take place, trading on the exchange is suspended.

“Given the complexities involved we expect the investigation to take months rather than weeks.”

The liquidators are also working with independent experts and the relevant authorities with regards to the company’s obligations.

Grant Thornton will be contacting all customers and suppliers about its appointment in the next few days.

Further enquiries, please email liquidation@cryptopia.co.nz

Good riddance. It looks like they're in the process of liquidation. There will be new exchanges being born like every month so I don't think anyone will miss that exchange except for those who loves to trade shitcoins and of course those pump groups. Time to look for other exchanges to continue their scheme.  Grin

So you mean to say I'll not be getting one of the shitcoin from cryptopia which I've there?  Sad

I really don't care much because the amount I have there is very small but wondering about others who have large amounts.

No. I had 0.06 BTC (in altcoins and BTC) on the exchange of which I manage to withdraw the BTC balance of 0.03 but the remaining amount is gone forever.

Congrats, you at least got half of it... Something is better than nothing.

A few weeks ago, I tried to withdraw my token but the wallet was in maintenance mode. Bad luck for me, it seems I'll not be able to get the token I have there.  Sad

Its officially dead since yesterday.

Liquidators took over cryptopia assets and everyone from staffs, shareholders, creditors and Us customers need to wait for our money for a long time. since this proceeding will take years to complete.

This is really bad and a good example of why people should never use the exchange as storing their coins, people have been been warned in the past about Cryptopia's weak security, it was very evident, it's just right that they close their business, because they cannot keep up anymore, hackers are getting better.

Until now, No official information to confirm their hack. Not a single Tx Details from all the stole coins. they just keep saying we lost that and this. but no concrete proofs. So the hack is probably just a self hack and their intention is to dupe their investors and customers.
