Gambling with your Parents

Although parents differs, my parent will never wanted to hear or see me close to a gambling center because they always preach against the spirit involved in gambling. I believe that many other parent will do likewise but not 70% will do. My gambling life is secrete and will keep it secret until they found out themselves. Gambling with ones parent to me doesn't make any sense and the gambler won't enjoy it.

I know some parents were strict when it comes into gambling as they don't like that their family members belong to the group of gamblers. Even though if they allow us but it is not our comfort to play with them, better to play with our friend. It is quite an offset to me.  

Just like you did, I play games secretly and I don't want my parents know or even I told them at this time. And it could be hard to play with them

Bingo and Mahjong was exactly the game the OP said he and his family played then when he was still young but I don't support of act of family gambling together at the same spot cause it lead to something just like the OP story. However, I disagree with you concern what you said about lottery and just because it require no skills doesn't make it an awful game.

The level of maturity applied to a game matters a lot;probably they didn’t apply some level of maturity through self-control. I notice that men are usually more addicted to gambling than women and since the wife knows about this, she would have been the one to balanced things and not make gambling an everyday habit.

I can understand how difficult it can be to pay attention to your partner when gambling gets deep into the soul, that is why we have to always learn to control ourselves, the foundation of the family was even founded on a wrong one because no responsible matured parents will allow their children to get exposed to gambling at an early stages.

As parents, we really don't want to see our kids getting involved in gambling. But if our environment tends to lean on to gambling whether as source of income or just to bond with families or just simply to have some fun then it's hard to control what our kids will do in the future.

So it’s obvious from your comment and from others as well that no parent wants to get their kids involved in gambling at any cost. Well, definitely we know gambling can’t be source of entertainment or even no source for bonding of family members. How even a parent can see his kid losing money and getting depressed? We all know the ultimate end result of gambling, ruined life and I believe no parent ever like it.

For me, don't let our kids learn how to gamble, sooner or later when they grow up, there's a big chance that it may lead to something that they are going to regret in the future, imho.

I am also having same mindset. I will never allow my kids involving into hard core gambling as it may spoil their future somehow. Few legendary people already shared here like, life will be better if not getting aware of gambling rather than getting familiar with gambling and then trying to stay away from it.

I remember when I was younger I played the national lottery with my parents, each Saturday evening we watch the machine picking the winning numbers together on television. I think this was a normal way of gambling 20 to 30 years ago.
Now I almost never play lottery but bets on sports and casinos each day, but my parents still play the lottery.

  Yes, those memorable days,,,, but now it is not an old era here we have so many other ways to gamble and to produce profit, it depends on our strategy how we deal with it, I never gambled with my parents but surely whenever I get to some site for gambling I make sure my parents are aware of it and they also give me ideas related to gambling even when they are not trained gamblers.

I would prefer to gamble with my parents or some friends so you can look at each other.
The problem with some gamblers is when they loss control and they do it alone, they will loss more and no one can stop them.
With your parents, you will get some advise because they are more matured than you.

I think I was still in grade school that time when they taught me how to play such. But we don't gamble, we just play. I call it 'playing' rather than 'gambling' because for me, a thing only becomes gambling when there is money and betting involved.

Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with playing those with your relatives or your parents even. But there should be self-control, discipline so that you would know your limits; you'll know when to stop. And it's a good thing that you don't want to expose your future children with such. Just give them other valuable and knowledgable items to play with.

Playing gambling with friends and cousin is ok but idea of gambling with parents is not easy digest. Yes, we can gamble with them in a friendly environment but if it involves money, it can create some mis- understanding between the children and the parents. Although parents do give money to their children and even children help and give money to their parents, but giving money on the basis of gambling seems a  bit awkward to me. It think the respect level is compromised if we gamble with parent but then it depends upon ones thinking

Good parenting will always do that, they will not allow their kids to do things that they knew will only have bad effects with them when they grow up, gambling will not bring anything good but else it will possible to get addictions, so I believe loving parents will not allow this to happen.

Gambling should always be for fun so that you do not have to worry much things about it. Only thing if you are playing with your family you would be in control as they would be their even if you go overboard to stop you and make you realize about it

Controlling yourself in gambling is not an easy thing to do and when you have so many online / offline people to play gambling, why would to still be willing to play it with your parents. It may not look nice that you gamble with your own parents for Money related benefits.

There is everything wrong in gambling with parents. I feel no responsible parents would expose their kids to gambling. There are so many interesting games family members can play together but it shouldn’t be gambling, once gambling is attached to a game, and then it becomes unsuitable for a family to play together, because that name gambling alone already has a bad reputation. I would have a bad mindset about my parents if they ever encourage me on gambling, let alone try to gamble with me.

Seriously you gambled with your parents? I am not going to be comfortable with it because we are supposed to get fun on casinos but it is not going to be possible with most of their parents.

Maybe my son or daughter will gamble with me hopefully without any issues.

Gambling among the family will get the family together but the family needed to understand very the risk involving, rules and regulations of the game and it not every form of gambling that is advisable for the family to play together or else their will be misconception between the family.

Gambling among the family will definitely bring them together since they have something in common but the consequences involve is so high and it not good for family to do something like that together in other to avoid the situation of what the OP said it happened between his parents.

Saying yes or no to this question doesn't matter since we can still make the same mistake in the future. If me and my parents could have a good time by gambling and can afford to lose then why not. I've gambled with my parents a couple of times before and it was with a scratching card since they're cheap we bought a couple and on the last card we won enough money to break even.

Yes I gamble and play with my parents it is one of our family time.
We usually play cards when we gamble but sometimes we bet with other stuff like who would do the chores who would clean the house.

This type of gambling   can be very interesting, because everyone would be battling to win since no one likes to do house chores.  But I would rather try gambling with my friends than family because at the end some siblings will not stick to their own side of the deal and that can be discouraging.

It reminds me of my old friend who always gambled with his family, he told me it is always fun until someone looses. According to him, gambling with family should not be considered gambling, it can cause misunderstanding. I have never tried gambling with my family, and I hope to do that someday so that I can know how it feels.

You really have to try because it can be so interesting.  Like you mentioned some siblings not sticking by their side of the deal, I would say that it is not always true. That’s exactly what makes it an interesting game, with everyone trying hard to win. 

I enjoy to play with my family, playing games with my siblings has a way of bonding us together and it is usually a time everyone can express their feelings in my house. Gambling with family members is interesting but it’s better to be played among matured minds, underage should be exempted.

It is pretty normal to us and I also play cards with my cousin of course it wouldn't be house chores but who ever lose would drink 1 glass of water .

But mostly disadvantages are here in this matter, actually we always afraid to our parents and that's why we don't do bad things, because we don't want to hurt our parents and if our parents courage it to play gambling, then the day will not far when our kids become addicted.
