Hi There,

I wasn't aware that Electrum was offline for older versions,  I recently wanted to transfer bitcoin to my computer and used the receiving address like I normally do in Electrum.  I then noticed the red circle in the corner where it states I'm offline.  I find out that I need to update to the newer version which I have done.

I notice on the receiving address it is now different from the older version however the older version is offline now.  Is there a way I can get the bitcoin back to the wallet I sent it from or redirect it to the new wallet?

Been buying bitcoin for a couple of years now and I've always been careful with it as I don't really understand how it all works but this caught me off-guard.  Really hope there's an easy solution to this.

Thanks for your time.

1. Check on https://www.blockchain.com/en/btc/address/your_old_address if you have the expected Bitcoins. It should give you some peace of mind.
2. I hope that you downloaded and installed electrum from electrum.org (and not from clicking onto a popup) since there are some fakes too these days.
3. If you installed over the old version you should have the old wallet. If you restored from seed you may have had 1... address in the past and 3.. or bc1.. now => this is not what you want now, if you did this please tell. However, you have to tell more exactly what you did to get correct answers.

Edit: bitcoin transactions are irreversible, but if both wallets are yours, if you keep all the wallets you'll get your money right. Make backup of all the wallet files. If you still have the old Electrum also try to backup.
File->Save copy.

Electrum changes the address every time you make a deposit to it so it is normal to have a different address.
If you open Electrum and click on the "Addresses" tab do you see your address listed there?
Did you download the latest version from https://electrum.org/#download ? ONLY DOWNLOAD FROM THAT SITE!!!!

~snip~

What's important in your case is balance of your wallet, so if you see green circle in the right corner wallet is synchronized, and if you did not become one more victim of fake wallet you should see the correct amount of your coins.

Another possibility is that you make clean install (by removing Electrum files), and restore wallet from seed, but in process of recovery you pick wrong type of address. In this case you will get completely different addresses and your balance will show 0.

Thank you everyone for your help!

I was going through each of your suggestions, finding the transaction information on the blockchain website.  I did download the recent version from the Electrum website and thankfully I kept both versions so it was just a simple case of going back to my older wallet and saving a backup and loading the wallet into the newer version.

I can now see my updated balance in the newer version of the Electrum software.  Seems to be just a simple case of me opening the wallet into the new version which I, embarrassingly, didn't think to do before creating the post.

Appreciate the help!  Smiley
