Help ! Electrum wallet

Hi there !

I wanted to send some bitcoin from my electrum wallet to another. The problem is that my wallet is in reading only and unfortunately I can't find my seed and I don't have my private keys. Is there any solutions for that ?

What do you mean by reading only? Is it shows watch only wallet from the top of the Electrum wallet?

If you don't have backup seed and private keys there's no other way to recover it.

As you maybe know, on any Bitcoin block explorer, if you know the address, you can see anybody's funds. That doesn't mean you can access that money.
The only way to send Bitcoin to another address is to sign the transaction with your private key.
This means that you need either the private key(s), either the seed based on which the private keys are generated. A normal wallet has them inside (edit, for clarity: a normal wallet is not watch-only; watch only wallets know only the address)

If you cannot prove you are the owner of those coins, you can forget about them. Maybe you should concentrate more on finding the seed (or private key)?

If you don't know your seed phrase you can check it again by going to wallet menu in upper left of Electrum then click seed(put your password if it asking) now you should see your seed phrase but if it shows error you don't own that wallet.

Do you still know where did you download the Electrum wallet? Because there are many fake Electrum wallet spreading through internet you should download Electrum to the correct URL it must be electrum.org

If you end up with watch only wallet it means you never actually have any control of the address that you listed over there. That's not a problem per se, your problem is how to relocate your seed or private key.

It is not possible to send any coins with that kind of wallet so I'm not sure how you did you spent your coins in the first place. If you have another wallet that you control and then send it to the watched address above then that might be the case. Make sure to double check whether the address is correct and for personal reason, do you have any control of that address or not. Sending coins to an address which you have no control over is essentially losing the ability to manage that coins.

How did you create your wallet in the first place ?

Normally, if you create a new wallet file, your wallet software will generate a long random number (seed) and encode it into 12 / 24 words (mnemonic code; easier for you to write down).
Then, based on this seed the private keys are generated. The private keys are needed to spend BTCs.
Those private keys are used to derive public keys, which are then used to generate addresses.

If you have the seed, you can create the private keys -> public keys -> addresses.
But if you only have an address / public key, you won't be able to get its private key (which is necessary to spend the funds associated with this address).


So, did you create the wallet yourself ? Were you given a mnemonic code to backup ?
Or did someone else 'send you the wallet' (Note that the only proper way of transacting bitcoins is to receive them to an address you own (with its private key / seed).


If you were just given the wallet file by a stranger, you unfortunately have been scammed.

there is no way to send in read only mode. you should know seed or private keys.
