received two second hand miners from alibaba site last month , after setting up realized that no hash boards preset in status page , first i tried using the dam ip report tool which did not work so using the little network knowledge i have i logged in to my router to locate address of miner when i logged in to status page i see that miner is not hashing.

im new to mining so any assistance will be appreciated.

Can you try to restore factory reset the miner first and check the kernel logs again if it still show "ASIC 0" or no chain.
Then reattach the 18 pin cable or replace it with working cable from another s9 (If you have extra) Check your power supply if the out put is 12v.

If it doesn't work try to upgrade the miner with this firmware "Antminer-S9-all-201711171757-autofreq-user-Update2UBI-NF.tar.gz"

thanks for response appreciated , i did a reset by holding down the ip reporter button then wait for miner to resume after which i see that it shows default mining pools from antpool but still no asic information nor hashing info its like no hashboards are present , however i tried updating with latest firmware for s9i from the bitmain site and still nothing

Your miner is s9 without "i" did you successfully flash it with s9i firmware? Maybe this is the reason why you can't make your hashboard work.

Beware on latest version 2019 firmware because it may disable your SSH access so be careful 2018 firmware is fine but the firmware for me is the firmware that I already mentioned above.

Just update here and let's troubleshoot the miner.

Check this useful troubleshooting guide below.

actually the version that is displayed on miner is s9i 14th although the hashboards say s9 inscribed on them , when i get home will try the methods you outlined and upload the kernel as i go along , its just a frustrating that i spent us500 + shipping + electrical setup and this whats happening

... however i tried updating with latest firmware for s9i from the bitmain site and still nothing.

ok congratulations, you simply locked yourself out , now it does not matter what you do, you are left with only 1 solution which is to flash another firmware using an SDcard

there were a few things that you could have tried, but it's too late now, since the latest firmware simply locks your miner, and by the way , yes you do have an antiminer S9i , so make sure you flash the proper firmware, but i would go with Braiins OS to see if it does make any difference.

but before you do all that, can you try a different PSU?

No need to make such drama, just boot Braiins OS from a micro SD card. Next version will allow installing from the SD card itself into the controller's NAND, once that is done there is a procedure to return back to factory firmware.

Of course if i were you i would stay with Braiins OS.

ok i install the braiins os by following instructions on site now the red light stays on and i cant access miner , should i try flashing with a previous firmware for s9i?

here is kernel log from second s9i miner seems like they both saying same thing:

ok i install the braiins os by following instructions on site now the red light stays on and i cant access miner , should i try flashing with a previous firmware for s9i?

Do you mean boot from the SD card by moving a jumper? That procedure is not permanent, you can simply take the sd card out and move the jumper back, and its like nothing ever happened. It doesn't "install" it, only boots from it. If you can't boot Braiins OS using this method maybe your miner isn't supported, i don't really know what the difference is with S9i vs S9, i have only seen and worked with S9.

When you boot with Braiins OS you should try to find the miner IP again, its probably using dhcp, it won't use a previous configuration.

im able to locate ip address ,  i booted from sd but the red light just stays on . maybe its for s9 model only not sure.

this is the image file i used based on the latest release

braiins-os_am1-s9_sd_2019-02-21-0-572dd48c.img

ok i was able to flash miner with braiins os through sd card boot , however the model dsplayed is : AntMiner S9 Miner Control Board. is it that i dont have a s9i miner has originally seen on the miner label?

please also  see kernel log

Let me ask about this image below.

It seems that you have extra miner to test the hashboard why not get the control board from the working one and replace it to the other miner with "no chain" and then lets see if it a hardboard issue or only from control board software/hardware.

It seems that you already switch to Braiin OS I don't have much  knowledge about this OS and I don't think if it will work on s9i much better to revert it back the firmware and troubleshoot first if the problem is related to software or a hardware issue.

If you don't know how to revert it back you can follow the guide from here S9 series (S9, S9i, S9j, S9 Hydro) Control Board Program Recovery.

But if you decided to stay using Braiin OS and test then start to configure the pool to test and let's see if it works.
Check this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-W3N0HCObbA.

He is wrong. You do NOT install Braiins OS by booting from SD Card, its never "flashed", you are simply running from the SD card. Next version of Braiins OS will allow actual installing (into the NAND flash of the controller), but this feature is not available yet. If he takes out the card Braiins OS is gone.

To "flash" Braiins OS in the current version, you need a working factory firmware with ssh access (no 2019) and a separate computer to either use the web UI firmware upgrade method or the much safer python script that makes a backup before flashing and can always be reverted back.

When the next Braiins OS version comes out he will have an option in the UI to actually "Flash" it into the NAND controller, then he can take out the sd card, move the jumper back and it will still boot Braiins OS.

If Braiins OS is working then its best to just use it. It doesn't matter if it says S9 or S9i as long as it works.

yes i have two miners but they both not showing asic information , when i flashed the board with braiins os i did not connect the hashboards so when i reach home will try to see if switching to braiins os will show the hashboards

here are the kernel logs for both miners

It doesn't matter if it says S9 or S9i as long as it works.

you are correct , i did not flash the miner with braiins os , im simply booting from sd card . when i get home will put in the hashboards and see if the boards show up.
