Importing and Using Imported Address

I tried importing a wallet address to armory. While it imports the thing just fine, it does not let me use the address as a normal receiving address and does not update the balance when the imported address receives funds.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong here? Or does armory does not allow this at all?

How do you import an address without importing the keys first?  I wasn't aware you can do that, the only way to import an address is by importing the keeps and sweeping. If I'm missing something let me know.

It's possible, only as watch only address, which bitcoins cannot be sent from that address.

No, it's not a syncing issue. I think after nearly 7 years using crypto of all sorts I'd be able to tell if its a syncing issue.

The issue is adding imported address into Bitcoin Armory and using it as a regular address within the wallet.

Like I said, the import only sweeps for funds, is there a way to use it the way a regular address would work? Much like how Electrum works?

Import and Sweep are totally different features, maybe you misunderstood it?

When you Sweep, it will make a "Max/send-all" transaction using the address derived from the private key of that "imported address" and send it to an address within the wallet.
It (the input) will never be re-used nor saved to the wallet which why the balance from the later transactions didn't reflect to the wallet.

What you want is to Import the private key of the address, I believe that there's an option after pasting the private key: "1. Sweep and 2. Import".
Select the second option.

I'd also think that after 7 years you'd be able to correctly speak whether you imported a private key or an address.. But unfortunately that's not the case either..


You might start off with telling what you exactly did. 'I tried importing' doesn't tell what and how you tried to accomplish it.

You can import private keys in the section: Wallet properties -> Import.

Also, as nc50lc already said, you wan't to import the key, not sweep it.


Note, that this private key will NOT be included in the backup you have of your armory wallet. It has to be backed up separately.

As others have mentioned, you can both sweep and import in Armory. This is a "either or" option within the import dialog, represented by a radio button in the bottom section. The default is sweep, which is probably what you used. You'd have to explicitly pick import.

I'm going to look beyond your snarky comment and assume you're here to help. So, no, neither importing nor sweeping is showing the balance.

However, I have tried importing the address into Electrum and it worked fine.

The wallet you have imported the key(s) into: I assume you have set the wallet owner to be "yours"? That'd only affect the transactions and overall balance, not the value next to the individual wallet.
If yes, then definitely provide log files as goatpig requested.
