Smartphone manufacturer HTC has become the latest to pledge support for blockchain technology, following an announcement from the firm in recent days that it intends to launch a new blockchain phone. The Taiwan-based electronics giant unveiled the plans at the Taipei 101 investment forum late last week, in a keynote speech on decentralisation delivered by HTC Decentralized Chief Officer Phil Chen, according to Taiwan News. The phone, a second-generation blockchain device, is set to be commercially available by the second half of 2019, which the firm hopes will expand its presence within the global blockchain sector. Chen said that while blockchain technology was still developing, it was already changing the world, with the promise of “tremendous commercial potential” in the future. The HTC executive was quoted by the Central News Agency saying that the value of blockchain as analogous to the commercial value of petroleum from the early 20th century, in terms of the impact he expects blockchain to make on a global economic scale. It is always good the see many companies are adopting blockchain technology on their product. In this case, smartphone is a good product to adopt blockchain technology but the main problem is about its price which is always too expensive. Unless some smartphone companies decided to launch affordable product with lower price, I dont think this kind of blockchain smartphone will get high interest from the bitcoin community.

Frankly speaking, companies will adopt Blockchain technology becasue they have seen many others that are doing well in this industry. Blockchain are now taking over some major industry around Games, Banking, Phones and communication. HTC are welcome to this awesome achievement of Blockchain technology.

The first I know was Samsung and now this HTC! Something is really big that is coming and adoption is almost here in the horizon.
If I have to look its the future its the phones that will be used to jump start the adoption of the crypto because almost all of the people in the world owns a mobile phone and can access the internet anytime anywhere.

This is a very positive outlook for the blockchain technology by people of a smartphone company and of course since these are leaders of a big industry they must be talking with facts and vision on their heads. I am sure that right now competing organizations are also looking into how they can similarly capitalize on this development. Soon this exciting outlook can be spreading to other industries and organizations. There is no question that the blockchain technology as pioneered by Satoshi Nakamoto is now spreading like a wildfire.

It is important to remember that blockchain may be used outside cryptocurrency sphere. And many of those companies that announce that they are implementing blockchain into their activities means that they for example may just store some of their data on blockchain which would limit their security costs or some other expences. It will have absolutely zero impact on all cryptocurrencies. The same thing is probably happening with smartphones.

For me it's all the same. Security's going to be the main issue with this. Whoever did the coding for those integration has to be loyal if not, a small tweak or hack can zero every funds in those wallets. Secondly, it's same as other wallets- keep your private details private

I've also seen some announcements from the major companies that their smartphones will have in-built crypto wallets. It's likely that many people will learn about cryptos for the first time from their phones. It will take time for people to start using the feature, though. Moreover, sometimes the companies are not doing a good job with these wallets. For instance, Samsung's one only supports Ethereum and nothing else: https://www.newsbtc.com/2019/03/06/samsung-galaxy-s10-bitcoin-ethereum/. Also, even though I like the idea of this popularization, I myself would probably never use a mobile wallet, because I don't trust these companies with my cryptos and because losing the phone and losing the money along with it sounds too risky to me.

Isn't it possible that they're doing it for competition? Samsung has done the same thing last time. However, we could still consider it as another adoption which could help the development and growth of cryptocurrency. I can't wait to see how will that smartphone work especially for crypto lovers.

What do you expect? Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon, even smart phone companies. So they need to stay on top of the competition since Samsung has also plans, although HTC I think is the first to include this tech on their smart phones. So let's see if this could bring adoption in the next couple of years.

Well I do.hope that they can make it more.faster so as to see how these things will going to.work out. There are times that an interesting project might do good after posting a news regarding to it but it will take away the interest of the people if the project will get delayed. This should how they considet putting up a time frame on everything for the project to be implemented.

If its only a wallet integrated on those Smartphone i wont use it. I will still use my offline wallet installed in my old laptop without any other program besides the wallet and those pre installed software. As a guy mentioned at the top developer should be loyal or else everything will be gone with just a snap of a finger (Thanos snap).

It's actually not clear if it will be just an app pre installed or the phones will work like hardware wallets and obviously as a smart phone. I think it will not be just an app pre-installed. But if it will work like a hardware wallet, how safe will it be known that it is a smart phone and it needs to connect to the internet?

Agree, I won't risk putting my money on my smartphone. I would still choose to secure it in a hardware wallet. It's really amazing how blockchain adaptation is becoming a trend, from financial institutions, banks, companies and now gadgets. I beleive that mass adaptation and awareness is inevitable and soon we will reach a point that cryptocurrency and blockchain technology will be widely used by everyone.

Doubt it. HTC is not on top clearly when it comes to smartphone competition. Samsung, Apple, Oneplus, Xiaomi etc are the front-runners from a long period of time which is why a blockchain smartphone from these companies could push adoption upwards drastically.

People aren't much excited about this news because HTC phones are quite expensive. They provide the same specs which a mid range phone provides at a much lower cost. I had created a thread earlier about it which might be of your interest. Just in case you wanna get more opinions, visit the below thread. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5137395.msg50823273#msg50823273

This News and article always popping up, I think there is another thread in here that includes topic about this smartphone that will be providing us with Blockchain Technology on their HTC mobile devices, But I guess this can not be a great idea for them, Because I think this is not the time for many people that will use this kind of application on a phone, And because HTC phones are very expensive in my opinion this can be another triumphant for them that will not be so popular with some consumers, just saying.

Even though HTC is not very popular among smartphone users I think we should look positive at this news. Probably not many people will use this HTC phones incorporated with blockchain technology but still we are moving one step forward towards global adoption with every company that starts working with blockchain technology.
