Hi All

I have a Ledger Nano S

I have always used the 'Ledger Wallet Bitcoin' and 'Ledger Manager' in the chrome//apps.

I have used this with NO problem since i first had my ledger over 1 1/2 years ago.

It has worked fine BUT would not open this morning for some reason so i just installed 'Ledger Live'

Device was added authenticated etc.

I then went to add accounts (I presume each coin is an account as it gave me coins to choose from?)

I selected BTC as that is my main coin. It is now stuck on synchronizing as in pic below for over 1 hour (it used takes 3 mins at most on old Chrome app!!).

https://imgur.com/pu35M6Z

EDIT -I have NOT removed the old Ledger allet Bitcoin and Ledger Manager from chrome

UPDATE-

I removed Both chrome extensions (BTC wallet and Ledger Manager) as BTC wallet was not working?

I have updated my device which was a strange procedure.

It would not allow me to update to from 1.4.1 to 1.4.2 - it stated something about me having Bitcoin and Ethereum?
I tried deleting BTC from Ledger and that was not allowed, so i then tried to removing ETH and it did and allowed me to updated to 1.4.2.

After that it showed another update to 1.5.5, i proceeded with this and it required me to unplug Ledger and hold left button and plug back in.
It then updated the Bootloader and the MCU and the FW to 1.5.5.

I then had no coins/accounts on my ledger.

So i selected ad accounts, selected Bitcoin and it is back to synchronizing again...

EDIT - on my actual Ledger when i navigate to Settings>About it states Version 1.3.8  Huh?

Still will not sync??

Dragonizer, I see you update to latest 1.5.5 firmware, and I guess you are using latest Ledger Live and coin apps? If you can confirm that all is up to date, then you should check your internet connection and your antivirus / firewall settings. Some tips related to connection issues and how to fix them can be found on the official website : Fix connection issues

Nano S can be also used with Electrum, and in this way you can check whether the problem is in Nano S or in Ledger Live ( something else). Regarding 1.3.8, it is version of bitcoin app, there is no firmware with such number. To check firmware : Navigate to Settings > Device > Firmware -> The firmware version is displayed under Secure Element. Check the firmware version

Thanks for reply, i did have Comodo send a few messages to allow ledger live access which i did.

When i know goto Setting when not logged into ledger live/BTC it does show -Secure Element 1.5.5 and MCU 1.7.

I have just turned Comodo and firewalls OFF, i have also checked on Ledger Website and all supported coins are all OK.

Will try again with everything off or try BCH...

I usd to use Electrum years ago, think i could try that (delete the folder in appdata first though)

Cheers

UPDATE -

It has synced with Comodo off, not sure why as i allowed access?

Not sure if i will have to stop it everytime or is there is a way to allow it??

I presume i will have to go through adding with Manager/synching/deleting EACH coin i had on Ledger now???

I also presume that the values of my portfolio will ONLY be updated on a particular  when i have that coin on my ledger and that coin is synched so it only shows the last known syn/balance?

Cheers

This is TOTALLY unusable/unresponsive..

When i know open the LL it just sticks on synch but at the top this time.

If i try adding another coin with manager, i plug in ledger /enter pin and gets constant spinning disc.........

If i close down and open again i get sync again...

If i try to send any BTC it just hangs/unresponsive!!

It's TOTALLY unusable!!,

I can not sync (although it did it ONCE when i added BTC), i can not add other coins, i can not send BTC..

My laptop is ancient on Win 7, could this be a problem? I have closed down everything on task manager and it shows 4 instances of LL running and using 30% CPU, 40% mem with fan on FULL..

FUMING is an understatement....

No need to erase anything from Electrum folder, just download latest 3.3.4 version from Electrum site. It is very easy to pair Nano S with Electrum, just follow instruction in Electrum. This can be alternative way of access to your BTC if Ledger Live is not working correctly.

Comodo firewall just need to be set up to allow Ledger Live incoming / outgoing connection, and when Comodo is ask you anything related to Ledger Live just click allow and check option to remember this setting / rule. You can also determine this manually for each program if you check firewall settings. More help how to using Comodo firewall : The Complete Guide To Using Comodo Firewall

Ledger does not officially support Windows 7, and I can tell you from my own experiences that Ledger Live is not working on my W7 as it should. Sometimes is working normally few minutes and then crash, sometimes is just crush in a matter of a few seconds. Try to allow all connections for Ledger Live in your firewall, and see if that help. Otherwise, you have no choice but to start using Windows 10 / Mac / Linux, or to use Electrum for BTC.

Yea it's my laptop, it's actually my old spare that i am using that is the  problem i think, it's an Acer Aspire 5920G.. Cheesy Cheesy
It can barely stream video and more than five chrome windows open it lags/fan speed is like a petrol lawnmower (iNtel Centrino inside..lol)

I give LL access through Comodo as usual, think it was that i did not wit long enough to sink with it on, that's irrelevant.

I used to use Electrum years back and know how to pair ledger with it...

I've got my BTC and BTH on there, but its sooooooooo slow its unreal, open it, takes 20 mins to sync, try to send BTC takes another 20 mins to calc the amount, IF i than manage to paste an address into it ift freezes up..

Do i upgrade to Windows 10 on this (i HATE it but have read it uses less resources and is stable with LL) or shall i spend £250 on a new laptop??

Plus my Windows 7 in dodgy so i would not know how to upgrade (i only found out it was when i tried to make an image off my disc and it would not accept the S/N)

I am CLUELESS with specs on them, i only like this as it has a big screen 15.4" screen and loud speakers..lol

I have been looking at refurbished ones on Ebay but none the wiser tbh..

Like these Dells?? - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ULTRA-FAST-WINS-10-DELL-LATITUDE-LAPTOP-i5-WIFI-FREE-P-P-With-Built-in-Webcam/163430233285?var=&hash=item260d3374c5&enc=AQADAAADQFjVrDbVsZ8oH%2F8PNHtt9VX4%2Fw7FZcmMuqsX8uaFEduVOJ6mdio9AKONkixmC66gvOhM383rlXdt9%2BJrnKwFLszDg5qh0KmpkRfw6c%2Fs4btqGK5Se9ErR7uVDPGHHaD%2BI5glcF%2Bf0VIE9H8NQUip5TlvLgUcRqhucehe%2FIUKCxK%2BHjRuGOPodic0QQzy1XjrEa3naRkW7RfziaSR37yaD40O0ABXibCxiW5I7rOQWKqgEsB53OwOXSN%2FgwUNiuPp1GkAi2MCCcsVp%2FLYCjisQGaZw6KNdOjzxWemhSHq7pVfdjnhFWfJoX14mjUTvgaf5L3Uf8JbMv8ppi6qNysHmfaZwANp%2BZo6GzcOpv7gv6vMros0%2BrclipipsxmDN2VC9%2FPsRTyM%2BP3i3tf%2BfQz59GMQXrSZ9I85Uwm8D6Fg%2FeL2uNg9%2FE9htip%2BVnAwX1uFa5MlEZlU%2FsaCXK0%2Fi%2B0Tb6cQ5tGO2S8WVIRyGXWbK8DdSKq3SnpMFhGYZvztuG%2FnEiPWx5KM%2BlY4wcNn%2Bz50K1S%2BVwB9IKUwEgnO08QF%2FXyx9wLqIxDFWHPYRP0bGVI6I3DKn9yTiUnBau%2FypMWn%2FfThwvxZtd1hBDzYWN3DrpDlM14a4K7%2FUa7eXu7XbNUvDkAt10lgBhHnyKc4dwjCXMkD1OgvrAQZSWbnT98qZKVFt5LEkEPVLqo8Ga%2FqRLmUZP5DTybiPpgGmh3w3kYaKPx0Gv%2BZin5nklctyEkGogLfPpwrR04ZIkxmGT7%2BgaG4F6BGJGm1dvbU0XLKr%2BMCeEUAhMggk6IyO%2BwTAnbPLsAVnD54wJTDMFzJYW83H5gjjTYJfOW23%2BnsqvWVxc4Va3K%2BUnQLcPfioD9Co947pXFaDeUPR1tp%2FP0qEHMpNOORGYBk9GpkBlg6q%2B5%2BgqkI1i195Yl1O8%2FNcy70OLFb1yYYWDZZfEqAn7uH%2FjfXX82o%2Bn5fpHivdAMEWxXQ7PoVdMSp6uBudxYIgm3SvTMJ2fiFCG4HkdYctXoKTHlMnXCC%2FOdBY9anJyU0%2FugdH8jPntVoWU8mc4Kz6SU0YOPCQp177HtRUViEbxsXtkX7xonsbD4qGUpnuGPNFjzEGfvlJFw%3D&checksum=16343023328502b7783058ad4d6cae961b619969dc3f&frcectupt=true

Your problem is both a combination of you using Windows 7 that is not supported by Ledger Live like Lucius said and probably an old out-of-date laptop.
Do you have any other laptop or PC that you can connect your ledger to?
I have used Ledger Live today and yesterday to receive some bitcoins and everything is working just fine.

Also, please try to avoid posting multiple posts one after the other, it's against the rules. Instead, edit your previous post.

If you can get a copy of Windows 10 then you can try to install this OS to your old laptop, there may be some improvement, but I think your hardware is too old. Very important thing is amount of RAM, and 4 GB is some minimum to make it all work smooth.

New laptop would be the best solution, and this Dell does not look bad. What I would advise is that you not save money on RAM, take at least 8GB. Only bad thing with this model is maybe too old CPU (Intel Core 2 Duo), but if you not play games it will be good for surfing and crypto wallets.

Cheers guys,

I've cancelled order on laptop for the moment and been doing some reearch/laptop/netbook forums and will get a i5 8250u with 8Gb ram and 256 SSD first as last

Something like these (not sure on what make/brand though) -

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=8250u&LH_PrefLoc=1&_udlo=290&_udhi=330&_mPrRngCbx=1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1311.R5.TR6.TRC1.A0.H2.TRS0&_nkw=laptop+i5+8250u&_sacat=0

Electrum works fine with my Ledger so i can trade BTC, all other coins i am stuck with atm.

Thanks for advice and i will avoid multiple postings, i was not aware it was not allowed.

Thanks

If you are person who does not buy such devices often, then in any case it is better to buy something better which will last longer and it will be much more comfortable to work on it. The specifications you have just mentioned will make it possible for you.

I think Nano S should work with any other Electrum fork, so if you have BCH, LTC, DASH and probably some other coin try to use it with Electrum. Second option is to try Ledger Live in safe mode with networking, some users report that they manage to finish firmware update in that mode, which means that it is possible that Ledger Live maybe works in this way.

I updated Ledger and the MCU, i just had to remove Electrum for some reason, i find that Ledger has supported all main forks for coins it supports thus far, then again i can't keep up with what's happening there are so many, i also have coins on MEW/LEDGER that i 'think' Ledger supports so will start another post on how to transfer them, but i suspect it will be simple enough.

I also have some still on Binance and Ledger now supports them plus i have XRP, Iota, Verge and a Deadulus/ADA wallet links on my desktop!!

Last time i opened Daedulus i gave up as it was taking to long to download the sync, plus i'm not sure where my password is BUT i do have a folder with backups/recovery hidden.

Thanks

p.s NOT looking forward to Win10!...I have only used it twice and found it virtually impossible to navigate anywhere, it's af if it's laid out for kids with touchscreens..lol, But i stated that when moving onto Win7 from XP...
