@rdbase. Similar to the underestimated Justin Gaethje, Sean Strickland is also a former champion who might also be underestimated for this fight. I will certainly not bet against Sean who is the UFC's king of strikes defense that he has learned from dodging all of the punches from his father when he was a young boy. This is a skill that he has learned under very traumatic occurrences and he has become the best MMA expert in defense because of this. My prediction will be Sean Strickland will have the victory through a decision.

Now that you mention it the UFC is becoming like the WWE with their storylines and that story could pass Strickland off for being a wrestler in that company if he gets cut from the UFC anytime soon.
But then again, they could be building him up so to be on the fightcard for the White house event. Who really knows with these two companies now mirroring themselves in under the TKO umbrella anyways.

It's no longer up to Dana anymore as he has stepped away from the day to day business and let Hunter Campbell take the reigns instead. As from what others are stating on here, so I think everybody has heard this news by now.
Think he is concentrating more on the Zuffa boxing and promoting his new project. Wonder if he will give up on that powerslap organization too. Since he sees where the prize fighter money is with less work for him to do every weekend during those post fight interviews. Where he was answering questions which seemed to make him frustrated and upset by the end of it all.

Tom Aspinal has gone through (another?) double-eye surgery this week and currently things are not looking very bright for him.
According to the Mirror, Tom doesn't know when or if he will resume his career.
Right now his vision is messed up pretty badly, but hopefully it will just take some time for his eyes to recover after the surgery.

He lashed out at the UFC saying:
"I love martial arts. I absolutely love it. I’ll never stop loving it, but I just hate the business. I think that fighters are just completely replaceable and the business will make you feel like that any chance it gets. Even if you get hit with an illegal move, which could affect the rest of your life, they don’t really give a s***. And no one else does either."

I also heard rumours that the UFC wants him to vacate his belt if he's not able to return soon, to which his (or his team's) response was that he's happy to do it if they release him from his contract. Allegedly, he wants to be able to get in the boxing ring, which likely would earn him much more than he could ever get in the UFC (this is something his father has been mentioning even before the Gane fight).

The state of the heavyweight is at its lowest it has ever been. They lost Francis, then Jones, now Aspinall is sidelined and also wants out. There's literally not a single exciting/dominating fighter there at the moment. Probably the one attracting the most interest is Derrick Lewis, that's how bad things have become.

If it takes him long to recover, then UFC should take his belt and remove him from rating, like the did to Rakhmonov after second leg injury. They would be fair. It would certainly be very headshaking if uncle Dana has stepped away from the business because he is still the CEO and the president of the UFC. I reckon the real boss of the company is him. I just remembered how Aspinall was telling that Bones was ducking him and holding division, now he is doing the same lol I think it would be fair to vacate title and get busy with health, recovery, training, and then demand a title shot when fully recovered. Gane - I think he wont even be punished for what he did, because heavyweight division is in decline. Punish him and he will quit or avoid fighting for as long as possible. Without big names division and UFC would die.

This is getting to be an interesting conversation because if you look into it further more fighters are leaving the UFC due to injury and not just Aspinall. One that comes to mind is Shavkat. And that really was a devasting blow when I heard he has put off of any cards this year until further notice.

That is why heavyweight division is broken long time ago Aspinall isnt really a champ btw. Got only interim belt, defended it. Did he has a real belt? And got at least one title defense? No

Acosta has 3 wins, Pavlovich 2, Volkov 1 and 1 controversial loss. Why not Aspinall vacate belt, challenge that belt among those 3, winner fights Aspinall when he recovers. I think such outcome will be right and fair.

I have asked ChatGPT "when I can return to sport after eye laser surgery" and it has replied that 1-2 month is recovery period, but light sport activity can be done on 1-3 day. So Aspinall at least should jump on a bike and start doing cardio, as in the fight against Gane his cardio imho did not look good.

Theoretically, at least, Almeida could save this, but after his dismissal, everything is uncertain in the division. Gane should take over, but he lacks skill and is still tainted by the finger poke. Aspinall will definitely leave; are they going to put some random fighter no one's ever heard of in charge? This division is very sad.

It's a fight that, honestly, nobody asked for. I didn't see anyone expecting it and, to be honest, I can't understand exactly what this fight is trying to promote. The other fights that Netflix has shown were even more exciting. But I have the impression that the female audience, like me, only knows Ronda, and that's been the case for decades.

I enjoy your posts and sense of humour, but when it comes to Aspinall you're just being a dick for no good reason. The guy had Gane's fingers inches deep in his eye sockets and there's a risk he could never fight again, and you're just implying he's a coward and should've just shrugged that off.
You know it's a real human being who dedicated his life to the sport to keep people like you or me entertained. Show some respect and a minimum of empathy instead of kicking him when he's down.

There would be no questions to Aspinall if:

• He first starting talking that Bones avoided him and fighting, when Bones took a 2 year pause without any explanation. He made fun of that. He has told that Bones is scared to fight him. Now what Aspinall is doing? Took pause himself, and nor UFC, nor he, nor his team, nor his doctors say when he is returning.
• That injury is nasty. But, we are not living in stone age. Medicine has gone far. His case is not a unique, so it is possible to tell period how much it will take to recover. If Aspinall would have announced, look, I have an injury, I am having operation on <date>, it will take <this> much time to recover, I might start real training on <insert month>, expect my return in <insert year>. Add some extra months just for the case, to be fully prepared. No question will be asked.
• If he was just a regular fighter from roster with injury, nobody would give a damn. But he is a champion, a heavyweight champion, probably baddest man in whole UFC roster right now. With millions of followers and fans all over the world. Whole MMA community are looking on him, and there is such a silence from his side.
• He has said that he cant see, he has operation, but that does not stop him from shooting videos with bloggers (kicking them for fun, showing some movements), shooting videos in gym. He is such a media person now.
