I am setting up an Electrum server just for Bitcointalk members, this should help a lot of people with connection problems.
The server will be DDoS protected and will be handet out to people who are having problems with connecting or members who specify the reason they want to connect to this server.

@ThomasV: PM me for the root password of the server if you want it.

At the moment bitcoind on the server is downloading blocks, after this is finished i will setup Electrum server.

People who want to use the server post in this topic WHY you want to use this server, i will PM the server details.

Hope this helps.
The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

1. To confirm this is just an Electrum server, nothing changed/altered
2. The more private servers, the better  Wink

Great idea. I think the ddos has left us for now but there it's good to have a failsafe. I just used the ddos to stop checking my balance Smiley.

The ddos might actually have done some good as it meant people won't have sent anything while those fees were so high...

It's funny to see something good in DDoS attacks on Electrum servers, especially when it comes to fees. Many would not have agreed that saving few satoshi is worth all the problems which these attacks have caused. Some users have decided to look for a new wallet after all problems with Electrum, so if some of them invest in hardware wallet, this is the only good thing that came out of this situation.

Yeah right, about 1% of Bitcoin's total transactions were halted by the DDOS attack, great help Grin

People who want to use the server post in this topic WHY you want to use this server, i will PM the server details.
Is it okay to start posting reasons now?
Well, I'm always sticking to a single server to avoid issues like the past few months's. It would be great if there's a reliable 100% uptime server that I can use.

By the way, if it requires the same info like mocacinno's server I might stay with the current server Undecided

Is this private?

Which information ?

He only needs your IP to whitelist it. And any server you are connecting to knows your IP (without knowing your IP, a connection would not be possible).

OP on the other hand does not follow a white-/blacklist approach. So he obviously doesn't need your IP (but he still will be able to see it, obviously).

That's true... but a normal server has no way of connecting your IP to your Bitcointalk username... unless it is is the Bitcointalk server (or they somehow hack the Bitcointalk logs) Tongue

Don't they get your ip and xpub keys?
So it would be possible to work out your bitcointalk username if you posted one of those addresses here (of course you could use a way to hide your ip).

But OP could still create a link between the username and the IP, even without explicitly asking for it.
At least if not hundreds or thousands of user will ask him for the server details in a short amount of time.

But even if a connection can be established, i don't see the problem with it. It's not like your account or anything is at risk if such a link exists (especially since most people have dynamic IP's which regularly change or beacuse they are sitting behind a NAT of their ISP).

The xpub is not transmitted to the electrum server.
AFAIK the electrum client is asking for recent transactions on single addresses (basically all used addresses + gap limit).

So the information it can retrieve is which address you send to / receive from, the time you send/receive and your IP.
