It's interesting that, from certain perspective, the volatility of bitcoin is not such. Nowadays it may be high compared to standard currencies, but everything depends upon the viewer, or the timescope you see.

So, if you open bitcoinwisdom.com and select a 3d view in Bitstamp, and, in Settings, set a Logarithmic view, you will see three clear steps upstairs, with slight downs after each peak. May be you have to adjust the size with the mousewheel a little.

It's interesting also to view the 1w view (also in Logarithmic view) which shows a sinusoidal ascendent serpentine.
