This is what we called maturity when people move along the time, never live in the past but seeking things in the future that may generate new developments

I will not stop being an Ape(as what science says about human evolution ) Sad

We can’t stop the improvements mate just accept that fact and respect what people wants as long as this don’t affect your life nor brings bad to you

But I totally agreed that people must not kneeling to anything they want as this is not the basic way life should be,we are human and we are the highest form of living things and must not kneel like that

Yes theres so many things we should believe first believe in God.
Believe of whats God created.
Believe in people.
Believe in everything that exist.
Why we should believe in anything?
This is because this is our life,in life should have belief.
Believe in God so He will help us.
Believe in people so theres some one can help us in facing our problem.
Believe in everything that exist because this is what we see.what you see is what you get.
Yes I do believe in anything.

We still believe in anything but the fact that believing all the time can be a disadvantage too, we can be easily brainwashed like what we are on right now, the media are brainwashing us telling the lie instead of truth but some of us we believe without looking to much deeper on the story itself, to be easily understand is we tend to judge without looking at the context of it.

As of now we still believe in anything not just anything but everything.

Like technically as of now do you think you still believe in anything? I conclude that we have our own belief, and as human that has different perspective, we all do have different believe too.

^^^ Trouble is, if we finally find that our belief is what really exists, we just might be so close to death by that time, that we won't be able to formulate a new belief that is more in line with reality.

Yes? Anything that can be proven with evidence or scientific explanation. However, people are fooled by others using their belief. People with knowledge uses it as their advantage to take control of the less educated.

One thing I hardly believe is the church. I believe that we have one God but no, not the church.

Through History, we have believed in different stuff. The Sun. The Rain. The market. We already overcame Nietzsche, Palahniuk and Fukuyama. Nowadays we CARE about stuff. We worship immediacy. And religion is still a big part of the human experience but beyond that, do we care about anything else outside the reach of our fingertips?

Most people don´t even take a glimpse at the bigger issues. What about the water and the Earth? Is family still such a strong value? We don´t believe in society or politics either. What´s the next monolith we will kneel before in the future?  Huh

the monolith of most people here is money, or bitcoin Grin Well, things have not changed much, technology advances but humans are narcissistic, love their own creations, do not evolve morally, it is a pity.

BTW I'm pretty sure that sun and rain exist Tongue

You fail to mention a few beliefs we have in common with humans from past centuries.

These have been here before our generation existed. And To answer your question, these beliefs would be stronger in every coming generation. It’s a constant, doesn’t change but gets stronger. I guess it runs in the genes. This is one of those times I wished I was a scientist, and could prove this.

What's the next monolith we will kneel before in the future? We need to destroy all monoliths. You mentioned Nietzsche, always one of the most perceptive thinkers: "Freedom is the will to be responsible for ourselves."

The old certainties of religion are fading. The newer certainties of belonging to a particular social class / nation / ethnic identity are blurring and fading. The world is becoming more global, and more fluid. Politicians are revealed as liars, we can't trust them. It is incumbent on us as individuals to be that: individuals. The established rules and consensus are slewing away. We must each make our own decisions. Fundamentally, we must each take responsibility for our own actions (or inaction).

Do we still believe in anything? I think this question is both a challenge and a source of inspiration.

Have you ever heard of the Roaring Twenties? People in the USA became bad people. There was all kinds of sexual sin, just like today. There was all kinds of murder - Bonnie and Clyde (into the '30s). People were becoming bad, and they were becoming irreligious, and against God.

Then we got mixed up in WWII. People went off to war and died. Their families turned back to God, became religious again, and prayed for peace like crazy. The Allies won the war. People thanked God. And ever since, the people have been turning bad again.

This time people are becoming so bad that they have killed of millions of babies through abortion. We are essentially murdering each other right in America. And abortion still reigns.

Personally, I think that we might be past the point of return with God. He might have destruction set in America's path. He might only be delaying it for the sake of the few godly people that are left. But when the Godly are gone or protected, God is going to let America feel the full blast of His anger for all the evil they have done.

We choose our beliefs but because of our environment we have see or think in a good way as we think because we have different perspective in life.

If our environment was good then we can still have a good beliefs and believe on how or when do believe our community.

When you are no longer pressed living for survival, you can start wondering about "beyond the immediate" issues.

You know it would be real nice if some superior sentience did in fact provoked evolution by placing a monolith :3

To become space faring, one would argue the world issues would be solved. Most popular sci-fi shows present earth "unified" (and even the aliens, they seldom stop and thing an alien world with sentience would have several countries and contradicting positions).

But it makes sense that we would need to overcome our differences, somehow, for true advancement. This is what happened in the very early history of humanity in the modern day Iraq region with the city states that formed after the constant flooding forced the people to cooperate building canals and whatnot.

But then the materialistic will tell you, life is too short to think about things you will never experience. We won't be here to see the last bitcoin minted, for example, who knows of an archive of this forum remains for future generations.

Can you overcome your immediate needs? One thing that Austrian economics teach, is that if someone is willing to, say, forego their immediate needs of working to earn a salary to eat everyday, in order to study or make something that later would easy his living, then this person will live much better later after the sacrifice than not sacrificing and remain living the same as always.

So if you catch a fish with your hands everyday, painfully and slowly, but one day you stop and think and invent a fishing rod, then later your fishing will be much easier and you may even get time for "new" things.

Some people say this space exploration stuff is nonsense when there are so many world problems to solve, for example. Why do it?

I don't have the answer for who is right and who is wrong. Perhaps exploration will bring a discovery that will benefit us all as a whole, or perhaps not. Research is like that, regardless. You can spend countless resources funding projects that end in nothing, but was it better than redirecting all those resources and feed the poor? What if you do find, say cure for Cancer or such?

I don't have the answer for who is right and who is wrong.

Me neither. It's difficult to advocate spending billions of dollars on space programmes when there are billions of poverty-stricken people on Earth, starving, suffering and dying from curable diseases.
One positive for space travel is if we can establish a self-sustaining colony somewhere, moon or Mars, then we have at least improved the chance of survival of our species - a meteor strike or nuclear war would no longer wipe out everyone.

No we are like the nihilists from the big lebowski we believe in nothing
I still believe that man is inherently good. The different circumstances and situations in earth make a man do everything even bad things in order to survive. Nevertheless, we could still believe that anyone could change  Smiley

Let me take the discussion to some broader context. I think that all the concepts which we use in our life to explain or describe anything are based on beliefs. And it doesn't matter whether we are talking about scientific, religious or social issues. All the concepts we operate with are just beliefs. There is only one thing we can be certain about and that is: "I" exist. The rest are just phenomena in the field of "I": thoughts, conceptions, ideas, etc.
So the answer to the first question "Do we still believe in anything?" is: "We believe in everything".

How are you sure that science provide you the accurate results they should?
Science can be manipulated as well due to the fact that ordinary people cannot make tests and experiments. You get what scientists give you.
Similar to religions.

Except in great pain or great joy. When one has great pain or great joy, his beliefs are shown to be something different than what he would have suggested that he believed before.

"We worship immediacy"... I think is the answer to this question on its own.
In today's world, and this is largely due to the rise of social media and cell phones in particular. What we worship now is instant gratification, whether consciously or not.
Here lies this issue... as most of us are looking for speed, we want everything and we want it NOW. But with that comes a cost, like you said, we no longer "believe" in politics. This is mainly due to the media, and their push to meet this new consumer need of instant gratification. As a result, the media will push out anything they can, as long as it is fast and it grabs attention. We no longer believe in or value truth over speed, and news media knows that. It does not matter whether they are right or wrong, they will race to be the first to get it out there, because attention for them, no matter good or bad attention, means profit.

In my opinion, our generation or the next will start to come full circle. As the new age takes over, we are losing things such as interpersonal connections, privacy, etc. We will begin to cherish these things more and more until the things we worshiped in the past are what will be sought out for in the future.

For example, as technology has advanced, populations in most developed countries no longer have to think about where their next glass of water comes from. Water is easily accessible, and as a result, begins to lose value. However, as we know, water is finite, and it won't be until we realize we are running out that we will begin to cherish it again. in fact, it is popular opinion that the next world war will be waged over water!
The Netflix series "Explained" has a great episode covering the water crisis and covers this point well.
