Hello! I successfully deposited Litecoin 3 times to address LNonYyjqv26DWzZPCpYsaquuxXJT9XGCiH. 17 d ago  I sent another deposit 12.90700351 LTC. It was not deposited. When I contacted Cryptopia I was informed that

Following the events of January 14th the Cryptopia website was placed in maintenance to prevent any further issues from arising. Any users who sent deposits more than 24 hours after we announced the security breach (15/01/2019 12:00AM NZT) will not be recovered.  This means that if you sent funds after 16/01/2019 12:00AM NZT we will not be recovering those funds for you.
I wonder, why Cryptopia can not refund that LTC, if they have private keys?

Collateral damage.

I would say stay away from Cryptopia for a serious amount of time. Do not deposit any coins there.
sorry for your lose, I am not sure if you will be able to recover your coins.

Hello! I successfully deposited Litecoin 3 times to address LNonYyjqv26DWzZPCpYsaquuxXJT9XGCiH. 17 d ago  I sent another deposit 12.90700351 LTC.
on their news page and twitter they posted a warning about deposit address
you made a deposit on Apr 23, 2019 which is after they posted the info on 16~17th
you should read the news/updates before making deposit specially when that exchange has just been breached

I wonder, why Cryptopia can not refund that LTC, if they have private keys?
they surely have created new wallets for all coins, hence old wallet addresses would probably be discarded
if they saved their old wallets, they will need to manually export pk of your address, import then recover your coins
they could do all that but they probably won't make an effort and waste their time for your mistake

UPDATE - 17 April 2019
Deposits and withdrawals are now enabled for BTC, LTC and DOGE on a structured basis.
Users must generate a new deposit address to send their coins to. Any coins sent to an old address will not be recovered.
~
25 March 2019
Do Not send funds to any existing wallet address that you have generated on Cryptopia, ensure that you have generated a new wallet address before sending funds to Cryptopia.
Be forewarned anyone depositing coins

https://twitter.com/Cryptopia_NZ
Quote
Please ensure you only deposit to newly generated deposit addresses.
Deposits to old Cryptopia addresses will not be covered.

Unfortunately, they made it clear that if you deposit in your old address, it will not be recovered (quoted above, but here's the direct link of post). They have included same info in the email update that was sent to users and I'm pretty sure that there is a note in the deposit page too about it.

Accept it if you can't get your LTC back since it's your mistake.

Did you read about their news?
There are still many other exchanges, and we have binance, poloniex, bittrex, kucoin and the other good exchanges, and you sent your litecoin to them?
Next time, please check on the exchange first before you deposit any coin so this will not happen again in the future.
I only hope that when you deposit litecoin in their site is not because there is a big pump happen in that site.

After what happened to cryptopia and the long duration of being in dormant situation, I seriously doubt that I will ever use that exchange again for trading purposes. The OP should open a thread under the scam accusations board and post screenshots of his deposit transactions. Maybe cryptopia will take his case seriously.

You should've checked the website or read updates about the site first before depositing to an exchange. If they have made an announcement about it, then you should just say good buy to your deposits. You should've read an update since they have been hacked.

Pretty much everyone is going to tell you the same thing. It's unfortunate that you've lost your coins, but honestly you need to verify that the address you are sending funds to is the correct address. After a massive security breach like they experienced, it seems strange that your assumption was "business as usual".

If I had to guess, they may have access to those keys, but they were probably informed not to access those wallets as they were probably accessed by the attackers as well. Meaning any activity is probably deemed criminal at this point, or any additional funds may be seen as something they can use if there is further activity. Either way, I don't see you getting your funds back; similarly to if you sent it to an incorrect address that ended up in the hands of some unknown person.

This is why you should always pay attention to the news and their announcement.
It is an expensive lesson for you and this would be a great example for all of those user's that are lazy enough to know or read the announcements.
They have made a public announcement yet you ignore it so it is basically your fault.
They could retrieve it but they are too busy maintaining the website and other things so I think you should just move on.

There reasoning is very unprofessional, if they are doing it to all it's clients there is a big possibility that cryptopia will surely colapse. I saw also that this kind of reasoning is very sketchy, they only prove that they are like scammers as they are not willing to return the money that they received.

Better stay away from them so you can make sure that you will not lost your fund again. And if there are anything in their terms and regulations that you can use against them to get your money back then use it but if you can't find anything then it's best that you should stay away from them. And make sure that you already learned from your mistakes.

When tons of post in this forum informed and announced everyone not to transact with Cryptopia anymore, post the so called HACK. Why did you initiate a deposit with them. They themselves have made a Public announcement on their Social Media about not sending any deposit to old address, still you go ahead and make that deposit. So, who's Fault it is?

It is better to move on and forget those LTC.

It's also happened to me, sent some coins (bitsend) to old deposit address on cryptopia and it ended with nothing i can do. Even the wallet still in maintenance until now.

I already remove cryptopia as a recommend exchange. So folks never use cryptopia again.

Not doing your due diligence and in the end blaming the exchange will not help you.
You should take the lesson, that you will keep yourself updated, or generate new deposit address  before depositing. Same issue can happen with you on any exchage.

PS: I guess , cryptopia can create some fee structure for recovering these coins. So that both party can resolve these issues ambically.

This is a very bad situation unfortunately. Cryptopia reported that he had suspended all his wallets after the hacking incident. I think the only thing you can do is to ask the private key of that wallet from Cryptopia if your investments are still secure. I hope it does.

I had a bad experience from Cryptopia and I have learned from it. I realized that I have to be careful about choosing a trading site. I advise that you choose other trusted site next time.
Try do research before depositing next time.

I'm sorry for you loss. Maybe next time you really need to be careful and follow the current news about the exchanges you wish to deposit to. And I don't think they will help you out, sorry to burst the bubble for you.

Expensive lessons to learn and charge it to experience.

It is clearly my fault. And it happened this way: I have address book at Binance, where this address was. I pasted new address, but somehow it changed to another from address book - it was Cryptopia address.

First of all, this thread should be moved to the Exchanges sub-forum:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=223.0

If I am not wrong, a few others users have already faced similar issues and you can view the details on the Cryptopia thread there.

Secondly, I can only blame the user here as the exchange had warned everyone not to deposit any cryptocurrency of any kind to the old addresses (and this was done many months ago).

There is still a chance that Cryptopia will refund the coins in case they are able to recover them. But it is entirely up to them to decide whether they want to do that or not.
