About a day or two ago, I ran into this French gentleman who jumped into the Indian section - because his signature campaign encourages posts in local boards.

Now don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with that campaign requirement, but to find someone who's jumping in the local boards in the middle of a thread and post something that is completely unrelated is a little bit annoying, to say the least.

As a result, I posted a warning on his campaign thread so the CM can take a look. Here's a sc of my post below.

This NEWS is a news about the Indian Govt, I think it's an important news but which doesn't need a new thread for itself. So I posted it in the thread which fits the best.

So I don't understand what's your problem with it except my signature?

I have posted 9 posts in the Indian board since May 2. Do you think it's too much?
I have received 2 merits for these posts from indian members and I have been quoted several times.
So your accusations are pure defamation.
If you don't want "strangers" in the Indian board^*, you just need to say it to me, we can talk about that but you don't need to defame me here.  
I'm a hero member because of the merits I earned so I think I know what and how to post correctly. Thank you.

As you guys can see, he's been posting somewhat off-topic replies in the Indian thread and obviously, copy-pasting stuff. He thinks I was out to defame him, honestly, I don't have time to track such shit. It was just something that came up when I was browsing the thread myself. He didn't exist for me before these couple of days and I am sure the feeling is mutual.

And then I ran into another one of his posts, take a look :

Word-for-word copy paste, no quotation to show it is actually sourced from the main site.

The only part of his post where he does use quote marks - to indicate that he is copying from somewhere, is a quoted statement itself that the article pulled from CryptoKanoon twitter handle.




Here's my question,

Am I wrong here to point out that this guy is jumping in a thread with off-topic copy paste jargon just so his posts look big and mighty at first glance but in reality they're not adding any value to the discussion that's going on, disrupting it with something entirely off topic?
I mean come on! We're discussing how the Indian govt is cheating its people and out comes Mr Saint with a post about some blockchain certification course?

And then he goes on to compare my "merit" in the last 120 days vs his and how he was "merited" more number of times than I was?
I've never been in the merit game and I've voluntarily given away merit in the past through merit giveaway campaigns. Why would I go out of my way to "defame" him? And frankly, that pissed me off a bit.

If any mod sees what Mr Saint here is doing is in clear violation of the copy-paste rule of the forum, please don't ban him. Just clarify to him that what he's doing is wrong and I am not out here on a Saint-hunt.

Also, if I am wrong, do let me know. I would modify my posting behaviour as well. Just put the link to an article and copy paste in everything from there.


And finally, to answer Mr Saint on this quuestion :

Read again. I explicitly mentioned he's a Frenchman. In case you don't know what that means - He's from France. I am from India. Please don't refer to us as "that Indian" or that guy as "that French guy" that's not a nice way to address someone.

In my opinion, whilst putting the article text in a [ quote ] block would, in my opinion, be the "best" way to go about quoting articles... Putting the link to the article makes it fairly obvious what the source of the article actually is.

It isn't like the user is attempting to hide or obscure the source of the text, or pass it off as their own work (a critical component of plagiarism).

So, personally, I wouldn't call this a case of plagiarism at all... more "poor posting style". Having said that, simply quoting an article with no critical thought, discussion or "added value" could possibly be classified as "shitposting"... Even the OP in that thread is doing the same thing...

I don't like the way people are stealing entire articles (robbing the original author of a web hit) and justifying it by adding a link to the source.

The accepted method is to copy the first few sentences, and that is it.

I came to the Indian board for the Cloudbet campaign, because it's the goal of this campaign to post in the local sections(Philippines, Indian, Russian & French).
But as you can see in your own post you welcomed me by attacking me and saying I "should stick to my french communities" because I"do not understand the Indian mentality" (in bold) which is highly agressive for a newcomer who doesn't know the members of a section. (And I think it's against the rules because everybody can go everywhere here and doesn't belong to only one community)

So I didn't try to comment anymore on the threads but to only post few interesting news about India when I found them.
I've only posted 9 posts in total in the Indian section in 10days, and earned 2 merits from 2 Indian members for them. So you can't say I've spammed "your" board.
Moreover Hhampuz can check that I didn't need to post in the Indian section to rich the maximum paid posts of the campaign. I easily reached it with my posts in the french section.

Now you are accusing me with this post you found by digging in my history and you are saying this post which didn't pose a problem to anyone until now, is bad because we could think it has been written by myself and is not an article despite the link... but Who could think that?

I obviously forgot to put this title in bold, maybe a mishandling on my part on my tablet, I don't know. I'm sorry for that, but is it so serious?
The sentence is above the text, and the journalistic style is obvious, and again nobody can think a post talking about "A committee formed of — but not limited to — the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), along with the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA)" is not a quote from a newspaper. I didn't mix a single comment of mine, this is just the main quotes of the article.
So I don't think an honest man can pretend I tried to fool people.

Furthermore if it was a malicious act on my part, don't you think I'd have deleted or edited it since your vicious accusation of yesterday?  
As I said to you yesterday, I got 21merits from 10 different people this week, so I don't need to do this kind of fat and malicious things to fill some quotas or whatever reason.

I don't know why people's should go another sub-board for increase post count instead of posting own sub-board. It's really a worst idea that a user just use copy paste full post or most of part  and use reference link. Look like they are using reference link for avoid ban. We should use small quote from anywhere just for reference instead of full quote. I think if a user did same like on multiple thread, then likely moderators would temp ban.

I like the news and I'm happy to read them when other members post them. And I don't think, but maybe I'm wrong it's forbidden or a bad practice to post them. It's the first time I read that. On the most commented thread, the Wall Obverser thread, most of posts are news and are merited by renowned members so I think you're wrong or I missed something.

wow.. tldr to the rest of your message but a really good job in understanding the title of a thread that clearly states "How Indian Govt. cheated the whole nation (NewsFlash)" - I don't understand how you are actually expecting anyone to assume that you just saw "newsflash" and jumped in to say copy paste an unrelated topic article without a single word written by yourself.
