There is no "best" bitcoin wallet. It's pretty much down to personal preference.

What I suggest you would do, is to check out the reputable bitcoin wallets we have right now, test them out yourself,  and choose the one that you personally like. I have some wallets listed on my site(shameless plug): https://coinsources.io/bitcoin/. Just scroll down a bit to the Wallets section.

I guess you are asking for more secure bitcoin wallets, you may choose paper wallets then if you don't like hadwares.

There's a topic here that enumerates all the different wallets, you may want to read and learn from it

Hi,
Which is the best wallet for long term Bitcoin holding other than hardware wallets.

How long you will hold for your bitcoins? If it's for years then just choose hardware wallets, it's more safety for your coins or dekstop wallet like Electrum.

Tbh i'm not recommend online wallet if you want to hold bitcoins for long term.

I recommend electrum as the best wallet for bitcoin. wallet with many features so that the security of wallet assets that we have can be much more awake. many wallets try to display this, but that electrum still gives a difference and in my opinion it is excess electrum compared to other wallets.

It is all about the users, there is nothing as the best wallet. I personally prefer electrum for instant transactions as it gives the convenience of using it through mobile. Other than this I prefer blockchain wallet, though it is an online wallet it looks promising as I haven't come across any issues and once caught into the hands of a commonmen. This happened when someone entered my Gmail accidently, but they were not aware of it. I got the notification and suddenly restricted.

It depends on the users preference. For me storing your bitcoin online is not secured because there's a chance that it might get hacked or someone might have gain acceas on your credentials. Most of the people who are into crypto woukd prefer using blockchain wallet since it's easy and convenient to use. Just make sure to be cautious when storing your crypto online.

All wallets are good if they are not connected to the internet. If you planning to HODL for more than year than I recommend you to used paper wallet. You can also check Atomic wallet, it comes for both desktop and mobile. I have been using both for quite sometime and have not faced any problem. Always remember to generate Backup your wallet that you will use to store your assets and keep the backup Seed words somewhere safe.

Hi,
Which is the best wallet for long term Bitcoin holding other than hardware wallets.

Personally, I have been using wallet a long time ago https://www.blockchain.com/.In principle, problems with him never had.But still, if you plan to store Bitcoin for a long time, it is still better to use a hardware wallet.

Hi,
Which is the best wallet for long term Bitcoin holding other than hardware wallets.

The best Bitcoin wallet depends on the user so I think, there is no really general best Bitcoin wallet for the fact that all people do have different preferences on choosing their wallet which is good for storing their cryptocurrencies not just Bitcoin but also other cryptocurrency. All wallets do have their unique features that fits the different needs and wants of the people. So people are the ones who choose their wallets which fits to their needs and conclude that it is the best wallet to store up their Bitcoins. Well in my case the best Bitcoin wallet for me is the wallet that is generated by our country which suits all my needs compacted in one wallet wherein I can also store up BCH, XRP, and ETH.

Hi,

If you going to do longterm hodling you going to need a hardware wallet. Don't try to cut corners you will hurt yourself. You going to invest that much time in hodling then you can afford a decent wallet.
I know your question was meant to not include hardware wallets as part of the answer but you asking something like "what kind of tires should I put on my car if I don't want to spend a lot of money" some things you just don't skim in life, it just isn't worth it. But if you want to risk your crypto just to save less then $100 then you, not a serious investor. I would use electrum wallet.

So far electrum is the best wallet I've ever met, you can visit the site https://electrum.org/.
Electrum also supports multiple addresses, so you don't have to worry about transaction fees. And the safety of electrum itself has so far been very good and no doubt.

It depends on how much funds he has. If it is a small amount, I don't think a hardware wallet is really necessary in this case. Desktop wallets should do the job just fine in this case.

If it is a large amount, hardware wallets(Nano X etc) or paper wallets should do the job as you mentioned.

Hi,
Which is the best wallet for long term Bitcoin holding other than hardware wallets.

The most secure wallet is hardware or preferably paper wallet but thsi depends on the individual involve in the storage. Protecting wallet against hacks are the sole responsibility of the holder. Whatever wallet an individual uses and protect to me looks good as best, so, protecting the wallet make it the best.

Hi,
Which is the best wallet for long term Bitcoin holding other than hardware wallets.

There is the traditional bitcoin core client, but it can take a long, long time to download the entire blockchain. I have had pleasant experiences with GreenAddress and Jaxx, but I recommend you store the passphrase in case your software crashes or your computer becomes inoperable. Storing the passphrase in a safe place is critical.

Personally, I have been using wallet a long time ago https://www.blockchain.com/.
you can look for coinbase wallet for long term holdings

Are you guys really suggesting to use a web wallet for long term storage ?

This is probably the worst of all possible ideas..

I have had pleasant experiences with GreenAddress and Jaxx

Jaxx is not good either. Jaxx doesn't protect your private keys at all.
Once, someone gains access to your computer, your funds will be gone.

@OP
If you want to hold your coins long-term, without accessing them frequently and don't want to use a hardware wallet,
you should either use a dedicated offline device (e.g. old laptop / computer) or a paper wallet.

Long term storage doesn't require your wallet to be connected to the internet at all. It is way more secure if you store it completely offline.

You don't even need to create a 'traditional' paper wallet (which can be quite tricky to spend from regarding change addresses etc.).
My suggestion would be:
  • Download a live linux distro
  • Boot into your live linux
  • Download electrum
  • Verify the signature of electrum to make sure you have the original one and not a malicious fake version
  • Create a wallet in electrum
  • Write down your 12 word mnemonic code (this is used to create all private keys associated with this wallet)
  • Write down one (or multiple) addresses of your wallet
  • Make sure you have your 12 word mnemonic code!
  • Shutdown your live linux and format the USB
  • Profit.

Then you'll have your 12 word mnemonic code which can always create the necessary private keys to spend from your addresses.

If you want to access them, simply again use a live linux distro + electrum with your backed up mnemonic code. You won't have to worry about change addresses because they are included in your seed (derived from the 12 word mnemonic).

Note, that you don't have to actually use electrum. You could also use any BIP39-compatible wallet (for more compatibility in the future).
Even though electrum does not generate BIP39 mnemonic codes, you will still be able to always derive the seed from the mnemonic. Even if electrum doesn't exist anymore by then.

Hi,
Which is the best wallet for long term Bitcoin holding other than hardware wallets.

There is no such thing as “the best bitcoin wallet.” But undoubtedly, hardware wallets are a great option. But if you don’t want a hardware wallet, you can consider paper wallets. In the paper wallet, you print out a sheet of paper with your private and public keys, which is stored in the form of QR code. Also, these wallets are not connected to the internet that protects it from hacker theft.

Also, you can refer to this guide here “Choosing the right digital wallet to store your cryptocurrency.” It will surely help you.
