Ledger Nano S is stuck on waiting for commands while neither Yoroi nor AdaLite manage to connect to Ledger. Ledger Live is connecting just fine. No idea what to do, any help? Running Windows 7, tried both Chrome and Firefox.

This was already discussed, it is better to use an updated operation system. Like Windows 10.

One important thing is that ledger nano has a limited number of installed wallets in your device. You may need to remove other altcoins first to be able to install Cardano Wallet on ledger nano device. Then you can install them back again when you need. This may be the problem?

I found those guides, recommended by ledger nano website:
https://github.com/vacuumlabs/adalite/wiki/How-to-use-Ledger-Nano-S-with-AdaLite

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JuuG9UHslggDy_7D0d1i76mOD_9T2E0Jp5jWsEB9ScM/mobilebasic#heading=h.9sgcc9pdsquf

I can't really buy a new computer right now.

I have the Cardano app installed on Ledger.

I tried the steps you provided, when it comes to it, neither Yoroi nor AdaLite will connect to Ledger.

Hopefully someone has better input.

You don't need a new computer. You can install it for free and windows10 will be probably lighter than windows 7 (at least in my experience)... You can also try etfbitcoin suggestions, which are good.

Are you experienced with ledger?
You need to manually open Cardano Wallet in the device (using device buttons) so that the software (yoroi or adalite)can connect to ledger. Did you do that?

 it might be the problem.

I don't own Cardano, so I can't be specific to these wallets, but I have ran in to similar problems various times when trying to connect my Ledger to third party applications. Here's a couple of things I've done in the past which have helped:

Update Ledger Nano to latest firmware
Ensure any other connections to your Ledger Nano (such as Ledger Live) are closed
Ensure the wallets aren't being blocked or restricted by a firewall/sandbox/antivirus/etc
Try a different USB port
With Windows, you might also need to update your USB drivers, see here for more info: https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005165269

The ultimate solution might simply be that these wallets are not compatible via Windows 7. Even using Ledger Live and Windows 7 can cause major issues.

Yes, I have Cardano all open as per instructions. It remains stuck on "Waiting for commands".

I would really like to keep Windows 7 and solve this, I dislike Windows 10.

If it does turn out to be Windows 7 which is the limiting factor, you could try installing a Linux distro on a USB/CD/harddrive partition and booting from that, and then trying your third party wallets on that. Or are there any other Cardano wallets which are compatible with Ledger devices you could try?

Ok, so I just installed the Cardano ADA app on my Ledger Nano S... Then I did the following:

- started the Cardano ADA app on the device and it sits at "waiting for command..."
- opened adalite.io in Chrome, selected "Hardware Wallet" and "unlock with Ledger".
- Pretty much instantly, the device screen changed to: "Export public key m/44'/1815'/0'"
- Clicking both buttons on the device switches to: "confirm export public key?"
- Clicking "confirm" option and the wallet opens.

NOTE: I am on Windows 10

I did some more testing and found that if I open adalite.io first, select "hardware wallet" and then "unlock with ledger" BEFORE starting the app on the device, it won't detect... I had to reload the website.

So make sure you do:

1. Open Cardano ADA app on device and sit on "waiting for command..."
2. Open adalite.io, select "Hardware wallet" -> "unlock with ledger"

If that doesn't help, then it might be some weird Windows 7/Chrome issue Undecided

Have you considered trying a "Live" Linux USB stick? Basically, you boot Ubuntu (or other Linux) from a USB stick directly without needing to install anything or modify your main Operating System installation.

At least that way you can try and see if it works which might indicate that the issue is with Windows 7 and/or the Windows 7 drivers before you do anything drastic... speaking of, have you tried uninstalling all the device drivers for Ledger using device manager, rebooted and tried connecting it up again?

Disconnect the Nano S. Open Device Manager, use "View -> Show hidden devices" and then go through ALL the categories... right click on anything "Nano S" or "Ledger" related and selected "uninstall drivers". Then reboot.

Then try connecting the Nano S again and let it reinstall itself.

I haven't tried reinstalling drivers becuase evering else (Ledger Live, Neon Wallet) works fine. I guess I might have to do that and will also consider using live stick.

I will give my personal opinion on this.
Your decision to keep windows 7 is not rational.

Windows 10 is faster, lighter, better support, safer and they are updating it more frequently. Also, it is a free upgrade. There is no reason to keep windows 7.

The interface is very similar, as you can also keep start menu in windows 7 style. It is much better than windows 8.

The programs you are struggling to use were made for windows 10. Their support is for windows 10.
You may even lose money using that os. You are already losing time.

Just put on Google "windows 10 upgrade" and download the upgrade file from Microsoft website for free. You won't regret. You won't even lose any file, no need to format. In less than 2hours your problem will probably be solved and your computer faster.

bitmover, are you sure that Windows 10 is still free for upgrade from Windows 7? Maybe there is some trick to do that, or Microsoft is limited that offer to certain countries, but I only see option to purchase W10.

Quote
There was a promotional free upgrade offer available when Windows 10 first released, but that offer expired July 29, 2016.
You can purchase and download Windows 10 on your device today. Although, if your computer is more than three years old, it might be time to consider upgrading to a new device. We would love to help you find a computer that’s faster, safer, and delivers the new features Windows 10 has to offer before your current PC slows you down.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-7-end-of-life-support-information

dogtana, did you try to update to latest Ledger Live and also update to latest Cardano app on Nano S? I am not sure is Nano S get support for sending transaction via Ledger Live for android, but if you have Android 7+ or iOS 9+ you can try it with OTG cable. The question is can you use adalite.io and Nano S on smartphone, or it is only limited to Ledger Live mobile.

I recently upgraded my father's computer for free. Just Googled it and download an installer, all went fine and smooth
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3159635/windows-10-update-assistant

Take a look here at this article, saying that it's still free. from April 2019
https://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-how-you-can-still-get-a-free-windows-10-upgrade/
Quote
Here's how you can still get a free Windows 10 upgrade

Microsoft's much-hyped free upgrade offer for Windows 10 ended in 2016, right? Not exactly. The GWX tool may be gone, but all the other upgrade tools still work. The end result is an apparently valid digital license, and there's no evidence that the free upgrades will end any time soon.
