Soo.... after like many many months, I logged into my bittrex account to move some of my coins(I know, I SHOULDN'T HAVE KEPT IT IN THE FIRST PLACE, I AM A HYPOCRITE(lazy)) from there, only to realize that my account was disabled. And upon contacting the support, I was told that the only way to enable is to verify my account, and to do that, I have to give my documents.

And I am not so sure if I want to give those documents to some random dude in a random country. There is like a couple hundred bucks in there, but uhhh, I am just undecided and am in some sort of dilemma right now.

Advice away, people.

And spammers, fuck off.

I also have a frozen account on Bittrex with a few NEO stuck because they want me to send them my documents. It's been 2 years already. Smiley
I bought them at ~$6 each and they reached $160 at some point, so it kinda hurts. But I prefer to keep it this way.

I don't think there is anything you can do (other than verifying your acc). So, that's up for you to decide.

Personally, I don't see too much problems verifying your account in bittrex. It's not a random scam exchange. It has thousands of verified accounts and years running...

I am verified in a few good exchanges (not in bittrex) and I think it is worth being able to deposit/withdrawal some Fiat in good exchanges. I would definitely verify my account for a few hundred bucks in bittrex.

If you need to sell your coins in Bittrex exchange or just to have to trade in there you've nothing to do is to verify your account. Bitrex exchange is one of the reputed exchange so far and I personally didn't have doubt on it.
If cryptocurrency is not prohibited in your country then submitting verification documents is not a problem there, the decision is yours.

But first, maybe you need to read their FAQ too regarding verification process if you don't mind.

I was in the same situation when they started forcing KYC, and after a while I sent them an angry-looking selfie. I still hate them for doing this, but it was the only way to get access to my funds again.

You really don't have any option except to do the KYC or not.
If you think the amount you have there is large and it worths doing KYC then do it otherwise leave it there if it's a small sum and doesn't worth doing KYC.

We don't want to do KYC, but we actually don't have any option anymore, maybe because of everything moving towards centralization?

I never wanted, but I've done KYC in polo, bittrex, binance etc because I had my coins/tokens there. I also sent angry looking selfie as like Loyce, this is the only option you have I guess.

If you want to get your coins, do the kyc. If your privacy datas are more important to you than the money. Let it go.
I personally been verified on bittrex, this exchange is already for long time there and i would say its proven as a non scam exchange.

This was also happened to me before, especially when I'm still a newbie in trading. My situation before is to transfer my bitcoins from Bittrex to Binance that was the time Binance is starting to make some noise.

I got surprised before when I am about to withdraw my funds and some of my documents are expired and some of them are not valid, I had no choice before and I immediately renew some of my documents just to able pass the KYC and withdraw my funds.

My advice is if you really value your funds there, withdraw your funds but you need to pass the KYC.

Once a company asks for KYC docs, they are not going to allow access to your money without you KYC verifying your account.

In today's day and age, I would not trust any business with any of my money that I would not be comfortable trusting KYC verifying my account with, and I would suggest others use the same criteria. If you would not trust a company with a copy of your passport, why would you trust them with your hard-earned money?

Same as others, I have an account there, several months of having no activity on the site, till logged in and just noticed that my account was disabled and needed for verification. As I have some hundred of $ there, I'm forced to verify my account, well, it just takes a month before it got verified, having not accepting the docs I have given and it s*cks, from those verification process that needed a video of you holding your ID and some paper indicating the current date with a bittrex word on it. And I guess there's some phrases I have to say as well? for the verification, can't remember it really.

As if you really needed those amounts, then verifying your account is only your choice, which I will do if it's a couple of bucks, or, just let it there.

Did Bittrex happen to send any warning emails regarding this? I don't recall receiving any such emails, I could be wrong tho.

Because the cost of one's identity weighs way more than a few hundred bucks. Crytpo was initially known for full fledged privacy (sort of) and that's one of the main reasons why I got into it. I care more about my privacy and identity in general than those few hundred bucks, because I can earn those bucks anytime I want, but there's other things in life other than money.

I'm still undecided about this, and would rather keep the account idle and disabled for some time until I get a firm head on this situation.

Crypto sometimes can allow you to prevent unrelated third parties from knowing your financial business. However in general if you are doing business with someone, you need to know who they are. I have done face to face deals with people in the past and I always knew their identity, but I would not know the details of their other transactions (except for those who are very bad with reusing addresses but that is another issue).

I am not saying you should trust someone with your identity just because you are trusting them with a few hundred dollars. I am saying you should not trust someone with a few hundred dollars if you are unwilling to trust them with your identity.

I don’t want to comment on if it is safe to trust bittrex with your identity docs or not because this is a decision you need to make based on your own research.

My thinking is completely identical regarding KYC, you can never know if that company plans to keep your information safe or sell it to someone who offers the most money. All of them claim they do not share / sell our data to anyone, but in reality we know it's not like that.

I will give you example which is related to my local currency exchange. After I make account there, maybe 7-10 day after that I started getting phone calls from some brokers asking me to invest in some stocks, and also spam on e-mail which I use for registration. The conclusion is that they sold my data very quickly after registration.

If you do not plan to use this exchange in the future, and you can live without a few hundred dollars stucked there, just forget and move on.

Bittrex and Poloniex abide by a Data Protection law. I'm not sure if this is applicable if it is, maybe you can use it? To verify your account and then to use the data protection act. You can request to Bittrex to delete your Personal Information (you may have better luck if you're from EU). Its privacy policy says:

Quote
Request access to your personal data.
Request correction of your personal data.
Request erasure of your personal data.
Object to processing of your personal data.
Request restriction of processing your personal data.
Request transfer of your personal data.
Right to withdraw consent.

Is your account fully blocked or only withdrawals? If you are able to trade you can try to transfer your coins via high spread coins to someone who performed KYC already. You will get only part of your funds but its more than nothing. I did that on UEX exchange where i had to do KYC to withdraw +100$ worth airdrop (Libra).

output =~ (1- ( fee x4)/Spread) * imput

For 10% spread and 0.25% fee it would be.
90$ = (1 - (1/10) )* 100$
