I created a wallet on or near december 31st 2018 with electrum. This was my first time using an electrum wallet and i wrote down everythin that looked important including the public key and the recovery passphrase. there is some bitcoin in the wallet now and im trying to recover it because the notebook crashed and wont start at all. So Ive borrowed a friends notebook which is running android. I was running windows before.
Ive read other threads concerning this issue but I'm not sure how to solve the problem. I'm absolutely sure there are only 12 words and that they are spelled correctly. I'm using the electrum wallet from the google play store downloaded as of today, may 18th. the next button is greyed out so I cant continue. the wallet still has the coins in them according to the public key lookup. Any help here?

make sure you select words not type them, sometimes you add extra space by mistake. best way is to go on PC and then do that, make sure you check spellings of each word you type on google, typos are common LIKE color -> colour

it is not safe to enter your seed elsewhere specially online ("on google" that you mentioned). Electrum (desktop version) has the option to show you a preview of the possible words as you type the first 3 letters of each word and that should be more than enough for spell check.

The Android Electrum wallet has it's own builtin keyboard that prevents you entering "non" BIP39 wordlist words... Once you type in the first character of a word, ONLY characters contained in BIP39 wordlist words are available to type and you have to select a word from the presented list: However, it is possible that the OP has simply got one of the BIP39 words incorrect... there are very similar words in the list... things like kit/kite, kid/kind, keep/keen etc

Thus, it's also possible that OP didn't write the word in sequence, perhaps might jumbled sequence of words.
This is why I don't save my passphrase in my laptop or anything online and just wrote it down in paper and made multiple copies. Hope you still recover your bitcoin.

Was the SEED created by Electrum through "Create a new SEED" option or the SEED was created through other tools like iancoleman.io and you used the "I already have a SEED" option to make a wallet using it? If it is the latter, you cannot use an Android version to restore your wallet because it doesn't support "real" BIP39 SEED.
Usually, people who want to create a SegWit "3" address using Electrum do that.

Hello,
I have this same problem.
I have the seed written down and saved and have entered it many times but the next button remains greyed out.
I have restored this wallet before so i am sure this is the seed phrase! some of the words in my phrase are in that big master list, but others arent. It was Electrum that generated the seed, i am using version 3.3.6
Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried selecting Options below the seed input box and checking BIP39 there? It shouldn't be required since you generated your wallet using Electrum but it's worth trying out. Alternatively, you can temporary downgrade Electrum if that doesn't work ( previous releases).

Thanks for your reply
I checked BIP39 and followed that through. It generated a wallet but the balance was 0.
I have retried with older version (3.03 which i think is what the wallet was originally generated with) and 3.01 but they wont get past the synchronising stage..
Thank you again.

Which wallet you currently using right now the Electrum mobile version or the PC version? Make sure that you are not using any VPN in your Android phone and if you are using PC version make sure that you download it to the correct website it should be https://electrum.orgIf you download it on different website URL it's a fake one beware.

This is of great concern: some of the words in my phrase are in that big master list, but others arent.
ALL of the words should be in the BIP39 wordlist... Electrum uses only words from this list to generate seeds... it is in the source code. So if you have words that aren't in that list, then you either copied them down incorrectly, or it wasn't generated by Electrum. I have retried with older version (3.03 which i think is what the wallet was originally generated with) and 3.01 but they wont get past the synchronising stage..
Did those older versions actually accept the words? Did it allow you to click "next"? If it did and it opened the wallet but was stuck on synchronising, then you should be able to simply open the created wallet file in the new version of Electrum and it should sync.

Thank you for your response.
This is what worries me, the words arent in there, but at no point did i opt to generate a seed elsewhere. What is this 12 word seed i have? Is it useful for anything? I am very sure i copied it down correctly, multiple times.
If it wasnt generated by Electrum does this simply mean i have lost access to that wallet?
The older versions accepted the words when i checked BIP39 but when i followed that process through (adding a password etc.) there was no balance in the wallet.
Thank you again

I uninstalled Electrum and plugged in a external hard drive that has the version of Electrum that the wallet was on before. When i plug that in and go to open the wallet it says "Failed to execute script Electrum"
Not sure if this means anything

Does that external hard drive also have a copy of the actual wallet file (not just a copy of the application) on it? If so, make a copy of the wallet file and then try and open that copy with the new version of Electrum.

No, some of them are not in there.
You did check both lists right? If yes then it's not an electrum seed.
