a. In East (or why dictators hate anonymous payments):
1- As a replacement for phone verification for social networks activists (the fact that a company HQ located in the free world doesn't mean you should trust it)
2- For running an online business like advertisement platform in dictatorships which hate citizens good life & real private sector (I can provide evidence for this claim)

b. In West:
Example 1: All caffeine detector strip manufacturers are closed (Real). maybe a group with power thinks psycho-stimulants are needed for the scientific progress. Consider a whistle-blower knowing something about that caffeine detectors companies closure reason.
Example 2: When your are an activist for prolonging life of part society which is considered useless  (for example ill persons which are not in a clinical trail), you are at danger of various government attack

I always have a significant issue when I'm trying to explain why privacy is vital, and why I'd rather have the people in the US have some degree of privacy rather than a government which acts like an invasive hacker group determined to find out if we're terrorists. I think this comes down to the fact that our lack of privacy is normalized, and anyone that doesn't want to give it up is looked at as an outcast and someone who must be doing something wrong.

Check out this quote below from PrivacyTools; this is an amazing one. It shows why privacy is necessary for ALL.

Over the last 16 months, as I've debated this issue around the world, every single time somebody has said to me, "I don't worry about invasions of privacy because I don't have anything to hide." I always say the same thing to them. I get out a pen; I write down my email address. I say, "Here's my email address. What I want you to do when you get home is email me the passwords to all of your email accounts, not just the nice, respectable work one in your name, but all of them, because I want to be able to just troll through what it is you're doing online, read what I want to read and publish whatever I find interesting. After all, if you're not a bad person, if you're doing nothing wrong, you should have nothing to hide." Not a single person has taken me up on that offer.

Also have a problem wording it correctly. That's a nice quote that I might try when I encounter someone that's pro-surveillance. I believe anything done in public is fair game but people should still maintain a degree of privacy.

If we don't want our parents coming into our rooms without knocking, why would we want a government who dgaf about our well-being watch us while taking a shower?

Well, the reason why having an anonymous payment method is really "no" for the governments is because it is actually a threat from their manipulation.

The governments were established to rule. So they will do their best to say being authorities. Having an anonymous payment method won't let them become an authority in each and everyone they are ruling with. Also, they are doing their best to at least protect their people by monitoring all the stuff for the good of everyone and their pockets.

Because people don't always want people snooping into their purchase history. If a grocery chain can predict life events simply from your purchase history, imagine what the government can do with that data and all the other information they have on you.

Soon we could be living in a Minority Report setting where government can just say they've predicted you'd do this and that from your actions and that they need to arrest you. We've already given the State too much power.

I'd like to point something out. Governments weren't established as a way to rule over people in the sense that they would be controlling every part of their lives. That was not the intention of the founding fathers in America, and they would be appalled to see what this country has done to our constitutionally given rights.

Governments are going to do what they want to do to ensure this tech isn't going to take off, though in my mind, cash is the best form of anonymous payment. With bitcoin, every single payment you make is on a public ledger and is VERY EASY to trace (if you fail at opsec, of course) cash isn't easy to trace as it can just move from hand to hand.

Ironically, the government is trying to point out the main reason of being strict to this is to minimize the case of money laundering. While on the upper hand most of the law makers from the government are doing the worse thing and that sucks.

The generations today are now seeking more of our privacy because I would rather used my personal information to the things I really needed and have willingly provided it rather than someone or somebody will be using it for their own benefits.

On the other hand tho, this is a global issue therefore other countries just follows the united laws that was created by those first class countries because they were too afraid that there might be a boycott of economic help when it comes to any crisis.

This is such a bullshit claim by the government, as money laundering could be done in a much simpler way with cash and fake businesses. Money laundering Crypto still requires someone to cash it out at some point -- which can all be tracked on a public ledger. I would doubt someone wants to go through all of the time, and the risk, of attempting to money launder with Crypto when the on-ramps and exit ramps (of fiat) are usually pretty easy to catch.

Who knows what the reasoning is though, as Bitcoin isn't hurting the dollar or being used instead of the dollar (or other fiat currencies) at this time.
