Try to contact local Police or Cyber police or FBI from here https://www.fbi.gov/investigate/cyber

I'm not sure if you can find the theft because here in crypto everything is anonymous.

I have already reported to the police and FBI. I'm looking for a private investigator now.

Out of curiosity, what are you hoping to accomplish?
recover the funds as you know is more or less impossible..
more money in the hole?
or are you suspecting someone close to you?

Just to find out any additional information. I'm well aware recovery of funds is all but impossible, but I would like to know who was involved in the theft. Even if I cant find out who specifically I think the right person could likely uncover more than I know now.

If you're hiring a private investigator to retrieve your wallets and to recover your funds, I think that would be hard especially if the hacker has transferred the funds in an anonymous wallet. $40,000 is such a huge amount. I hope you can still do something to track it.

I am unsure if the FBI will take the theft of $40,000 seriously, and the local police are often unequipped to handle this type of case. Perhaps if this hacker has stolen significant amounts from other people, he or she will be investigated. I'd investigate this through the blockchain, though that's not likely to be fruitful. Also, with that amount in cryptocurrency, it's a reminder to invest $60 for a hardware wallet.

FBI is incapable of tracking crypto transactions because if they're able to track this kind of hacking incidents, big exchanges should've done something to identify their hackers. I think there must be a crypto pro who could track transactions and who could catch hackers to solve the increasing number of hacking incidents.

It is an interesting question actually. Crypto thefts are very common while there is no-one you can ask help for. Even local-enforcement or fbi would probably no help. Maybe in the future, this can be a profession. But right now, you may end up scammed again with a random guy who claims he is one.

It’s only through a very good private investigator who specialized in recovering money and scam cases that can do this. I got scammed through a dating site, looked for different ways to get back my money both online, contacted most private investigators through their website online only to find out they weren’t specialized in recovering money until I came across ‘Adrian Gonzalez’ on quora. I had to sign up to view his profile and contacted him about my case. He is the only one who was able to recover my money, others I contacted couldn’t at all. I will advise anyone who has same issue with me to reach out to him for help. I wouldn’t want to call out the names of the ones I reached out to and wasn’t able to do nothing. Adrian Gonzalez is the best for recovering scammed money.

All you're likely to get is scammed again.

It is very likely that this would be the outcome, especially if that investigator would ask for advance payment. I would also advise the OP not to look for a classic investigator, but some capable hacker who might try to find some useful clue that would then help the police track down the thief. $40 000 is not a small amount of money, the question is how much more are you willing to spend on an investigation that has relatively little chance of success?

I assume you lost money on one of the crypto-exchanges, but since your phone is involved in the hack is that mean you are a victim of SIM swap?

They will first need a system that can do it. Somewhat like a bad hacker vs a good hacker idea. Their should be a solution to a problem created by that software and system. It's an online thing that are too wide to be analyzed and identify.

I think what you really need is not a private investigator but an IT Expert. Since you have reported the incident to the authorities, I guess you just need a hard evidence regarding your concern. An IT expert can trace who hacked your email and phone number. If the private investigator is also an IT Expert then I think that isnyour best choice.

Hmmm.
So it's New Years Day, and Jessica here decides to register on a Bitcoin forum, necro this thread and tell us how good "Adrian Gonzalez" is at recovering money (supposedly lost on a dating site, so probably not crypto anyway).
Hmmm.
There is indeed such an entity as him posting, seemingly soberly, on Quora and boasting a CV full of buzzwords.
As most people get ripped off in the first place by NOT doing their due diligence maybe now would be the time to start doing it, starting with Mr. Gonzalez impressive list of qualifications.
NEVER give anyone money upfront is a good credo.

There's the name. It might have been too late though OP must have move on after losing $40k.

He could have realized it not worth looking for the person who hacked his account because its all gone now and can't be recovered. Its was 7 months ago form the time he was hacked, OP must have invested to another coin by now or have once again bought some BTC.

You are likely going to spend huge sums of money on that. Why don't you move on and rather save the extra money on how to protect yourself and also get yourself some hardware wallets to use. I believe this is much important than trying to go on this wild goose chase which is likely going to yield no results.

Adrian found it again. I've had an erection since Christmas morning.

Thanks, Adrian.
