GPU Replacement fans

So, fans die every once in a while.  Other than EBay, where's a good place to find GPU replacement fans?  Preferably a place where the cost doesnt make it tempting to just buy a replacement card & sell the one with faulty fans for parts?

On most GPU's you can take off the plastic-fan-cover relativ easily (just find the screws). Buy 2 or 3 of these 92mm fans and attach them with cheap and simple cable ties. Connect them with max speed directly to your PSU. On some cards you can connect fans directly to the GPU, so you can change the fan-speed with your preferred software.

The Noctua's are the best quality with lowest possible noise but still insane airpressure. If you want to save some bucks and if you have some time, go with the FM93. Often they are just 7-8 Euros each. Dont buy them if they are back to 15-17 Euros again. Then go with the better Noctua's.

You can try aliexpress. I ordered several items (not GPU fan but other laptop parts and other items not available in my country) there and didn't have any issue with the items, delivery is also prompt (usually earlier than promised).

And in my own experience, it delivers better cooling than the stock fans (at least for my cheap brand GPUs).@Harai Goshi Though I'm puzzled with your "fan cost problem", maybe you're talking about the whole HeatSink (Metal Part under the fan) and Fan for the GPU?
The fan alone should be cheap ($20±) and wont cost you more than a quarter of the whole GPU.

I second the recommendation of Aliexpress, if you look at the Ad closely and make sure its the same model # as you need, it will most likely come from the same manufacturer as OEM.

Yeeeeah - depends on the GPU. I had a load of XFX RX 470s. New fan on feebay was £20. 2nd hand XFX card goes for £50-60. As the man says, better to sell the parts and just buy another card in that case.

But to the OP, as folks have said, get any decent PC fan and cable tie it to the gpu, connect to molex/sys fan so it runs flat out. It'll do the job for pennies. Obvs check temps once you start mining to make sure the fan has enough cfm and pressure to do the job...

If you can specify your country/city etc., I think you could get more help on this and you can get your replacement parts quickly.

Except you are an expert computer Engineer yourself, if not I would advice you take to a certified Engineer so your system fan gets fixed and a good Engineer will recommend one for you and you can find it in your local market, Ignore most of these online recommendations, especially aliexpress, you may not get quality product for you computer

When you think about it, the fan is just there to get the heat off the card and a regular fan can do that. Just need to keep tabs on the temperature since it isn't as precise.

I prefer sapphire gpus , good cooler and great fans...  Also just one screw to change fans, i bought a shit ton of extra rx 470 fans while they were 9 €  a pop...
Have not had to change any fans yet but they will come in handy..

Xfx fans the  hardswap ones you can find for maybe 11 dollars a piece  at aliexpress.  so there are alternatives out there.

It is easy enough to repair damaged fans. Usually, the lubricant in the bearing connecting moving blades in the fans to the stationary stator becomes dirty and dry. This problem can be quite easily resolved after carefully removing the fan blades. This should be done by applying little lifting force upwards from opposite sides of the lower part of the blades. You need to be very careful not to break the blades and not to damage the rotor and its electronics. You can hook the blades from the bottom with two flat screwdrivers, but you need to pay attention not to damage the electronic components of the fan. After this you have to clean the area and put new lubricant.
Also I'd recommend you to put miniature bearings MR52 ZZ 2x5x2.5mm instead of sliding bearing.

Pretty much most posts here are spot on.

If money isn't an issue just buy a replacement fan on Aliexpress. However you might have to do this multiple times and can become costly especially when mining is not that profitable such as now.

You can take off the fans and put in a case fan or two with a zip tie and run on 100% fan speed. They won't overhear but will take up more room

Last method is to lubericate the fan itself. Depending on fan type you can pull the fan blade and lubricate the bearing or if you got a more heavy duty fan you will need to drill a hole in the back of fan and apply oil and reseal, cheapest method and usually always works for the next few months.

I know its kinda doin someone dirty but if it still works fine, and is just not profitable to mine on anymore, you can still sell it at a huge discount to someone who normally couldn't afford to have such a nice GPU for gaming. Even if the lifespan is not going to match up to their expectations, they will figure out thats why it was cheaper than the rest of the same cards in the area.

In the past I've sold many GPUs second hand and most of them went to gamers or people doing video rendering work. You would be surprised but many people will not know how to switch the fans on a GPU.

For some retail gamers, when a GPU fan dies, they generally stop using the card and buy another GPU.

So if you make an ad and state that a fan needs to be replaced, you will have a hard time selling the GPU since most people don't have the experience for that job.

Is there are site that is selling GPU's with defective fans?
Most of the time, the problem with GPU going slow is similar to CPU (thermal paste caked and defective fan). I'd like to experiment in setting up a rig using parts from GPU's with defective fans and repair them. That may significantly lower the cost of the rig resulting to better profit.

I just zip tie a case fan to the gpu.

I use gears blaster fans.

Gear runs cooler then with stock fans.

I would recommend buy case 12mm 2000 rpm fans and place on it instead, better than the fans that came in and cheaper. $2 to $4 , original or similar fans are around 30 to 70 usd.
