Bernardo Silva got the MVP for the UEFA Nations League, so even with his 3 goals in the semi-finals Ronaldo wasn't picked as the best player of the tournament. I doubt he is a favourite to win the Ballon D'or. It will probably be Messi or van Dijk. Messi will be the favourite if he manages to carry Argentina to glory in the Copa America. Mo Salah has been injured for a while and I don't see him getting the award.

I agree.
Haven't thought of Bernardo Silva actually. He had a hell of a season and could be top 10... but he's not recognized enough to be a contender.
As of now, my top 5 would be :
1 Messi
2 Van Dijk
3 Ronaldo
4 Mbappe
5 Mane or maybe Salah
of all these names I only chose 3 strong candidates:
1. M. False
2. Van Dijk
3. Messi

I'm a Ronaldo fan but this season Messi has been so impressive by scoring a lot of goals in the Spanish league and also in the Champions League.

Hmm, this is difficult question. Let's see my list:
- Ronaldo
- Messi
- Neymar
Failed at UCL and WC so a big no.

- van Dijk, potential UCL winner
A defender.

- Modric, WC runner up
- Hazard, WC 3rd pos, good EPL stats
No trophies

- Mbappe, WC & Ligue 1 winner, Ligue 1 top goalscorer
- Salah, EPL top goalscorer & potential UCL winner
So between these two strikers, I would recommend Mbappe Smiley
Good analysis, based on this am actually thinking the Egyptian Pharaoh is more liked than Mbappe which is the winning factor and besides the English league has a much larger audience than ligue 1 which if tabled well gives Salah a huge advantage.
Am just hoping we don't go back to the Ronaldo, Messi pool when we have lots of great talent all around the world that deserve this trophy at the point. Who better to receive the Ballon Dor than Salah.

The Champions League is almost over, the interesting thing to talk about next is Who will get the Ballon D'or trophy? We know before that the strong candidates for the title are Lionel Messi & De Jong because the Barcelona and Ajax teams have the chance to win Trible but now Barcelona & Ajax are not competing in the UCL Finals. Who do you think the decent players will get the best player title?
I really appreciate de Jong's performance in the Champions league, he can bring Ajax to the semifinals, and that is already very good in my opinion, seeing the material of ajax players is not as good as other teams. but it was too early for De jong to win the Ballon d'or, many other players were more deserving of it. If Mo Salah can bring Liverpool win the champions league, he is be the best candidates for , me, they have top score at Premiere League, managed to bring Liverpool win champions, who else more better than him?
Yes, this season De Jong brought Ajax to win 2 domestic trophies. He is indeed one of the strong candidates to get the Ballon D'Or if Mane or Mo Salah failed to win the Champions League this year.
I used to think salah should have been the winner but we have seen them lose to barcelona 3-0 with salah on the pitch and than we saw them beat barcelona and eliminate them 4-0 when salah was off the team because of his injury. Don't get me wrong salah is a great player but it wasn't like messi barcelona deal or ronaldo madrid deal, without salah liverpool is still a decent team, maybe wouldn't be able to get the cup but still would be an alright team. So somebody else should win it this year.

Even though people are still looking beyond Ronaldo and Messi because they got eliminated and trying to find people who were in the finals of champions league I think we can still assume they had a very worthy season.

Ronaldo went to Juventus at his age (lets face it, he is aging) and still made that team a Serie A champions and went as far as what quarter finals? That is still a decent achievement considering there were few people on his team that could have done that and it was mostly Ronaldos achievement himself.

players in the world's most popular leagues such as Premiere League are strong candidates for the ballon D'Or. the selection of Ballon D'Or winners is based on voting from important people in football throughout the world.

Some see Champions League as the biggest factor in winning the Ballon D'or. It's also funny they include Messi in the conversation because Barcelona won La Liga and forget about Ronaldo who also won in Serie A with Juve. They discount the fact that Ronaldo also won an international trophy with Portugal, something Messi hasn't achieved yet.

yes indeed in the criteria of winning the Ballon D'Or is not chosen simply because how many in 1 season he won the trophy but based on the individual abilities of players such as how many assists, goals, passages and the like. The Ballon D'Or is an individual award so this will be seen from the statistics record of each player. But, indeed in this season there are still players who are statistically better than Messi & Ronaldo.

The UCL title is only one of the judgments, the Ballon D'Or is an individual award, so anyone if he is statistically very good then he deserves to be a candidate including Messi & Ronaldo even though I don't support both of them.

But, indeed in this season there are still players who are statistically better than Messi & Ronaldo.

Can you name a single player who was better than Messi statistically?

First I want to clear that Ballon d'Or isn't given for Football season. It is rather awarded as per calendar year. So the period under consideration will be Dec 2018 to Nov 2019.
Mbappe was superb last year which earned him a spot in top 5 last year. But this year he is pretty average so far. He won't even make to top 5 this year. Then who? Well let's see.
1. Van Dijk: Ballon d'Or is awarded as per weighted average of total scores from different judges. Now here comes the personal judgement of different judges. Some prefer individual performance while some give more importance to team performance. Van Dijk is most successful team performer. However, individually I think he's too overrated. Many defenders had better seasons than him in past but weren't even considered in Top 10.

2. Ronaldo: No! Not his best season. Not even one of his top 5 seasons. Even failed to win Copa Italia. Juventus was winning Series A from last 8 seasons. Nations League is not a worthy trophy to be considered. Statistically he wasn't top scorer in both Series A and UCL. He may make to top 5 but not top 3 this year.

3. Messi: Statistically the best player this year so far and most probably will end as the best player. However, Barcelona had worse season than last. Failed to win Copa Del Rey. But his individual brilliance is enough to rank him among top 2. However, winning copa America can assure his title.

4. Others: Raheem Sterling can be surprise entry in top 5 or even top 3. His team had best domestic season in whole Europe. He's been most instrumental among all his teammates. Hazard also had brilliant season but Europa League winner getting ballon d'or would be disgrace for award. Salah wasn't the best player in Liverpool this season. I prefer Mane over him for top 5.

So my top 5 in no order are: Messi, Van Dijk, Raheem Sterling, Sadio Mane, Hazard/Ronaldo.

forget about Ronaldo and Messi they have no chance this time. FIFA Ballon d'Or this time will nominees with a new name. it's time for a new generation, I will recommend Moh Salah as FIFA best player this year. there was not much achievement he could give to team or nation other than winning UCL but this player was phenomenal and deserved to be chosen.

Uuhm… It's probably going to be anyone from the next two teams that are going to play the final match. Some. People are saying it's going to be Salah, but I think there is another competition which is Mbappe, he's been doing very well this year. But we don't know yet. Anyone of them that gets the trophy truly deserves it for sure cause they have worked very hard this year to get to where they are today.

And by the way, as for Messi and C Ronaldo, they have done it a lot, so maybe it's time they give way for others to be recognized as well. Lol. But like I said, I don't support anyone in particular, cause they all work hard and they all deserve to be rewarded with a trophy.

It’s got to be Van Dijk, he was an absolute rock all season which ended in LFC being Champions of Europe.
Some people say Mbappe but PSG flopped in the CL (as usual), Mbappe didn’t have a big impact.
The French league is crap too so you can’t make an argument for anybody doing well there.
You could say Messi, as usual he was great in La Liga but where was he when it counted in the CL at Anfield - 4-0.

My prediction -

1.) Van Dijk
2.) Messi
3.) Mbappe
