[Advice] Keep Records of Telegram Chats

If anyone from Bitcointalk starts a conversation through Telegram for anything important should keep a record of that conversation before it's too late.

Maybe any kind of business deals are considered to be important or anything else you consider important and it may require proof later.

I don't know yet how, but at some point, the conversation is no longer available. Maybe the other person clears the chat history and it gets unavailable to you also.

You can screen-cast the entire conversation if you want to. This way you will not lose any piece of information. OBS software is a good tool for screen-cast.

Imo, screen recording is the best way to safe keep a chat, especially as a screenshot (or cast) can be easily edited and manipulated or created from nothing.

Even a video recording can be  faked, showing telegram proof is almost pointless unless you know someone that works for telegram that has access to their chat logs.  On bitcointalk you can actually verify what a pm said by reporting it.

Telegram has added another privacy feature. It allows anyone to delete conversations on both ends. Even forwarding messages from private chats may no longer be traced to the sender. Perhaps archiving some or all the conversations would work?.

I'd prefer not to use Telegram to close business deals, except maybe for an employee/employer that I already know of or trusted.

Agreed,when we are doing some kind of business with the person from bitcointalk then it is better to use PM option in our forum which is the thing cannot be faked and also can be verfied by the most trusted person if there is an need of proof of that conversation.

But scammers can be easily found when we continue our chat and asking more questions related to their business so don't fall for scams guys.

I would suggest to make transactions in other platforms than telegram.   Telegram allows the user to change his/her name and even copy the name of other people.  If you want to make large transaction with someone, better ask for personal details (facebook is a good choice) for you to be sure that you are transacting with a legit buyer/seller and not a scammer.

Since March 25, 2019, Telegram added a feature that makes it easier for users to delete any message they've ever sent — or any message they've ever received.
The service announced that users can delete messages from both individual conversations and group chats. Deleting a message will delete it from the record for every user in the chat, not just the person who deletes it.

The conversation is saved on the browser chache so should it be impossible to remove it if you don't remove it.

I think If you are serious in business then you should maintain log in forum .(if  you do not want to divulge the detail of deal then just post that you are dealing with other user without giving specifics.)
For closing the deal just ask the signed message (impersonation is also a big problem now.) Any third party tool in which you are not able to identify properly/not able to store proof should be avoided.

Yes, it is the best idea to have a back up copy of everything that may come in handy if you ever face a problem. You want to buy and someone pm you saying that he sell and he did provide some information of himself or account names then later on you got fooled or it's a fraud then you want to report that guy and because you have a back up of the conversation then you'll have a strong evidence or retrieving accounts for example.

Someone could also decide to start a secret chat with you which is a feature which does not allow you to take screenshots of the chat logs between you and that individual.
So i think the best thing to do is if what you are about to communicate is very important then i guess much more official means like email could be the way to go.

Yes, I totally forgot about that. It's true that you can't take screenshots and the conversation won't also be saved. So, I think that's the problem then but I also think you can have a back up by recording your conversation with that person i'm sure you still have to show proof if it's needed.

Telegram is just turned to a scamming friendly app for now as there is no dedicated feature to secure any conversation. It has just taken itself to an unwanted height of privacy and security where normal users just can't secure himself from scammers or at least record the proofs of a scam attempt. There is also no trace back to the anonymous user as the account is only bound to the username which is very easy to change in a telegram. There is also an identity problem which arises due to the username issue, anyone can fake other person and transact under other reputed names and its just another shady fraud tactic overall.

The best alternative to this would be just keeping your useful conversations to be limited to email or something like this forum, where at least the sender could not manipulate the content and get out of the fraud and accusations very easily. Although, I could also say that telegram in a good messaging tool in some aspects if you know how to take benefits of some of its unique features.
