Hi All,

This is something that I have been thinking about it for quite sometime and wanted to discuss this with other forum members and get their ideas. As a collector of Gold/Silver/Currency for a very long time, there has been some occasions when I needed the funds urgently for personal matters didn't have anything else to turn to but to sell some of my collectibles or just regular bullion items, to do so the easiest and fastest way to do is just drive to a couple of different local coin shops and sell your stuff and you have the funds that you need. Well in certain cases the dealers are nice enough to give u an option to sell back your stuff within certain time period and little bit of premium of the sell price, other's do give other options for the buy backs if u are really interested.

Well recently I was in the same situation, needed some funds but it's almost impossible to move the high priced items almost immediately, thankfully I am out of that situation but it got me thinking about setting up something for the forum members where if and when someone need funds immediately they can sell their items to this escrow/dealer/bulk buying service or whatever you would like to call it. The main idea is basically to help someone with bulk selling or liquidating their inventory at the decent price unlike some members who would offer upto 40-50% of the recent sale prices and try to take advantage of people in need. I know there are members like MJ and few others who would help fellow collectors in a heart beat but in certain cases they also have their limits or the interest in certain area of products where they wouldn't wanna have too much of anything.

I know it's not gonna be easy and nor it's gonna be straight forward, but it will give an option for the needful to turn to someone incase of emergencies.

I know i can personally provide the support to people in USD if they need at times but we will prob need few other members to create a small group who can get together to provide the support in terms of liquidity and legitimacy to this group and at the same time share the risk of buying bulk products by the group instead of one individual.

Not sure what everyone thinks but I wanted to bring it to other members and get their suggestions

I am not very good at expressing things in writing but I hope people will get what I am trying to propose here. Hopefully we'll have a constructive discussion over this.

There are some people here that have Lending service. Have not seen with coins but maybe.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=65.0
DarkStar_ etc have a system for risk management.

edit:
But sending the high value coins around maybe not the best. Could get lost etc.

I have seen few of these around for lending, but if someone is buying bitcoins in-exchange for something(maybe be increase the worth by trading or further investing), I personally wouldn't call it emergency. I would rather help someone who needs the fiat to pay off loans for family emergency or something similar.. I know we all love and believe in Bitcoin but the reality is that to payoff the bills we still need the fiat in the most cases for the daily life transactions.

Maybe a lending service which accepted physical crypto collectables as collateral?

I can lend against crypto collectables if needed/wanted or even without collateral depending on the person and amount. I can't help with USD though

Do you mean money lending while holding the coin for repayment or just a straight up buyer of things sold here with guaranteed prices attached (which would probably be lower than market value).  Interesting though that dark star chimed in and accepts coins as collateral.  Did not know anyone regularly would do this.

and logistically, this sounds like a nightmare....

Very true from what MJ and Wheelz of what they both suggested, certain items in someones perspective might worth 1BTC and others 5BTC. We recently saw that incase of the https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5134423.0

I guess time will tell what DarkStar is looking as collateral or even paying for certain items as the market more matures.

I see too many issues with mail service, values, liability, and so many more.  If someone needs some help, help them but, do it with the idea you will never be paid back.  This is just the way I have done things, probably won't work for many.

for international shipments it is complicated to do that since customs has really high taxes
But it is a good initiative the market of collectibles is constantly increasing.  Smiley

It does.  It's a great premise but people will ultimately use the lending service as a way to sell coins if the service provides market valuation and will be left with coins they might not want.

I think than the lender would want to want to own those coins for it to work.

For example. I would love to lend some btc for some satori chips (valued at $22.5 a piece) I would pray that the lender defaulted. That would put a roll valued at 625. Its just slightly under market in my eyes correct me if I am wrong.

But if a lender values a lendees items at 10% under market price. I think that is fair if the lender wants to buy the items
