In my opinion, Bitblender really gave much low time for withdrawals before they completely shut down.

Within this short time, I don't think all the users of Bitblender will get notified about this. Maybe we will see some complaints in the future.  Roll Eyes

Btw, thanks for your effort bud.

The fact that the owner is giving any advance notice of closing down the site is good, considering the owner could've easily just closed down shop and taken everybody's funds. I'm glad blender isn't doing that, but there's obviously going to be people that don't get their money out in time. Hopefully no significant amount of funds are left on the site before it closes down.

Still a good reminder that you should always keep funds in storage in a place where you control the private keys, though.

Why would anyone keep a bean on a mixing service for more than a few minutes? Anything other than in - out - gone is nuts.

Kudos to OP for badgering.

This could be the reason

It's only 3 days ago Bitblender announced about the close, maybe there are some other cases as like the mentioned link.

TBH, I really don't know how mixer platforms work as I haven't used any platforms. My previous post was on the basis of the link I mentioned here.

Everything was done hurriedly perhaps to avoid being the next victims.
I have a feeling that the owner of Bitblender knew they were also being targeted somehow after the seizure of Bitmixer.io

So everything was done on short notice. If bitblender had really wanted to close of their business for other reasons. I don't think we would have been seeing their signature campaign here up to the very last day and a very abrupt announcement about the closure.

Oh no, no, that wouldn't happen in any way. Owner doesn't want to be under someone's attention, that's why he lets everyone to withdraw money and close website as soon as possible. After all, it's very sad fact that another legendary mixer, bitblender is going down, loved this website because of their style and long story on this forum.
Will be very curious if bitmixer and bitblender owners unite together, just a little inagination and fun from me.

Only a few hours to withdraw are not enough for many users.

Kudos to OP for badgering.

There are privacy considerations. The longer you wait to withdraw, the less likely you are to be linked to your original deposit re: blockchain analysis. Chipmixer has discussed this before:

Quote
When you withdraw a chip, you receive a copy of private key encrypted on the mixer's server. You are free to sweep it yourself, ask us to send it to your address or keep it on chip for a while. Only the last option keeps your funds vunerable to our dishonesty, but it also extends your privacy. If you sweep funds from chip in first 12h after your input, you receive same privacy as you would get from standard mixer. If you trust us (as you already did when you sent coins into mixer) and spend chip when you need it, then you achieve maximum privacy you can get.

Aside from that, I've known people who used darknet market accounts as wallets, too. I also made the same mistake with exchange accounts in my earlier days. In my experience, people like to store coins on whatever third party services they normally use (out of convenience) until it comes back to bite them once or twice. Then they learn their lesson.

But they could just open it back up for a few days and only allow withdrawals, right? Opening up just for a few hours would definitely mess some people up. I don't know though, the owner is probably rightfully paranoid.

Definitely they can. Maybe they might have be tipped of been under investigation lets not forget bestmixer was under a year long investigation but no one knew. If they feel threating their decision is justifiable. This is like the bear market for mixers now we'll know those mixer inwhich our privacy is truely anonymous.

I think one could argue that this is just scummy behaviour. Bitblender has been online for years, you really think a couple days will make a difference?
He's storing god knows how many user funds on his website, why is everyone so hellbent to give him a pass regarding this?

This just looks to me like he's trying to exit scam and run off with the funds of his customers... under the guise of "paranoia"...?
(I don't think anyone knows the identity behind the operators of bitblender, so i guess if they wanted to exit-scam they would've already done so, -- still, i don't think this was the right way for them to handle this.)

I am dubious in terms of this. Why they are so rushed? whether they know something they did not tell us?

You seem to know a lot of things going on about the mixing companies shut down and the causes. Could you explain what you mean by "so is stealing funds from your customers"?

You're right but they have shut down a couple of days back before they open the site for few hours because of this guy and some people who are yet to move their coins but I wonder why someone would ever think not to talk of keeping his coins on tumbler site.

I just pointed out that it's quite disrespectful to close your site down while some of your customers have no idea what's happening and are losing tremendous amounts of funds because of it. whether that's done on purpose or not, it's still something that's not to be taken lightly.

saving your own skin at the expense of your customers is something i could understand, but that doesn't make it right.
hence the "It's no joke either to block your customers from accessing their funds/stealing from them" comment.

He stayed up for 48 hours after announcing he was shutting down. And after that, opened for a few more hours to give people a second chance to withdraw.

I’m not trying to defend him, but if he got scared by BestMixer’s shutdown and wants to clean house ASAP, he won’t waste any time to wipe everything that can link him to the mixer. People shouldn’t be using them as a wallet anyways (simple fact). And the whole process can be done in a day (send, mix, withdrawal). So, why should he spend a whole week or month waiting for people when as far as he know the police may come busting his door at any moment?

I don’t think 2 days was enough either (it should be, but people are stubborn). But I understand why they would do that, and I really don’t think they are doing that on purpose to “exit scam” with the paranoid card.

2 days + several hours is nowhere near enough. Especially considering how (as mentioned above) there are privacy benefits in waiting instead of spending the mixed coins immediately. Most businesses also give their users months of time to withdraw their money. Bestmixer was also more explicit than Bitblender in saying how their service can be used to (potentially) launder money.

https://securingtomorrow.mcafee.com/other-blogs/mcafee-labs/crypto-currency-laundering-service-bestmixer-io-taken-down-by-law-enforcement/

If Bitblender's OPSEC had some lapses (and if they had actually broken the law which I'm not so sure about), then it's on them to fix their shit and return the money they owe. If they needed to take a break before relaunching the site where people can withdraw what they are owed, I think that would be reasonable. But what they're doing now looks more like an exit scam.

I mean, being online for a few more days is definitely a lot better than only an additional few hours, so.. I'd take the few more days. Also, I don't think it's just that people are "giving him a pass". Not saying that his intentions aren't to run away with the money, but there's also just that good probability that the dude is just trying to bail asap to not be potentially prosecuted or something. But then again, I have no idea. We can really only speculate for now.

But people should be happy the site gives some time before. He could just have closed the site and never log in again here. And keep the bitcoins that were not transferred out. Doesn't mean he wanted to leave with your coins but in his shoes maybe you would have disappeared without any message.

He gave people a couple days to withdraw, and then brought the servers online again a day or so later so the laggards could get their coins. For an exit scam, that's extremely generous.

We don't know how his site was set up. Maybe he is right to be paranoid.

At the end of the day, there are good reasons why we always tell people not to store coins with third parties. That risk is especially true with services that may be targeted by governments.
