Everyone who visits this board is probably noticed that this board is become flooded with articles from mostly two sources. Actually, some members are paid to post as much as possible, and by this they turned this board to their spam place. It is not only about users who have signature, but also professionals who post links for extra money.

This user has recently admitted that he is no long work for one source, but he switch to another company. In time he do that, another account has appeared and continue to work for his previous source. Very likely it is just his alt account.

I'm no longer work for Coinidol if you're interested. My account is not "coinidol account", but my own.

If we look just in 2 pages of Press board, from around 80 threads, 46 is posted by only 3 users. I think that's too much and that some limitations should be introduced there. One thread per user / per day would be quite a logical solution.

the idea is not bad but i think useless.
as it is easy to create additional accounts and then post this with them

Limiting the number of threads created by a user is useless since if he or she is paid by that website he could easily create multiple new accounts just to share the links of their news article. What would be more effective is limiting the articles from that website itself being shared from the press board. Since for Press board readers I think we always see news being sourced from coinidol, cointelegraph, ccn, and bitcoinmagazine which I think we can all agree are not primary sources for news, after all they are all just recycling news from one another.

People got paid to share news/article from news media? I was sure it's clever way to fulfill their signature campaign rules.

But it's pretty much useless idea without limitation such as only Member/Copper Member and above who can make thread on Press board.
If there are restrictions on which ranks are able to create threads in Press Board, I think restrictions should restrict only Full Member and above, that will reduce new threads created significantly. However, it somehow violates core approach of theymos, that he has not had plans to implement more restrictions or barriers on lower rank users, he might change in the future but for now he has not had such plans.
Another idea (that likely stupid too), is requiring small 'fee' to create threads. Each month, each user will have a quota to create threads on the most spamming boards/ childboards, for example 10 threads per month. Then, if a user hit the quota, he or she has to pay additional fees for each thread created, since the 11th thread each month. It is nearly the same suggestion on restricted all bounties have to pay in BTC to reduce bounties from scam projects.

Its the press section of this forum, I see no problem with people starting daily threads as long as it doesnt flood other parts of this forum.
Just my 2 cents if you dont want to read a specific kind of press to your liking, just avoid it all together.
Simple as that

I know that is very easy to create new accounts and continue with spam, but such accounts can very easily be banned if other users report them, and after a while the situation will certainly be improved. This is not about users who spam there because of their signature, but for users who work for certain news sites and they get pay for posting site links. It would be impossible to carry out such activities if you need to create new account every day.

Simple rule for that board which can be added is : One user is allowed to post one thread per day in this board

This may not solve the problem completely, but will certainly improve the situation to some extent. The worst option is to do nothing.

This is a very nice suggestion.

With good supports from the spambuster club topic, lots of spam accounts nuked or banned (mostly nuked); and with recent ban wave (from unknown plagiabot) more accounts banned, most of them from low ranks. Honestly, I even saw the forum improved considerably before the banwave, and with the banwave started in April, the forum looks cleaner. One more restriction on spammers if they have to create new account, and start from zero is limited time between two continuous posts. That will somehow reduce spam. Spammers don't give up, but they will become less actively spam.
It would be impossible to carry out such activities if you need to create new account every day.

I'm still of the opinion that that sub should be locked/archived. So are seemingly most of the staff last time we discussed it. It should be for notable sources, but it's been spammed with everything and everything for the past few years, not to mention all the alt coin spam which don't even belong there. It's also being abused by various websites as a promotional tool just to drive hits to their site. Any worthwhile article can just be posted and discussed in bitcoin discussion as they do anyway so losing it isn't really a big issue to me. When it was created any mention of bitcoin in the media was probably a big deal, but now it isn't. At a bare minimum we should change what can and can't be posted there and any bitcoin-related site should be prohibited and enforce the notable source rule more strictly to stop the promo spam.

People got paid to share news/article from news media? I was sure it's clever way to fulfill their signature campaign rules.

But it's pretty much useless idea without limitation such as only Member/Copper Member and above who can make thread on Press board.

It's abused both by sig spammers and the people who run the websites. Some people in the past have even used bots just to scrape sites, format them properly then post them there. It's a place where you can legally get away with copy and pasting because doing so isn't against the rules and for sig spammers they can grab an easy post without having to contribute anything.

I wouldn't term it useless( limiting the numbers of threads to be created by users on the board) becasue that will actually curb alot of spams from the board. Also, to get the board cleaner, there should be a limitation to ranks that should create thread or threads on the board, as this will equally help it decency. Member rank and above should be giving the right to the board, also, there should be strict rules that can help to keep it clean too, because spammers are spammers irrespective of the ranks.

So what term are you looking for then? Like I said this website promoters won't stop at anything not until they stop receiving payments from them even if your rank-restrict the thread creation (which would highly be unlikely) will not stop them from obtaining high ranking accounts just to promote the website. Why would you even go as far as restricting the rank from creating threads in the press board? It would be extremely unfair for users who aren't affiliated to these websites and just want to share news they found worthy in sharing to the forum.

So this is the reason why I keep seeing news articles here and in other forums from that website. How about temporarily banning the site instead? Can it be done?

Sure, it can be done, imo. What theymos did with Yobit campaign gives us a good example, but it requires manually handlings from so many components in the forum. From users whom report such things, from moderators whom collected community reports and make a summary report to admins. Then, only if theymos has time to code something, those sites' advertisements in the forum will be disabled. Such things can not be done by only theymos, or any of us.
I don't know that the topic and Yobit case will result in new official rule of the forum, on the ban-period of signature and hyperlinks of sites violate promotion rules.

Yes, it has a lot of copied and paste articles in that section but I am not really sure if it all flooded with threads. Those threads are created for more than a week and since the posts are design from press then it is all expected that posts in that section related to press and copied and pastes articles.

It is only about 2 users who spam that board constantly by promoting two sites, and few others just use this board for sig spaming. So forum only need to handle with 2 users, and intruduce new rule on that board, problem solved. If they continue to work with new accounts, they will be reported and banned in a matter of a few days.

I think that could be a better solution then to close that board, especially if it is just about few users that in some way abuse forum because of its private interests.
