Since price started to climb lately, a lot of people start thinking about mining.

For that reason I decided to put a short and simple calculation regarding mining profitability in case you have a laptop/PC with better GPU like 1050Ti or 1070Ti. Those 2 graphic cards are in all newer gaming laptops and PCs. Just to mention-it is not recommended to use those for 24h/7days a week mining.

So, here is a simple view for 2 coins that are in top5 at the moment: ETH and RVN.

1050Ti

1.ETH

Electricity cost 0.15$/kW

ETH earnings: 0.04$/day (when electricity costs considered)

0.001 ETH coins/daily

2. RVN

Electricity cost 0.15$/kW

ETH earnings: 0.02$/day (when electricity costs considered)

4.1 RVN coins/daily

1070Ti

1.ETH

Electricity cost 0.15$/kW

ETH earnings: 0.17$/day (when electricity costs considered)

0.0022 ETH coins/daily

2. RVN

Electricity cost 0.15$/kW

RVN earnings: 0.35$/day (when electricity costs considered)

11.5 RVN/ daily

In case you decide to hold 1 year, and current price doubles, here is rough estimation:

GPU                             1050Ti             1050Ti        1070Ti         1070Ti

Coin                             ETH                 RVN            ETH             RVN

Coins/year                    0.3                  1400           0.73            4000

$/year                         162$                168$           390$           480$

I considered these prices in 1 year:

Price ETH : 540$

Price RVN: 0.12

Let me start with saying I love mining, I used to mine ETH back in 2017 with a 6x gtx 1060 rig... it was fun and profitable.

I was checking your post and I believe it is worth to mention about costs for those that don't have equipment yet and are thinking about invest some money in buying/building a mining computer or rig. Let me do a small exercise for ETH mining, using the same estimated value of $540 in a year.

GPU   1050Ti      1070Ti
Price USD
160.00
380.00
$/year
162.00
390.00
Profit
2.00
10.00

In that period, roughly covers the cost of the GPU, so profit should come over the second year; this is without considering the rest of the equipment cost: motherboard, power supply, CPU, etc.

Now, let's also consider, if instead of buying a GPU, one buys ETH directly right now, and again using the same estimated value in a year of $540 and current price of $250.

Investment USD   160.00      380.00
ETH
0.64
1.53
Future Value USD
345.60
826.2
Profit
185.60
446.20

So, just as a complement to your post, so everyone who does not have equipment put in consideration. Those who already have it, while not using it, put some hours a day to mine and get some coins.

BTC Its almost a wash. ETH Needs to be $1000 to be worth it. You always can mine and hold. Maybe mine and trade for BTC

In case you decide to hold 1 year, and current price doubles, here is rough estimation:

The list is more than confusing since you wrote in a number of places ETH instead of RVN.

Then, as said, investing into mining just in the moment the market starts to rise is a bad business. Especially as the expected income is far from great and even you subtly suggest holding.
Why not buy and hold? The investment can be smaller than the one for hardware (the ones wanting to enter mining may not have more than maybe 1 GPU) and there's no stress about ROI.

Sometimes its almost like reading comprehension doesn't exist on this board  Roll Eyes

OP clearly stated:  "For that reason I decided to put a short and simple calculation regarding mining profitability in case you have a laptop/PC with better GPU like 1050Ti or 1070Ti."

He is NOT suggesting you buy a GPU or build a rig, he just created this post in case you might already have one of these cards.  This is one of the more informative newbie posts I've seen in the last year!

To the OP:

Right on! Time is now to make a little coin.

Don't focus only on RVN and ETH this is not the only coins you can mine with GPU there are many coins have serious projects I suggest you look at the Zcoin.

Other coins like bitcoin gold and AEternity.

And what I notice that your electricity rate is high 0.16$/kWh if you are living on a cheaper rate it will be made more profit.

I would like to share this https://whattomine.com/ so that you can calculate your daily profit and coins. It is not accurate but it will give you an estimation.

Don't attempt to mine with a laptop it's a waste of time and money if you do that better buy a GPU and build your own rig.

It's bad business to calculate future expected price gains.

If price does go up difficulty will rise and you will get less coins.

If you calculate future expected price gains you also got to calculate miss opportunity cost if you would have just bought the coins from the beginning.

To the newbs out there. Mining is Not a money printing machine that will ever make you rich. It's a hedge mrchanism in case the market falls you have your gear which you can mine different altcoins with at a very slow pace.

I would go only with 20 series
My 1070 ti feels outdated and not as efficient as 20 series by 30 percent.

Wait till the 20 series super comes out. They will lower price of the regular 20 series.

I maybe would also consider 1660 ti but be aware it's only 6 gb.

Not at all yet 2XXX cards are way too expensive but still giving out the same performance or hashrates with 10xx cards.

If you do try to look most Miners you will able to see on what cards mostly on their rigs

On topic, with those calculations above this shows on how numb you are if you do make use of your laptop or pc with having that single card just because
of those penny earnings.

Oh boy, here we go again with these types of posts.

Someone else already did it earlier, but let me quote the relevant portions from your post that even make mining remotely a good idea:

In case you decide to hold 1 year, and current price doubles, here is rough estimation:

I considered these prices in 1 year:

Price ETH : 540$

Price RVN: 0.12

So telling people they should get into mining because the price might double within a year is pretty silly when they can simply buy some coins outright and double there money in that same time by simply doing nothing but holding. No need for all the GPUs, high electricity bills, heat, and noise that go along with mining.

even at the price of $ 500 mining video cards is not profitable. If only the electricity is free and it is not profitable

now it is more profitable to buy a miner than video cards, the payback from video cards is too large, it takes a lot of time. The situation is different for miners, the payback is 4 months at their price

Probably Grin, beam. The nimble whimble hype soften up a bit. Much better to mine it now vs the previous 5 months. However  it may go down further as coins may need a year of price discovery.

As long as they wait for a cooler time, net difficulty will increase, prices for hardware will rise. If it's possible solve the problems with the heat, now is the time to start. It is a question of strategy, when to start/continue and whether to hold mined coins.

i guess you have seen this thread before and it's still relevance to be used as your information about the comparison from all type from 1k to 2k
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5135665.80

For me, 1080 looks the best on the price and hashrate. I prefer to get it rather than 1080ti or 2k series. That makes sense on the price and hashrate

Anything from Rtx 2060 and up should be a good choice.Keep in mind that even with these cards it takes a lot of time to ROI but mine and keep your coins for the future where we all expect the price of cryptos to go higher than they are.
