hi
I will be replacing a blackberry phone with iPhone 7 (same telephone number). I have authenticator plus downloaded with rotating code links to binance and kucoin. As well, have 2fa linked to phone. Do I have to reset 2fa on binance/kucoin, or will it recognize the new phone automatically? Also, do I need to transfer existing google authenticator plus to the new phone for the binance/kukoin sites to recognize me (not sure if I can do this from bby to iPhone), or simply purchase a new one for the iPhone? I want to avoid handing in my phone to be wiped only to find that I can no longer log into these sites! Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Hey,
If you use Authy - all of your information is saved on your Authy account. Meaning, all of your 2fa accounts and info are linked to your phone number. That means you can remove your SIM, put it into another phone, and that new phone now has the same functionality as the old one.
Google Authenticator, afaik, does not do that. You should remove 2fa off all of your accounts, and add them back with the new phone. You should have saved each of the keys for all 2fa codes, but you likely haven't. (By keys, I mean the short phrase of numbers/letters that the QR code visualizes).
For a switch from Blackberry to iPhone, your app data will not be transferred through Google Authenticator. And if it does, don't rely on it, as there's a high chance of error. You should definitely remove 2fa from all accounts and enable it again after.

There is no way to transfer your 2FA codes to the new phone. The only way to do that is to log in to your accounts using the old phone and register a new 2FA code in the new phone. Because of that, I suggest that you use Authy, which is an app that let you store your codes in the cloud. I know it is not as safe against hacks as Google Authenticator, but Google Auth. is so secure that even you may lose access to your accounts by using it. For more information, i made this post some time ago: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3178131.msg32900782#msg32900782

I couldn't remember about kucoin but binance gives backup code when you enable the 2fa. You can use your backup code on your new phone to adding 2fa. If you don't have backup codes simply disable 2fa's by your old phone and setup with your new phone.

OP, since you most probably will reset the 2FAs for the move, I suggest you save the 2FA seed at the next re-enable. Write them down or print them, you never know when they'll become important. I use Google Authenticator which has no backup, so I've already used a few times the seeds I've saved.

There is no way to transfer your 2FA codes to the new phone. one should always at least have a copy of the secret key in case of emergency like hardware/software failure. with the secret key, you can manually add the 2FA token to any device. i'm super paranoid about this stuff. i have my 2FA tokens backed up on multiple phones + secret keys written down. recovering an account without the 2FA token can be a nightmare from what i hear!

I am super paranoid also. This is why I use authy, as it can be recovered. But as I am paranoid and I have some funds on binance, i will just back up my keys there now lol good idea

Looks new for me,this is app is available for android? I am currently using google authenticator, recently I am upgraded to oneplus 7 pro for that I removed all the 2FA accounts from my old phone then reinstalled everything on new mobile which is kind of headache for a lazy person like me.If there is something will automatically transfer I will go for it.

Authy is available across several devices, you can even add it on your Chrome (if you use one). Keep in mind that the security might be less secure as they store your 2FA code so that you can sync it across several devices. By storing, of course I mean through some encryption and something like that. You should definitely be careful with it. Make sure you don't download the fake one/get phised, they might steal all your 2FA code.

What authenticator you are using? If you have Google auth then its not possible for it to be automatically to be transferred or possible to get the codes on the new phone. Therefore, you would need to disable 2fa with all of your exchange accounts before doing on swapping the old phone to new ones then later on set it on on the new phone.

You don't need to do this. Installing 2fa on your PC only gives hackers another point of attack. Simply use Google 2 factor authenticator, and back up the keys for you to have a backup whenever you lose your device. It's that simple.

Hope you added SMS authentication also for binance other sites. Please do the verification with the codes you got at the time of doing 2FA. You will be getting same authentication code for the mobiles you have added the auth for binance. If you missed doing this steps you will be losing your access and may be you lose the funds on forget or missing the access details.

Before changing to your new phone the iPhone you can unpair your 2fa from Binance/kucoin and get google authenticator or whatever it is you prefer to pair with your phone Or alternatively use authy to avoid above process like everyone has said but if this data can be backed up on their servers I hope this is not a vulnerability point in the future.

Aside replies above I also do this I have the OP's situation, you can use your old mobile phone to transfer to the new one to transfer 2fa but first deactivate first the old one google authentication. Authy is very risky to use much better to avoid this if you have a big amount stored on the website example exchange site. You can use also Gmail verification and SMS verification if you don't want to use 2fa.

Oh wow! So many detailed responses -- thanks to all for taking the time! New to this forum, and first question posted. What a great forum! Worked fine to follow simplest advice and disable sms text and authenticator briefly. I know risky to leave with only password protect but only a couple of hours to transfer phone service, so now I've got sms back on. Google authenticator plus, as mentioned a bit more tricky. I don't have the key, but will simply wipe phone and purchase authy, as recommended , for new phone -- if like ga plus shouldn't be too expensive. Also, hard to transfer google authenticator plus from old bby to iPhone, as systems not very compatible. I'm thinking if I have authy and sms text to phone, should be sufficient security? Cheers mates.
