Hello everyone! Today I launched a new free security application for Windows titled: Wallet Cloak. I felt there was not enough focus on securing wallets so I developed Wallet Cloak.

What is Wallet Cloak?

Wallet Cloak is a robust security application used to encrypt and hide cryptocurrency wallets within image files. Wallets hidden with Wallet Cloak are undetectable and unrecoverable without the correct password. Wallet Cloak uses various techniques to protect wallets including: 256-Bit encryption algorithms, random pixel steganography, and hardware lock encryption keys. You can encrypt and hide any cryptocurrency wallet with Wallet Cloak, and images containing hidden wallets are fully functional as the original images.

Wallet Cloak is an ideal tool for individuals who want an extra level of security when backing up and storing their cryptocurrency wallets, and require their wallets to remain secure. Wallet Cloak is more than just an encryption application; it is also an electronic camouflage for your wallets. Other products just encrypt your files, but Wallet Cloak takes it a step further by hiding your file within image files, thus making your wallets secure and undetectable."

How does Wallet Cloak work?

Wallet Cloak compresses, encrypts, and then conceals wallet data within an image by modifying its colors in a manner that is virtually indistinguishable by the human eye. When a wallet is hidden within a image, it camouflages each section in a region of the image. The regions selected to save each bit of the wallet are chosen by performing several calculations with the password entered. The same calculations are performed when recovering the wallet data hidden within the image.

Is Wallet Cloak spyware or malware?

No! Wallet Cloak doesn't contain any spyware or malware components, and is 100% safe to install and use. I value the trust of my users and I would never bundle spyware or malware components with my software applications.

If I forget my password is there a master password or backdoor you can use to uncloak my wallet?

Absolutely not! Coding a backdoor in any security application and/or algorithm is not only unethical, but diminishes the credibility of the application and the developer. If you forget your password or no longer have access to the computer you used to cloak your wallet if hardware lock was enabled, then it is virtually impossible to uncloak your wallet. Please do not contact me asking if I can uncloak your wallet, I can't!

I hope the members of this forum and the cryptocurrency community will find Wallet Cloak useful. Please spread the word about Wallet Cloak, and any feedback will be appreciated. I intend to make regular updates and add new features to make it better!

Hi thank you for your questions and comments! You DO NOT have to enter any private keys or passphrases from your cryptocurrency client. Think of Wallet Cloak as additional protection to your already encrypted wallets. There are a two key benefits to using Wallet Cloak.

1.) Additional 256-Bit encryption.
2.) Ability to hide your wallets within ordinary images.

So lets say you cloak one of your wallets in an image, you can then transfer that image to your phone and keep it stored there for safe keeping. If your phone is lost or stolen, someone would think it was just an ordinary image.

I assure you it is 100% safe and doesn't contain any viruses, trojans, or malware. I have been a software engineer for over 10 years, and I have worked on everything from security to entertainment applications. I love coding and creating new things for people to use. I would NEVER add a Trojan or anything nefarious to an applications I create.

I forgot to mention that both the installer and the main executable are digitally signed with a code sign certificate.

I had the executables publicly scanned and as you can see everything is clean.

The "Virus total" results mean less than nothing: They never report custom wallet stealers and couldn't be expected to do so. The fact that you keep pointing to them when you should know better yourself is very suspicious.

You should never run non open-source Bitcoin software, you should never run binaries of Bitcoin software that you or someone yourself can't verify matches the publicly audited source.

There is no particular need to use a wallet specific tool, there are many open steganography applications: http://freecode.com/search?q=steganography&submit=Search

There isn't a chance in hell that I'd run this.

Thank you for your comments gmaxwell.

1. Pointing to the Virus Total results verifies there are no immediate known threats.

2. You are absolutely correct that it does not detect custom wallet trojans.

3. Yes there are dozens of free open source steganography applications, as there are dozens of free open source encryption applications. However, many are hard to use for the non-techie user. Also many are coded badly and just append the data to the end of the host file. Wallet Cloak writes data within the image making your wallet(s) virtually undetectable. But I think you missed the purpose of Wallet Cloak. I designed Wallet Cloak specifically for cryptocurrencies and to be easy to use by anyone.

You are entitled to your opinions and concerns, as everyone else who will read this thread and comment. I will point out many of the wallet clients downloaded are created and complied by unknown teenagers in foreign countries, and many wallet clients have been discovered to have been embedded with wallet stealing trojans. I own a small registered company in the United States, and for me to get a code sign certificate I had to provide personal documentation and prove I own a legitimate company. Now obviously this doesn't mean you should automatically trust Wallet Cloak, you shouldn't automatically trust any software, but I think you and anyone else reading this should take everything in totality.

Because of the growing popularity of cryptocurrencies there will be dozens of commercial/closed source applications released that source cannot be verified.

I knew before releasing Wallet Cloak there will be some concerns. I want Wallet Cloak to be vetted and scrutinized and I welcome the comments and questions.

As I mentioned before a user can first lock their wallet(s) before protecting them with Wallet Cloak. You do not have to use any personal keys or pass-phrases from your wallet client.

Additionally, it would be stupid of me to embed anything nefarious within Wallet Cloak knowing my application would be scrutinized by many smart people.

I plan on releasing more cryptocurrency related apps, and I understand both credibility and trust must be established.
