I dont think it will happen because ethereum and any other alt has a strong potential  in the market and Libra coin is new in the market and it is difficult for libra to turn over the place of other coin even bitcoin, bitcoin is decentralized in the first place.

It is not about the potential that Etereum has, it is about the hard facts and these facts say that Ethereum is stronger than any other decentralized smart contract platform out there.

Libra will be a centralized coin, as I understand what I read about it Libra will be a stable coin too, backed up by some financial institutions. It will not be suitable for investments, probably some people will be able to earn it and then these people will try to sell it for ETH, EOS, TRX or some other cryptocurrency, at least I see it like that.
I don`t know for sure what is there for holders, what kind of benefit will holders have, but c` mon, who can compete with JP Morgan, and others who will back up Libra coin?

.
.BIG WINNER!.

I don't agree with that, LIBRA will destroy other coins?
it doesn't make sense to me because LIBRA has just been born and has an official website and whitepaper.
plus many negative responses given by the community cryptocurrency to LIBRA.
I don't think LIBRA will be something big in the near future even though it's a product from Facebook.

that is the truth. ethereum is indeed very strong, much after there are several smart contract platforms ethereum still showing its greatness in the market.

lol.
why do people consider Libra as crypto killer?
the best explanation of libra - troyan horse with Bitcoin inside. no way it will kill something.

I guess you will be surprised. All this semi centralized coins without any use case, that are focusing on marketing will die after only few years of Libra existence.

Not. Not. Not. Firstly, it's just stupid: LIBRA, as I recall, has a fixed price, and this is completely not interesting for speculators. Secondly, heh. The main "fighter with privacy" Mark Zuckerberg against REAL cryptocurrency? This is ridiculous  Wink Wink Wink

Here

To drive widespread adoption, Libra is designed to be a currency where any user will know that the
value of a Libra today will be close to its value tomorrow and in the future. The reserve is the key
mechanism for achieving value preservation. Through the reserve, each coin is fully backed with a
set of stable and liquid assets. With the presence of a competitive group of liquidity providers that
interface with the reserve, users can have confidence that any coin they hold can be sold for fiat
currency at a narrow spread above or below the value of the underlying assets. This gives the coin
intrinsic value from the start and helps protect against the speculative swings that are experienced
by existing cryptocurrencies.

There's no speculation in Libra. So, it would not compete with the said coins.
first and best answer right here. without speculation and real movement, it will become possibly a store a value at most.

I do not think that Libra can kill Ethereum. I think that Ethereum is too different from Libra. Libra is a very centralized cryptocurrency.

Oh! I completely agree. Against the background of all the news about leaks of personal data, it looks "ridiculous"  Angry. Who needs a cryptocurrency, the security of which no one can guarantee?

Will it be an open source project?

There is almost a year since Libra is announced to launch, but I am sure it will take way longer. Many will oppose it. Many will also call to ban it after launch it. And many will ban it. But Libra coin will be a reality for everyone to accept at the end.
How much time they take to launch a centralized coin does not matter here, the countries who are opposing the new market might call for a ban of Libra, investing and accepting Libra depends upon individual decisions and no one can force that shitty coin to anyone, if people find it interesting and it has some utility then they will embrace it, if not it will die within a few years. Cheesy
@ OP Right now i am not a fan of any alt coin, yes i made some good profit in some of the alts a few years back and TRON looks like a potential project but that does not mean that Libra will be the ultimate coin to beat, time will tell what the future holds for that centralized coin.

I agree, ethereum is basically good for business platforms and not as a currency like bitcoin. Likewise Libra Coin, will be used only on Facebook platforms such as WhatsApp or Messenger. Certainly Libra Coin will have many investors because Facebook members are in almost all countries in the world

A lot of people are overrated about libra and they are thinking if a coin which fully controlled by a big company can create a big domination to the crypto market. but i have the opposite opinion about that if libra will help crypto but it will not wanna kill it.
Remember libra can be used only to be a medium payment system that used fully stable coin that backed by real money and no more.

I'm not sure about that. Don't forget that Visa, Mastercard, Stripe and PayPal are onboard. And there are more to come...

Think about it: any places (physical or online) where you can currently pay using a credit card could soon accept Libra. Any online site currently accepting PayPal/Stripe could soon accept Libra too.

This may be a huge game changer. And this is not science-fiction, WeChat Pay is exactly that in China.

Aside from all the hatred towards Zuckerberg, it would be dumb not to consider Libra as a contender. Will it take Ethereum's place? It seems tough, but if there's anybody w/ the resources and manpower, it's FB (among google, amazon, MS, and ebay).

not necessarily. of course the popular coins you mentioned have their respective functions, and have several advantages. maybe libra will indeed be a good coin, but I don't feel that libra can make some coins difficult to develop.

As far as I know Facebook has not advertised Libra Coin yet, what happened was massive news from various online media. Facebook is the most profitable social media platform at the moment and I think Libra coin will be a competitor for established altcoin

Libra will never be a crypto currency because almost everybody from FB has already stated that it is not a regular crypto asset, because they are saving all the data and you cannot even mention about the anonymity. Another centralised payment system.
