I am a bit of a newbie here and have seen a bit of information on the net regarding Coinbase and Bitstamp being great exchanges to use to purchase coins, but being as though they only offer much of the main cryptos coins, I am not able to purchase any of the alternative coins that are cheaper. Plus, since I reside in the States, some of the other exchanges cannot do business with US residents. So, I wanted to know if anyone knew of any alternative REPUTABLE exchanges/brokers to go through that could provide service to US residents, as well as have the option for purchasing the less popular/cheaper coins?

I suggest that you use coinbase or bitstamp to buy bitcoin
With Bitcoin you can transfer it to Binance, which is the most reliable cryptocurrency x cryptocurrency exchange (they don't receive USD deposits).
Then you will exchange BTC for any cheap alternative coin you like.

Also, I will suggest that you keep at least some of your holdings in BTC, which is the most reliable and secure cryptocurrency out here

Think about it. In this image you are trying to become a shitcoinner.

Try Bittrex, Poloniex, Kraken, Huobi.com, and Kucoin.

Binance will no longer serve US customers, starting on 12 Sept.

I wouldn't choose your investments based on what's "cheap" and what's "expensive." There is a huge graveyard of dead altcoins and tokens which were once "cheap" and are now simply worth nothing. Some altcoins will have larger % gains than Bitcoin; others will simply die. Keep that in mind when gambling on altcoins.

Binance is still okay for US residents until September 12. Then they are officially kicking us out and launching a US platform. Presumably the US platform will lack access to many of the coins currently trading on Binance.

IMO, your best overall option is to use coinbase pro, if you live in a supported state. They have the highest liquidity of exchanges accessible to US residents/citizens and the trading fees are not unreasonable. If you can't use coinbase pro, I would not use coinbase because they will charge several percent for you to buy/sell.

In addition to what others have suggested, gemini is also open to US residents, however their fees are ridiculously high.

Trader should be ranked above holder, If you actually know what you are doing you can rapidly increase your bitcoin stack.  There was no point in holding down to the last drop we had at 3k.  you could of easily tripled your stack by trading.

You could easily have reduced it to half and still screaming around" I am 100% up in fiat" too.

I would encourage you not to fall in to the same trap as many newbies do, by spreading yourself too thinly across many altcoins. For every good altcoin out there, there are at least 100 more which will turn out to be complete trash. Yes, if you invest in a bunch of altcoins you might catch the odd pump here or there, but overall you are very likely to lose money or make far less gains than if you had just stayed in bitcoin. When bitcoin goes on a bull run, many newbies find themselves holding a bunch of coins which either do nothing or slowly bleed out, and wishing they had just stayed in bitcoin.

I'm not saying don't buy any altcoins, but you should stick to only a couple which you have read about and understood, rather than just throwing money at whatever you see hyped online.

There are plenty of choices. You are welcome to check our price comparison platform https://exchangerates.pro/ where you'll find offers of exchanges, brokers and P2P marketplaces - besides Bitcoin, we currently have 33 cryptos

All exchanges and brokers are checked by the staff before the integration, only reputable ones with history are added. We've just started and although there is a lot of updates and new integration coming, the current version should be good enough to find some interesting offers  Cool

coinbase and bitstamp only offer coin offers that have high popularity and have very high volumes, if you can't buy other altcoins you may be able to use other methods, for example you buy bitcoin through coinbase or Bitstamp,

after that you can send the bitcoin assets that you have to a binary exchange or other exchange place that has a high trading volume and has very high security,

then you can buy altcoins according to what you want.

#Binance Exchange Place is the best choice.
