Raspberry Pi 4

I'm amazed with hardware improvement, especially 4GB RAM which allow "RAM-hungry" application & better multi-tasking. What do you think?

It's pretty amazing the power they can pack in such a small package.

I'm not rushing out to buy one, my RPi3 has been sitting in a drawer most of it's existence.  I've used it as a smart TV box, a Media server, a stand-alone web surfer...  but I can't seem to find any use for it where it works better than other equipment I already own.  I've been a computer geek for so long I tend to have spare parts laying around with which I can build a system that will run a better OS.

If I can run Ubuntu 18 on the 4GB Pi4 I may give it another go at some point.

I'm at octo core 3ghz arm hauwei. Why can't they pack something like thst into them? One plus must use a cortex arm cpu at a similar processing speed to mine thst they could use...

It's become a bit of a hybrid between a low power and medium power device, I'm wondering where they'll plan to go... They make great products though.

The phone is at least 10x the cost no? RPi tries not to stray away from the $35 price point. If I'm not mistaken, their goal is to get people with no budget a little dev tool to tinker with while approaching the specs of something more than a dev tool with each new revision. Toyota could make a car just like a Lamborghini, but half million dollar cars aren't their market.

Sadly they probably don’t ship to my country and all resellers here try to sell them for at least 3x their price. :/

the RAM is the major revelation in that spec. I'd love a PCI slot or a SATA port, but I guess that would push the cost up too much (despite those being generic commodity features). Makes you wonder how much cheaper Raspberry Pi's would be without the HDMI port (or are the HDMI royalties arm going easy on Raspi for some reason? Can't think why, they've already destroyed the marketplace)

If you need powerful barebone PC, you might as well buy x86-based computer which have better price/performance.

ARM are more efficient and can still reach a faster speed (assuming you mean x80_86 or x86_64). And the value of open source and lack of monitoring unit makes them better than intel/amd.

£54/44/34 is quite expensive compared to the old ones...

I was planning to buy Raspberry Pi 3b plus but it looks like I change my mind and wait for Raspberry Pi 4 to release this here in my country.

Do you think it can emulate ps3 and ps4 for the future development of retropie?

I love to play retro games with my children so if this can emulate more games this is might be a better option to buy.

I was strictly talking about price/performance, i doubt few combined Raspberry Pi could be faster than desktop.

Doubtfully, even high-end PC struggle to run PS3 emulator, except we're talking about distant future.

It's processors combined are apparently 240 gigaflops which is about a quarter of a speed of an nvidia titan 16gb (from a few years ago).

Computer emulators struggle because computers work differently and have a base operating system and the emulator on top and have to keep translating. An emulator alone might make it faster...


A lot of companies are considering ditching 8664 in favour of other things as far as I can tell.

Microsoft seem to be trying to dump as much as possible onto graphics chips and apple were considering using arm chips instead of 8664.

You mean the Raspberry Pi cluster it looks like if we combined them we can play ps3 and ps4 games sample 2 raspberry pi 3b+ and 2 raspberry pi 4 combine these 4. Do you think is it possible to reach the required performance to play even ps3 games?
