Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Doe anyone here see bitcoin dominance going back to over 70% dominance again?  What has me confused is a while back when it was that much, then everything started dropping around half that amount in btc dominance.   This happen when btc went up but the alts went up much more.  Now that the price of all coins dropped, only now is btc dominance slowly going back up... because btc drops in percentage but the alts drop much more percentage.

So in a way, if you have btc is that good or bad?  I mean if you want btc to go up if you own it... but you also don't want the dominance of it to be so little compared to the alts right?

As you said, there are so, so many new coins and token launches by new projects taking place every single day which is adding extra marketcap at the alts' end whenever they get started being tracked by services like coinmarketcap and coingecko, which is why BTC's dominance is looking weaker than ever. I don't think we'll get above even 50% if BTC remains under $60k, and it's quite dangerous for the price of BTC. There's a very strong support for BTC dominance near 38 points area, if it reaches and tests that area, I believe we might see a pump in BTC's price.

I do not think that small coins have a serious impact on the share of bitcoin in the market, too different scale and even a lot of small coins cannot change something here. The main influence is made by coins from the top 10 or top 100. And we must look at the ETH separately - it is confidently moving towards its historical maximums relative to bitcoin and I am already beginning to believe that it will surpass them. I think such an event will revolutionize the minds of investors and this may have a further impact on the share of bitcoin in the market.

only self gaslighting allows you to truly believe this.

No coin as centralized as eth has true value.

Any government in the world can grab mr v and eth is up a creek with out a paddle.

Its the riskiest coin in the top ten.

Look what was done to Macafee so they do it to mr v and bye bye eth.

The sudden drop in Bitcoin dominance from 70% to 40% was driven by a handful of altcoins - established coins such as Ethereum, Dogecoin, BNB, Cardano and XRP, along with a few newly listed coins such as Internet Computer. Ethereum, BNB and Cardano may be able to maintain most of their recent gains, but I don't think that shitcoins such as Doge and XRP will be able to do that. So it will be natural to expect that the Bitcoin dominance would go back to 50% plus levels. But recovering all the lost ground (i.e 70%) would be really difficult.

It has been a rollercoaster ride for the last 12 months. At one point in January, the dominance touched 70% level (first week of January 2021). Then it started sliding and reached 39.97% one month ago. The market share of Ethereum increased by almost 1.5x (from 12% to 18%). The % increase was higher for some of the other coins  - BNB went up from 0.7% to 3.5% (5x). Doge went up by 15x (0.14% to 2.50%). Then there are a few others, such as XRP and Cardano which increased their market share. Now Bitcoin is slowly regaining some of the lost market share.

A roller coaster indeed due to market volatility. Bitcoin has been pumping and dumping like crazy since it hits 60K level and rejected multiple times. Once Bitcoin price already determined the trend, I believe dominance will become stable.

So most people agree its going to be almost impossible for btc dominance to hit 70 percent again right?  I find this extremely hard now because when btc goes up, the alts seem to go up higher percentage.  If that is the case, how did btc dominance last time dropped to below 40 percent... then went up to high 60 percent though?  Then it went up higher but then went down lower again.

Well... for me, the current pump seems to have run out of gas for Bitcoin. Means that the bullish phase we had from 2020 October to 2021 May has ended by now. For the next few months, I expect stable exchange rates of around $30,000-$40,000 per coin, with wild fluctuations. And when the situation is ripe, we will have the second bull run, which will hopefully take Bitcoin to six-digit prices for the first time. And from what I have seen so far, the market dynamics look eerily similar to what happened in 2017 (even the change in Bitcoin dominance looks similar).
