Failed to execute script run_electrum

Hi all,

Was happily running electrum 3.3.4 on Windows 7 Professional. Last week I installed a couple of minor windows updates:

Windows Malicious Software Removal tool (KB8890830)
Monthly Quality rollup for windows (KB4503292)

Now I can't run electrum. I get the error :

Failed to execute script run_electrum

when I try and execute. I've installed the latest version (3.3.6 from electrum.org), but it's showing the same behaviour.

I've had a bit of a read round and I've already got KB2999226 that some posts suggest are required for this error.

Does anyone have any suggestions please as to how to resolve, before I take the more drastic step of restoring my system to the point prior to the windows update?

For the benefit of others, there were some additional windows updates, that only became visible once the first set of updates were complete.

Once these were installed the upgraded version 3.3.6 worked.
