The acceptance of women in world power? A woman President?

The women, tonight are on fire! Glad to see so many strong women candidates in the presidential debates.  As a woman, I am proud to see that women are standing up to the pressure of the political arena.

The acceptance of women running for high positions in government, in the modern world has been so slow., and especially tough in the U.S. which is surprising. Women have been particularly vulnerable in running for office. There seems to be a particularly intense zest in the character assassinations of women. And both men and women do this. Sometimes it seems that women are even harsher on other women. That has been the history so far.
But over all I think women are getting stronger, better, smarter,  and are not going to be shamed any longer.

But what do you think? How soon before we have a woman President?

I think the lust for a woman president is more likely to cause a poor decision than be a positive thing..

Women have not been president because the chances of a woman being qualified to be president and being in the right place in the right time is less than that of a man, but less so in these recent times..

I would happily vote for a woman if she was the best choice, but voting for a woman just to get your token woman president is foolish IMO..

My thoughts exactly. I agree. If you're not qualified I don't want to vote for you either, man or woman.
My point was women have not been capable of winning for a variety of complex cultural reasons. Women have buckled under the pressure of the unusually harsh criticism.
I was just admiring that women candidates are over all.getting stronger and not so easily made to look weak or foolish despite their qualifications.
This quality can only come from the individual, not to get rattled. So looks like we are evolving. 😊

If it was about qualifications, Trump would not have gotten elected that said, Hillary was not a good choice.

Saying that men are by themselves always more qualified than women is ridiculous.

However I agree OP, that it IS suprising that US, who deem themselves to be the greatest democracy, have not been able to put forward ONE "qualified" female candidate that would actually win.

That puts US behind countries such as ones in the Balkans. It is hillarious really. And the you get misogynists who will say "women in US have it much better than men, men are opressed blah blah".

Women can make brilliant strong leaders - Boudica  ( Queen of the Iceni ) for example, and Elizabeth, Queen of England. However, some of them are weak, and controlled by an outside influence, Theresa May ( the retiring British Prime Minister ), is the obvious example. Who wants to see a national leader (?) burst into tears, because the country rejects a really bad and treasonous deal that some banker had written for her.

Already they are at the top positions and the most powerful human in the world may also be queen Elizabeth.Sure they also become president and minister but they need to how that they can stay at any decision with strong mentality for having trust from other women.

Now I am thinking even a Woman president and woman Vice President, may fly.  I was thinking Gabbard/ Williamson or Williamson/ Gabbard, either way.. But last night Kamala Harris blew Biden out of the water!
So Kamala may take it all.

Just a side note. It is Kamala that has an Indian mother. Not Gabbard. Gabbard is a practicing Hindu but not Indian.

i think the president could be better as man, not woman. because man is born to be the leader. maybe woman will be better to have a second place after the president, just like vice or something that can influence the president. cause woman has strong feeling, and man has great decission. then we are born to be a partner.

I don't think gender of president really matters. You're not supposed to to vote for man or women, you should vote for politician who is most preferable for you.
You should look at image around the world, you'll see how many women president there are. And different than in US, people there aren't paying attention to gender, job of politician and what they achieved is most important thing.

I wouldn't use May as an example. She had ''balls'' to become Prime Minister in such shitty situation when any man didn't wanted to do that. But, no matter it's women or man, you always can find terrible examples of leaders. Porbably David Cameron or Boris Johnsosn also can't be called as great leaders...

we used to have a female president (Cory Aquino) after she became the president she abandoned most of the previous president's project out of spite. the project of the previous president could've helped a lot of the citizen living in the country. although the previous president is known to be a tyrant but abandoning the projects because of that is immature and illogical.

People needed someone different and they chose the first black dude that looked about right to take the chair. Most people will agree that Obama was a mediocre president. Now there's another push for a woman and obviously parties will want to play that card in the next election. At some point people will become desperate to finally choose a woman and probably will choose a mediocre one, or worse.

I agree I would say Obama was mediocre. He was ok, maybe a little underrated considering what he was up against, being the first president of color. He certainly broke down cultural barriers and stirred up all the dormant seething racial hatred. This probably contributed to his sometimes disappointing indifference and lacking of backbone, because he was busy trying avoid getting assassinated.

And as for women, that might have been the case if Hilary was elected. (Yes, let's not forget that she did get the popular vote.) She was not my first choice but I was hoping for the best, as many of us were. She did break cultural barriers, and I give her kudos for that. But she paid a heavy price for it.

But Tulsi and Harrison seem light years away from that defensiveness, and being thrown off center that we saw in Hilary too often. Tulsi and Harrison both have an ease about as they lay down the law. They deflect effortlessly any attempt to unsettle them or get them off topic. So I am  thinking, if they get the chance they would NOT be mediocre.

I want to watch Harris for hawk leanings which might be in the "worse" category, but so far she and Gabbard are looking good.
Gabbard would be my pick for president with Harrison vice president or secretary of state. Williamson might be too much, but it will be fun to watch how they all progress.
