What do you think is fair price for Legendary rank Bitcointalk account?
Let’s go to the basics first. Why would someone want to purchase a Legendary account?
Well, likely, amongst the reasons we’d find:
a) Want to join campaigns with a high rank, and get paid more.
b) Incapable of building-up an account (no skills, time, patience, fast lane pass lover, lazy, etc.)
c) Want to scam people, and that is easier to some extent with a high ranked account, since lower ranked accounts tend to trust them more.
d) Want to have a sort of status, inherent to a high rank.
Now for the forum’s stand: account sales are not prohibited, but heavily frowned upon, as per the
rules.
Now for many people’s stand on account buyers and sellers:
a) Scammers.
b) Jump-the-line dickheads.
c) Scammers (again).
d) Cheats.
e) Untrustworthy.
And last but not least, potential consequences:
a) Get scammed when performing the purchase of the account (i.e. no goods delivered).
b) Receive an inherently tainted account, acting as a time-bomb with plagiarism or such buried within, that may get you banned at any point in time.
c) Receive negative trust from DTs and others (whether it is a Trust issue is another matter, but the Negatives have been handed out like candies for this).
d) Get rebutted in public, lose credibility tied to the account.
Now to the question: what is a fair price?
My personal stand is that account sales should not be permitted, and anyone caught should be banned (difficult as it sometimes may deem to determine). That would give a clear non-ambiguous scenario for dealing with account sales, and not having a duality that leads to Trust being used for what is was not intended for (with no consensus on that either). Grey area.
A fair price to me should therefore be a permanent ban. I’ve built my account from scratch, as the majority, and it requires bags of time and a bit of effort. I don’t like fast-track passes here, and there is no self-esteem thrown into the ring when purchasing one. That is a fair price to me.
