NEM Together: December 2020 update
It’s been a month of real progress as we gear up to launch Symbol.  As you’ll read in the rest of this month’s newsletter we’ve been smashing it across the board!  Exchanges announcing support for Symbol, new wallets going live, a huge amount of effort (not to mention skill) going on with the tech development.  Whilst we still have a lot to do, things are coming together to ensure that we are proud of the launch of Symbol.

We are trying to avoid custom clearance delays nor complications, so we declared the items as “Digital Certificate Samples” and not “SIM cards”, which is also true (if you use them in a certain way) The declared value is 1$ per set, will see if we have any issues with this setting. Can you explain these practical issues? what if someone doesnt have dual sim or old phone? what if someone forgot take old phone on vacation? battery empty

Edwin [new.capital]: Ok, a quick reminder - the final goal of the FIX Network is to enable this technology on user’s primary SIM cards via partnerships with the local operators. The current FIX SIMs simply serve as proof of concept and will enable us to present it to operators, service providers and developers. At this stage the service will be usable with dual sim phone or a secondary phone, as we can not provide primary sim services (yet, maybe one day). If battery is empty - then perhaps you can’t use anything online anyway, but, you will be able to take the sim out of your phone and use USB smartcard reader and use PC to sign transactions with a private key that is stored in your SIM, even offline. I hope this clears things up a little.

Have you talked to them (operatos, service providers and developers) to measure curiosity and what do they think? are they have ordered too?
Edwin [new.capital]: We are in discussions with operators of various sizes and also with service providers, including the biggest players in the industry. The feedback is very positive and we have lots of interest in the technology. However, this type of innovation is challenging to implement on as nobody wants to be the first one. Operators usually do not invent anything, they prefer to follow the well standardized and supported solutions, provided by well known vendors. The bigger the operator - the bigger the challenge. That’s why we are trying to use standardized components in our solution as much as we can, like phone number and signaling network. We still lacking some user experience in our flows as the solution still requires a mobile app and signature time is longer than expected, but there are some ideas how to improve this in the future. I don’t want this to create false expectations or sound too positive. There is long way to go and lot of hard work to do to fine tune the solution and get it implemented outside our own operations - but so far everything looks very promising.

When can we expect to sign our ID using FIX cards to enter NCE, and also to sign every withdrawal from NC exchange? That would be a great use case in real life giving probably best decentralized 2FA in the market as I see it. Am I right?
Edwin [new.capital]: Log in with FIX SIM has been implemented and live long ago. You can even skip google 2FA if you use FIX to log in. Withdrawals are still pending implementation, but now when SIMs are about to be delivered, we will push this feature soon.

2020 was a very challenging year for most of us in so many ways. But despite all the headwinds, this was a very productive year for New Capital. It is very exciting to look back and remind ourselves of the remarkable moments and achievements in 2020. Let's list some of the publicly visible milestones:
 
• The FIX development team implemented and tested the full logic required for performing cryptographic signatures on a SIM card, together with a SIM Toolkit app for configuring the SIM.

• The TWINS and FIX blockchains achieved stability and security, and a multi-tier architecture was added.

• The chain.review blockchain explorer was launched.

• Fully geo-redundant and secure NCE infrastructure was deployed.

• NCE EU-compliance was achieved, with full registration as a crypto exchange.

• NCE fees for participants were implemented for the first time.

• The NCE Private API was released together with an algo-trading bot.

• The Source Force and NCE integration was completed, including an automated airdrop process.

• Our partnership with NEM was enhanced, enabling us to participate in the first-of-its kind, government-backed crypto project, LBCoin, which was launched by the Bank of Lithuania. The technical knowledge and legitimacy acquired through this trailblazing project will be leveraged for many years to come.
Looking forward to 2021, we hope to achieve even more. Here is a short list of our goals for the upcoming year:
 
FIX Network:
• Distribute the Early Adopter FIX SIM cards.
• Fine tune the FIX ID solution with the help of our community.
• Start sending FIX ID cards to influencers and industry players.
• Onboard additional service providers to implement the FIX ID solution.
• Test the FIX ID app in a wide range of real-world use cases.
• Migrate to NEM's Symbol enterprise blockchain.
• Launch a ground-breaking and highly-anticipated product for FIX - a decentralized policy and DID number management solution.
• Initiate the FIX Hardware Button project.
 
TWINS:
• Migrate to NEM's Symbol enterprise blockchain.
• Initiate a real-world scenario for TWINS - the issuance of digital assets on the TWINS network.
• Launch a physical TWINS coin and the associated custodial services.
• Design and implement a supply-demand inflation model.
 
New Capital:
• Launch Source Force v1.0.
• Introduce a new asset listing process.
• Advance the 3rd party project listing service on Source Force.
• Publish a mobile version of the NCE platform.
• Improve processes and implement innovative solutions to comply with regulatory requirements.
• Launch our masternode hosting and custodian services.
 
Wallet App:
• Resume project development.
 
Chain Review:
• Include additional coins/assets on this platform.
• Enable transaction, address, masternode and cluster tagging by the community.
• Publish a mobile version of this platform.
• Advance the platform integration with other services.

I am not sure I understand what choice is ignored, could you please comment on that, @ThreatAcc ?
While it is understandable that many are waiting for their SIMs to arrive, please understand that it takes time to burn the firmware, pack and ship over 7000 SIMs. The process is serial and lockdowns do not really help. In addition to this, we are facing some disturbing company issues that may lead to FIX management restructure. Nothing to worry, this is not changing our commitment, long-term goal nor direction, we just need you to be more patient. As published earlier, our plan for 2021 is:

• Distribute the Early Adopter FIX SIM cards.
• Fine tune the FIX ID solution with the help of our community.
• Start sending FIX ID cards to influencers and industry players.
• Onboard additional service providers to implement the FIX ID solution.
• Test the FIX ID app in a wide range of real-world use cases.
• Migrate to NEM's Symbol enterprise blockchain.
• Launch a ground-breaking and highly-anticipated product for FIX - a decentralized policy and DID number management solution.
• Initiate the FIX Hardware Button project.

At this early stage it would be irresponsible to suggest any quantitative indicators as we simply do not know, but be sure that we do our best.

In symbol-based TWNS/FIX, anyone will be able to setup and operate a node, without a collateral, and users with be able to delegate their stake (harvest) coins to any node of their choice. There will be minimum staking amount configured, and maximum coin amount per node, to control the distribution. Every node will be able to setup their own fee, therefor to compete on stakers. Stakers on the other hand, will delegate not only their coins, but also their importance score to that node. This score is calculated by amount of transactions and other wallet activities. The nodes with higher importance score will more likely to win the block, therefore to increase the ROI for them selves and stakers. This is the whole new eco-system that motivates not only technical people to setup nodes, but also build and engage with the community around each node. We are soon launching a public testnet for everyone here to play with. Because both TWINS and FIX use cases will be tested on this network, we decided to call it TWIX)
