Hi guys as the title says, I'm looking for suggestions on how to properly clean the dusts on my system unit.

I've watched different videos about using air can, shopvac, datavac(not available) but I want to know your techniques. Would you mind to tell on how you clean your system units if its dusty? I've cleaned mine before but its very minimal with cotton buds and cloth.

I believe scrubbing with cloth may damage the units(my own opinion not proven otherwise)but what I use is paint brush mate since I basically clean mine at least once or twice a month so the dust won’t stick hard in my units and I believe that this is how meticulous owners like me does to keep safe and clean our system units.maybe try to invest more time for them to stay longer because dust is units enemy

Vacuum cleaner is really good thing to clear all the dust found on the system and lens cleaner can be used to clean very tiny dust and then use your soft cloth to rub everything left on the system.

Thanks for those replies.

@ johnzky I didn't know that using cloth can damage the unit itself?
It’s my own opinion mate as what I’ve mentioned above since for me scrubbing unit are like scratching them and in long run my damage the unit.
But the best way to prevent dust from staining is to brush them at least weekly or blowers them often times so we don’t need to have physical contact on each units.

These are only my own ideas mate that I wanna share, you can still do what other says.

It's okay and your opinion has mean so much for me.

I forgot to mention that I've used brush for few times but I don't clean my unit that oftenly. I'm very much interested to purchase a blower that's dedicated to suck dust to make the task easier.

Have you ever used a paint brush or small type of brush to dust off your system unit?

The other videos that I've ever watched also used it after vacuuming or blowing the dust. Because there's still a small remaining dust particle on each side of the unit and as well onto the top of boards.

Once or twice a year I open my desktop up and one key thing I keep in mind is to have plenty of light so that I can see all the dust and cat hairs that have built up over time, even though most of it is usually sitting at the fan grilles. I don't disassemble every single bit but I remove the obvious power cables and detach all of the USB cables, and the tool I use mostly are the compressed air spray cans and with all the light I'll blow the heck out of the insides until all the crud/hairs/dust is gone, and if need be, I'll take a dry cloth and gently wipe parts down if need be, like hard drives. I'm careful about applying the compressed air each time because I don't want to freeze/ruin parts, and that stuff tends to work really well for me even if there's dust attached to the graphics card or other stuff I just apply it centimeters away and it usually blows the dust right off.

I've never tried using any kind of vacuum and I probably never will. That just sounds too risky, like that'd be awful to lose parts or to cause parts to rip off because vacuums tend to be rather strong. With a compressed air can at least you can alter the power of the pressure applied. Cotton balls also sound too risky and I would never use those because the little strings on those come off very easily and it's annoying how they get stuck to things because of that.

A damp cloth should be fine for use on the interior/exterior of the case but careful not to use it around the memory sticks, mobo, graphics unit... anything that could be damaged from liquids.

Do you really tried to clean your own unit?or have you try browsing the internet on what others use for cleaning theirs?well better check it because you are missing something more helpful than what you use to have mate.

That’s what I’m trying to say mate, about using paint brush but if you can do it oftentimes maybe vacuuming won’t be necessary

This is very informative. Just like those videos that I've watched, most of the comments below tells that using a vacuum is risky so I think I'll remove that to my list because I'm already planning to buy one but thank goodness that you have shared it here. I've used cotton ball stick before but luckily there's no indication that it has been damaged but I guess I'll stop using it now since you've mentioned it's too risky.

As for the cloth, I don't use wet one, I use the dry ones.

That’s what I’m trying to say mate, about using paint brush but if you can do it oftentimes maybe vacuuming won’t be necessary
I guess I'll stick to brushing it and blowing dusts through my mouth. Shocked

Nope, I've found luck with my system unit and I don't have plans of replacing it now.

Buy a special fan.
Remember that you can blow dust off the motherboard with only your mouth
What kind of special fan do you suggest?

I'm off using any kind of blower to dust off my motherboard because it might discharge.

Use BleachBit.
Thanks for the suggestion but I'm looking for the physical way of cleaning the system alone.

BleachBit is like CCleaner?

I actually use an air blower. Its like a compressed air can that never empties... But you have to make sure no fan spins, as it generates electricity that can damage components (or you could disconnect them).

I don't see any risk in using a vacuum cleaner, even strong ones, except the aforementioned don't let any connected fan spin.

If you are scared of static discharge then you must live in a dry place. Only other thing i could tell you is i know someone who regularly submerges asic hash boards in water mixed with some dish water soap, then cleans them with a water hose and dries them over a day or two using the exhaust hot air from other asic miners. Yeah saw him doing it to computer motherboards, no problems except the ones he foolishly forgot to take the clock batteries out from, not much biggie just replace the batteries. Remember to discharge the board by unplugging it while on, you can do that safely at boot or in the bios screen.

I'd recommend taking any attached fans out, don't like their grease getting cleaned out from their bearings...

Hi guys as the title says, I'm looking for suggestions on how to properly clean the dusts on my system unit.

I've watched different videos about using air can, shopvac, datavac(not available) but I want to know your techniques. Would you mind to tell on how you clean your system units if its dusty? I've cleaned mine before but its very minimal with cotton buds and cloth.
we can you say everything but in all the time we need to be careful while cleaning the system very carefully otherwise it will definitely affected by that so that I think we need some experience in this case otherwise it will definitely give problem for you after that.

Prevention is better than a cure.

Start wearing a hazmat suit around your computer, as 80% of dust is dead skin.
