Lots of dead coins in my experience from 2014 until now. Most of the dead coins are usually before being delisted by the exchange, surely the price is pumped by whoever. This is certainly to find the last profit of the coin. Usually, this used to happen at Poloniex.
I think it's rather difficult to make big money from dead coins except following the above method, pump at the last moment. Or you could have bought the coin project directly from the developer and you continue to develop it with your team. Surely if you succeed, this will make millions of dollars.

Delisted coins or most likely those project which is abandoned by their own developers.
We can also use airdrop coins as an example of dead coins and those bounty projects that don't even reached on listing in an exchange.
Once a coin is dead, there will be no chance to make a profit for them especially if there is no available market.

Yes, there are lot of coins that are being abandoned by their developers after being funded they left their investors, some of them due to inactivity and also there are no update from the team are getting not enough orders in the market, exchanges has the right to delist them, if they know that the coin is soon to be dead or already been dead and developers cannot support the project anymore.

From the amount of 3000 altcoins on the market, in my opinion there are more than 70% in the category of death coins. In my opinion, one category of dead coins is coins that have no liquidity and sometimes are not traded at all in exchangers. There are a number of projects that I know of when ICO won millions of dollars in funds and now the price has fallen to 99% below the ICO price

There is nothing you can do if you are going to make pumps on that coin unless there is a development from devs in that way coin/token will be alive but it is really hard to do especially with no updates even just a month. Mostly, this happened because of the market condition OR team already made an exit.

There is no idea you can produce to turn a dead coin into money. What does the holder see when holding the dead coin? I guess they will just throw it away, moreover there is no volume for the dead coin in exchangers. The only way you can sell it when there is still volume or sell it to people who want to collect dead coins.

Though there is not many updates from the devs, as long as the coin is fully functional in the market, there is a huge chance that it can be alive again through the help of strong news from a reliable source. The way how could this happen is when there is a huge volume of cryptocurrency enthusiast that will believe and will then accumulate its market price.

I've had an idea for quite some time now, and yet to see any success (or real effort) in the creation of a blockchain, or some sort, of asset that derives value from shitcoins.  

Idea can be really novel, accepting any investment/token or asset that has any value, and issuing a new crypto (pegged at a certain valuation), where those shitcoins can be traded in for. Those shitcoins can all be eventually be burned off, thus creating a unifying crypto (for those who participated), even swapping in shit tokens for eternity, proportional to the cost of the new crypto asset.

This would be a legit project, based around community/investor participation, how a crypto should truly be.


I don't have time or the real desire to create any crypto anymore, i mostly advise teams in creating successful projects these days. Idea is open for anyone; would love to see it come to fruition some day, could be quite lucrative for whomever aswell

There was a coin over at poloniex ages ago (coinsource? or a similar name) that did a 1-1 swap for dead coins. And unlike a lot of 'cleanup' coins, a working wallet wasn't a requirement. Instead they accepted a screenshot of a wallet, with a general limit on how much would be given out -- as otherwise folks would fake it and abuse the giveaway.

That could work again, if anyone out there ever felt like making a Lazarus coin and bring dead coins back to life.

Otherwise with no working blockchain, I guess tax loss harvesting is the only way to get anything out of it? You may need to destroy the wallet or do something like that to prove the loss... not entirely sure what is required, but a tax guy would know.

The funny thing is that some projects are still developing their "vision" while their tokens are dead in the water aka trading with zero daily volume. So it would be premature to brand those project "dead" I suppose. That being said, I am pretty sure I own some actual dead coins, the ones that have been created just because of a quick money grab attempt without any usability, like Windcoin and more poop like that.

I know some of the dead electronics like BitConnect, NEM, Universa ... and many other Tokoin have died and are about to die due to scams organized as ICOs and Can't bear the pressure of the bear market.

In my opinion it's very risky if you want to buy Dead crypto, it's better to buy assets that will grow even though it is enough to spend capital, but if you still want to buy dead crypto you have to buy the lowest price when there is an increase, immediately sell dead crypto assets that You have.

Yeah, there will be no pump at all for dead coins, unless you have searched, investigated and the CEO of the project still active in the community communicating that there is a big change that will happen and that they will come back and will not run away. Let's make sure of it first, before our hope will awake, so we won't hope for nothing. For those dead coins, you can see it in Etherdelta if it is available.

And in the future, at least half of the projects will also die, if not more and more will remain those who will hold their position in the top 50-100. But even top coins can collapse, remember BCC.

There is no way that you can make money on dead coins, it's really dead! how can you sell them? even you sell for 1 satoshi no one will buy. They are no longer interested in dead coins because they know they can not make money of it.

I think there is no solution to this problem, only the one who can answer is the developer of the coin. The solution lies in those who develop coins. Do they want to develop further or not. If we have to make a list, then it will be huge. Almost 90% of the projects are dead. All vanished somehow. However, if there is a delete button in our wallet, it would be handy.

Yeah and actually even investors can answer it, as you can see a coin/token that even if it is dead if you can see that the developer is working and the team is constantly updating the community, so for me, there's nothing to worry about yet, maybe it's just too early to judge, we can only say that they are dead crypto if we will see that the team has abandoned it.

But we better save it than we sold it with shit price like 1 sat because i have an experienced my dead coins is rising and become half of the ICO price. I've joined streamity ICO a year ago and i've bought 3k tokens. After enter markets the price is go down almost 95% than ICO price so i decided not to sell it and just save it for my collection. But a week ago the price of the token rise up until the half of the ICO price (Still not getting profit from the ICO price but better than nothing) then i sold all the tokens.

Lately, I have seen some developers actually trying to promote their project again, and some of them are the ones that I already feel were dead which makes me wonder if the altcoin season is approaching because it is during altcoin season that many of them use to rise again for their project which is why I am not even bothered about majority of the coins that I have in my wallet as shitcoin because I know that one day, they will rise back for me to be able to take out my investment before they die off completely.

It is worth that already existing investor of those coins keeps holding it but I don’t think that it is wise for any newbie to hold it as there is more guarantees and more prospect for projects that are within the top 100 in the coinmarketcap.

I used to be Ethereum mining. I dug up musicoin sometime. Then the price went to almost zero. Many altcoins are losing power every day. Some of the project teams even stop developing. ETC !! One of them. Perhaps a similar situation will take place in the VTC (Vertcoin) soon.

Two years ago I was able to bag some coins from a bounty task, it was doing well at that time but then the developer disappeared without a trace, even if it was listed but without a team it is useless.
There are a lot of useless coins available in the market I believe and as far as I know, there is no way to bring them to life as they were already abandoned. It'll just be a waste of time to think about them.
