Unable to login through Microsoft Edge Browser

This morning i was trying to log into the forum from my new computer and since i don't other browser installed yet, i decided to use Microsoft Edge but i keep getting the "cookie error" every time i try again.



Is this a general problem for all other users who use Microsoft edge? because i just logged in through google chrome in my old computer and the logging in was swift.

Maybe some volunteer can help check out through Microsoft edge and see if the logging in is successful, it could be  a problem that has not been noticed yet

I don't use Microsoft Edge, but it would seem other people have had a similar problem with Microsoft Edge blocking all cookies by default, and therefore being unable to log in to anywhere. First of all, click on the drop down menu at the top right, then "Settings", then "Advanced Settings", scroll to the bottom, and ensure the drop down box under "Cookies" is not set to "Block all cookies". If that doesn't clear things up, then try logging in to other sites via Edge and let us know if they are behaving normally.

I would also recommend not to use Microsoft Edge and instead opt for Firefox or Brave.

I tried it on my Microsoft Edge and it worked smoothly. Have you tried clearing your browser data (esp. cookies & cached)? Maybe that would help.

Just saw o_e_l_e_o's post,  I want to share that mine was also set to "Don't block cookies" and in my Microsoft Edge version it can be seen under Privacy & security instead of Advanced.

What I noticed was my account got logged out on all devices after logging out on Microsoft edge, could anyone confirm as well if that's really how it is?

Yes.

When pressing the logout button, the server invalidates all active sessions for this user.
Invalidating sessions basically means all session id's are removed from the database. Therefore upon visiting (or reloading) the site, no active session is found and you have to login again. Doesn't matter from which browser you are trying / from which browser you have logged out.

I try not to use any Microsoft products these days. I use the Brave browser, and I love it, I've even earnt a bit of crypto through using it.

I remember how much we celebrated when microsoft stopped supporting IE.

I will only accept Chromium and Firefox as good but since Chrome and Chromium both have a load of security holes and chrome has trackers then firefox is better imo.

It'll be one session ID? I think it just pulls your id from the server and if you don't have one it assigns one. Then deletes it on logout for security (could be completely wrong though, haven't done much fiddling recently).

Just as Windows and Edge send everything you do back to Microsoft for storage/analysis/selling to third parties, Google use Chrome in just the same way. If you have a Google account, it is even worse, with everything you do online being linked with your real name and details to build a complete profile of you, which can then be sold to everyone from marketing to political consulting firms. Add in the fact that Google are now blocking third party content blockers from Chrome, forcing you to see ads and run scripts that you don't want to. Chrome is pretty much spyware at this point.

I don't understand the thing behind brave. How do you know they're not tracking you?
Also, are they based off firefox or chromium?

Opera have an inbuilt vpn also, they just need to make firefox the same..

I wonder how much data they have on me actually. I've changed my default search engine on everything to duckduck but I have an android phone and a lot of the sites have google trackers inbuilt in them anyeay now...

We need to make a bitcoin fund to set aside to buy Google.

https://takeout.google.com/ for anyone who is interested. Even just browsing while logged in to your Google account means the data they hold on you is staggering. God forbid you have linked your mobile phone/tablet/laptop to your Google account, because now they have a full location history on you as well. If you have a Google home, they've recorded all your conversations. If you use a health device, they even know your heart rate. They know everything from what time you wake up to what temperature you like your bedroom, when and where you go and how you travel there, what you browse, search, buy, watch, read, play, etc. They sell that data to anyone they like.

I don't understand why people don't find this terrifying. I can't understand why Chrome's market share continues to be so high.

Brave is almost basically chrome but without the tracking part and its just better overall, I don't have any other arguments on that, yeah.

There's a duckduckgogo browser application for mobiles if you wanna use.

As much as I like Brave, I don't think it is better than Firefox. If you are looking for a browser you can just install and run with, which requires minimum set up or configuration, then I agree Brave is probably your best bet. However, in terms of add ons and customizability to improve your security, safety and privacy, Firefox wins. If you can afford to spend an hour or two installing the right add ons and tweaking the right settings, then Firefox is absolutely the best browser, short of using Tor.

I also don't agree with that Verge article about the issues with Firefox being extensions, compatibility, syncing, and speed. In my experience, Firefox generally has better extensions than Chrome, especially with Google now banning many content blockers on Chrome. I've literally never had an issue on any device with Firefox not being compatible. All my devices can sync to the same profile if I want. And given that Chrome now eats RAM like there's no tomorrow, I find my Firefox with all the third party scripts and nonsense properly blocked is fast than Chrome anyway.

I'm also a big fan of the userChrome.css file in Firefox to let you make it look just how you like it.

No, it creates a new session id for each browser/device.

Simply pulling the session id from the DB would be a small security flaw.

Invalidating all session IDs when logging out has its advantages. Imagine you logged into your account in a public place, left the place but forgot to log out.
Instead of waiting for the session to invalidate (i.e. keep me logged in for X minutes), you can simply login from another device (e.g. your mobile) and logout.

Brave is based on chromium, yes.
Almost all browser are based on chromium now. Basically it is firefox vs chrome/chromium now.
