Filipino translation- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5236031.msg54110328

"Necessity is the mother of invention."

I have been having a long conversation with a user here for the last 2 months. Within this period, I had PM with some other user as well. At some point, I was not anymore able to catch up on the discussion with the user who I have been having a conversation for the last 2 months.
So, I tried to find out an easy way, had a discussion here and thought to share the effective use of the Personal Message of the forum.

The basic is inbox and outbox which we all are known to. I'm leaving that part, I will only discuss the other option which we never used or we never have been known.

1. Check latest activity

Image Loading

If you click on My Messages, you will get this list. Here in this list, you may get some with an arrow(point with yellow color), some without an arrow. The arrow points that you have been responded to that message, without an arrow points you have not responded to that message.

2. Label
Label is a way of filtering message as per needed. For ex. if you want to filter message by a certain user, put his name(anything) on the bow and click on add a label first. For test purpose, I have created a label namely "test".

Image Loading

3. Add message manually to label
Under each of the message, you will see the option to label that message as shown in the image below.

Now, click on the dropdown list and select your specific label name.

Image Loading

4. Check the magic labels
Now, you will find your labels under the inbox & outbox menu. Click on your certain label to catch up all the message on that label.

Some of the info has been taken from- https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Personal_messages

5. Pop up notification on message
If we receive a message, we got notification through email as well as (1) written with our my message. If you are not using an active email, chance is you may notice it lately even though you browse the forum because it's too small too get noticed. In that case, if you think it's a problem, you can switch on option which will send you pop up message once you receive a message.

Click on Personal Message Option and check the 3rd option shown as below and save this.

Nice guide on the Personal Message use !

But i guess it would be more helpful maybe to move this guide to the beginner board , so the new users can see that and use it !

Nice guide, but I don't think that there are so many users need to customize their Personal Message Control Panel like this. Because I believe most of users do not make too many PMs back and forth. It is different for managers, or established users, but for normal users, like me, there are very little PMs in my Inbox/Outbox. Anyway, thanks for making this guide, that I did not know how to use it.

I think most of the people use the PM of this forum because here we have different types of people, mostly people join here for doing some busnisses, part time jobs and signature campaign.
PM system of the forum can act as a good channel in the communication.

Let me correct some part of your statement above. The op's guides is not mostly about customizing your/their Personal Message Control Panel. It's about making your Personal Message organized and helping us to know what exactly does the arrow mean that you can see on the chat bubble and many more information regarding the Personal Message Control Panel. I also understand your point as I am not using PM to other users that much just like you.

Thanks for the guide. I would like to ask, if someone knows if it possible to make messege “unread” again after it was read? I’m used to situation at work, that when something is unread - then it is not done.

On a regular mail UI i can read the task in the mail, make it unread on continue working or doing the task. When the task is done, I simply replay on email. It is ok when you receive 5-10 email a day, but when you receive hundrets, there is change to forget to do something.

I was wondering if this can be performed on the forum.

Not possible as far as i'm aware. Well, i've not yet been able to find such a feature, so if it's actually there, it's hidden quite well.

You can of course send a PM to yourself and then close the tab. quite unorthodox though.

Yes and you ate right, that you can "MARK" messages or an email on a regular mail UI that any of the messages you decide to choose will be "mark as read" or "mark as unread" and vice versa ("unread" to "read"). Even if the new message or the email that you recently received from someone else are unintentionally opened it then you can select any of the messages or any email that you want to mark as unread or read. Performing a "mark as read" or "mark as unread" to a message here in bitcointalk forum is impossible to perform such feature is not implemented to bitcointalk's Personal Message Sysyem. IMO, having a feature on Personal Message System where any of the messages that you want to marked as unread and can also be mark as unread but it is not a great feature to add in here and I think it's only useless to implement such feature in bitcointalk PM System because of what tranthidung posted that "users does not make too many PMs back and forth" which I also believed in tranthidung's post.

Thank you. I wish it help much people.

There are some more feature of PM system available, you can ignore someone if you don't want to receive message from them. That was a must needed feature for me.

This is great to organized your private messages so that you will find any private messages easily. I sometimes use the private message feature to save something like link to a thread, bbcodes to use and other important things that you need to use or keep safe except private keys and other stufd that can be used to access a wallet.

OP have been updated with translated link.

You should only use the PM system for the purpose of PM. Using this for saving private stuff is a very bad idea; more importantly if it's priv key or seed key. Saving these electronically is a very bad practice.
