Wishful thinking. But, I think, US is not first in this regard. Sale of grocery against Crypto has already taken place in Europe. Moreover, we now have almost all the gift cards available for Crypto. So, you can indirectly use Crypto for groceries.

Accepting Bitcoin is a great step, and if the network weren't so busy (= the fees weren't so high), I'd be glad to use Bitcoin to buy groceries on a market (given that the price is fair, of course). Unfortunately, though, the op is right that it seems that the LN is crucial for these kinds of transactions, and there are barely any food places that accept Bitcoin LN. I saw something only once, but it was an intermediary company that allows ordering Dominos pizza paying in the Lightning Network. I don't know, I still haven't found the time and motivation to try using the LN, and I've never eaten Dominos pizza

there are startup that come from japan and israel i heard rumors also from usa but not sure for this one, which help us to make to buy crypto everything from brands to coffee and other shit ))

almost everything which will lower the selling rate of crypto space and will lead to surge prices only of low supply coins without even demand will grow and market cap will not change to much ))))))

the price drop because the selling rate is high people convert it to cash like gold / and diamond yet crypto is store of value like diamonds and gold and cash in the same time and only grow in price

dont forget to send 100m dollars and 50 dollars its the same for this kind of thing you have other crytpo like ethereum and other low supply coins which still not grew to fully.

surely this is a dream for all, both for the consumer and for the seller because both will be facilitated in the payment systems. in some countries, payment with bitcoin is still banned, hopefully they revoke the policy because we now live in the digital age

Of course everyone wanted to see bitcoin going on mainstream, groceries, supermarkets, cafe's and used LN to make the transaction fairly quick and instant.

that is the dream of every crypto user.  in the future, we will use a scan of the BTC address code for the transaction.  our challenge is when many parties prohibit BTC.  like in India and in China, besides that, the government is also afraid that crypto adoption will threaten the national currency.  the reality is the crypto world can maintain and improve economic stability.

Right now its not really worth it buying small cost items with Bitcoins. We need to wait until the LN gets more adoption and usage by merchants before we see that.

Its no different than it was 20 years ago. I remember you wouldn't buy a coffee and pay by cheque or debit card. Since the fees back then were much higher for using cheques or debits than they are today. I remember when most places charged a fee if you used debit for a small transaction and depending on the bank, the bank also started to charge fees when you went over a certain amount of transactions per month.

So most people back then carried cash and pretty much paid for everything by cash. There were some stores that didn't accept any form of payment unless it was cash even. Times sure have changed since then.

And I hope your dream will come true in the near future if the LN will totally successful in solving the issues in bitcoin network specially speed, transaction fees and scalability because of all this dreams will not happen if this problems still exist until today even we are now using this LN thing but Im very sure that soon after rigorous testing and research of this LN we can finally use it in many ways like Shopping markets, departments store etc..

Fees are going to be an issue for transactions as small as this. But I think this is cool just the same, if only to promote the name and use of Bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies. If only to show to everyone in the bazaar that cryptocurrencies are real money, and that they can spend them just like they do with their fiat. Lighting is gonna come soon, anyway.
