The cafe looks great. The owner of the cafe have good designs. About the name of the cafe, I can see the logic behind it. The owner is thinking that your country will change their position towards bitcoin. Thus, in anticipation of this event happening, he named his cafe Bitcoin Cafe. Right now, he won't accept bitcoin in accordance to the law of the country. But if the laws change, he can accept bitcoin as payment and he already owned Bitcoin Cafe name. No other cafe can name their cafe after bitcoin. Clever.

I think that the reason for governments in this area bans cryptocurrencies is the rampant criminality there.
Governments probably try to regulate criminals and try to close every funnel of funding their illegal activities. They are not opposed to the technological innovation of bitcoin but maybe right now they don't have any other reason to allow it.

If this is indeed the reason it would be unjust. Cash, is as easy for criminals if not easier to use than Bitcoin. At least with Bitcoin you have recorded transactions on a public Blockchain, where as cash goes under the radar, and isn't public knowledge. Plus, cash is already used on the mass for criminals exchanging services, and goods.

Don't know what's terms included on the law declaring bitcoin or any other crypto as illegal there but any form of an advertisement on such illegal things is punishable by law at most of the cases. I just wondered how come the owner can freely operate his business? Or maybe like a form of a small protest or rally as part of freedom of speech?

Bitcoin itself isn't banned, you just can't use any foreign currency, and I suppose they put Bitcoin under that umbrella:

The ban comes as an enforcement of sections 4,5 and 8 of the 1947 law that regulate trading in foreign currency without authorization or general permission from the central bank. Section 5 severely restricts payments done outside Bangladesh, which definitely affect bitcoin payments.

You can probably also get away with USD and EUR cafes, except they'll need a special permit to actually accept those for payment lol.

maybe the purpose of establishing the cafe is because the owner is obsessed with bitcoin. so it's a unique cafe concept in my opinion and it can be used as a good promotional medium if indeed Bitcon can be legal in Bangladesh. because it will certainly be easy to attract people to learn bitcoin.

Indeed. Or, since he is pro bitcoin, he just used it as an inspiration and theme of his cafe which is great. It's different from other cafes which will surely attract customers whether local or foreign ones. This is also a good way of promoting crypto and giving people even just a bit of idea about it. Local customers may not be able to use it even though they are interested but, surely, for just the tourists who are simply traveling, then they can have the chance to know it better and eventually use it in a cryoto-friendly country.

Why don't you ask him if he is willing to accept bitcoin if the government legalizes it? He is probably saying no to you to avoid getting in trouble.
If cryptocurrency becomes legal, he will be the first one to accept crypto in Bangladesh, I have had talked with him. He is interested to accept Bitcoin but due to the law, he can't.

I think that the reason for governments in this area bans cryptocurrencies is the rampant criminality there.

Exactly Welsh. You can't imagine how much corruption is going on here. Our country would be more developed if the budget was expensed. Not more than 25% of the budget are expensed. That really sucks.
If Bitcoin is being used, the public blockchain will easily detect the usage of the budget and thus corruption will be decreased.

That is amazing. Even if your country will not allowed people to use bitcoin, at least this cafe take a good step forward for the other people's awareness about the use and about the positive impact bitcoin it may give to a business and to an individual. Hope your government will reconsider bitcoin.

Ironic, isn't it that here comes a Bitcoin Cafe but you can not spend your bitcoin in there just use your fiat to have your coffee served fast. I agree that this is the reminder for the people and the government to soon change their mindset on cryptocurrency before it is too late. I am sure that bitcoin and cryptocurrency can be helping a lot of people in Bangladesh and the government can be able to collect additional taxes from the business. I am suggesting that people who are into cryptocurrency in this country band themselves together and make some allies with people of the government who are sympathetic to the cause.

More like a travesty than an irony, but I guess that's how I feel. Getting quite numb to it to be honest, the daily ironies I have come to see, almost might say I'm normalised to the situation now:

1. Bitcoin cafes that don't accept Bitcoin.
2. Bitcoin accepting merchants that never actually see a single satoshi come their way.
3. Bitcoin traders who've never sent a single transaction (bought and sold everything in a platform)
4. Bitcoin investors who don't have access to their Bitcoin (no private keys, paid a broker to own a certificate that says they've bitcoin)

Perhaps, because all bitcoin transactions are public, they fear the day politicians are forced to declare under oath their wallet address so everyone can see exactly how much money they are getting, and from whom, and what they to with it...

Of course they could still keep hidden wallets...

Of course it is strange that there is a cafe called bitcoin, but it is impossible to pay with the cryptocurrency. But it shows the attitude of people to cryptocurrency and bitcoin. I hope this ban will be lifted. And in this cafe it will be possible to pay with a bitcoin

I became interested in making a cafe with a concept like that, why I don't think like that, well even though in my country it's also not permitted to use bitcoin payments, I think that will be legalized in the future

very interesting, it is a good way to socialize BTC and other crypto to the public.  it would be even more interesting if the cafe was always watched about the concept of the Blockchain and some crypto currencies.  I think this method is very efficient and we have to follow this Bitcoin cafe.  and hope many people understand Bitcoin.

Right, it is a good place to hang out with fellow BTC and cryptovurrency users outside but it would have been better if that cafe will really accept bitcoins or cryptocurrency as payments. I think this is a good way to promote cryptocurrency and I think a lot will be inspired in using bitcoins.

Probably, when the country will finally realize the convenience and usefulness of Bitcoin, this cafe will be the first one to accept Bitcoin as payment. More Bitcoin supporters will flock to this cafe. This cafe will become an icon.

If they are aiming at providing the general public with some Bitcoins related information then they should actually start accepting payments in Bitcoins.

With the lightning network now integrated , it is very easy for them to just paste a QR code and just let the public scan it , easily. It is more or so like PayPal with some fee only ...

Just some days to go, it will soon be free and there will be more public transactions made through it .

In Bangladesh, people are not allowed to use bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency. Govt has declared it illegal. The great news is our current Finance Ministry is thinking over it and we will probably be seen Bitcoin legal in the coming years.
In Dhanmondi, there's a cafe namely "The Bitcoin Cafe". Although they don't accept bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency, I see it as a great way of promotion, people will learn more about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. I have visited this cafe 2 times and asked to pay with Bitcoin but he wasn't agreed.

Photos are taken from google review.

Bangladesh, since September 22, 2014. Reasons for avoiding money laundering. They believe the digital currency will increase the amount of embezzlement made to fund all forms of crime. Whereas in fact if the government wants to work together and help and manage in every payment transaction using bitcoin, it will make it easier and more efficient. In fact, Bangladesh cannot immediately become a developed country.

there are still many countries that have not legalized bitcoin for official payments, just waiting for it all. Maybe with "cafe bitcoin" people will be interested in coming safe and more introducing back bitcoin in that country

I agree with you that this Bitcoin Cafe in Bangladesh is just a concept in preparation of Bitcoin legality that once finally legalized then this establishment will become famous in the area or maybe we could say that it is to promote and support the campaign for the legality of Bitcoin in that nation but since you visit this establishment two times then why not you just ask them directly of their purpose so that we will not keep on guessing here?  Grin

it is just like the owner has established that cafe because of bitcoin and other cryptocurrency that is why they used the bitcoin as their concept. And also the reason why they dont accept bitcoin is that it is illegal as this moment so maybe they are already prepare for for it.

The cafe is beautiful but I don't see why he is not accepting bitcoin as payment, That cafe though is quite good in advertising the bitcoin.
