I had been using Freewallet for a little over a year. Last month they updated their software and REMOVED a (ZEC) wallet address I had been using for over a year and replaced it with a new one! They did NOT notify me.

Over $1,000 in ZEC was sent to the removed address (I landed a block) and they are giving me every story in the book as to why the money has not been returned to me. I am furious.

I plan on contacting Apple and Google and hopefully I can get their Apps removed so no one else will get robbed.

The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

I have contacted them.  They are giving me the run-around.  They say it "takes time".  Right, it takes about 20 seconds to send money, if that.  The address that they deleted from my account, which is the one that I used for mining and where the block funds were sent is:

t1PHnGRHkiDRAQt6RNqtAt3EwdzoJVjzte2

What’s funny is, I always say “If you don’t have the private keys, you have possession of NOTHING”!  I need to practice what I preach.

Hello Mark,

Checking your support ticket, I see that the ZEC transaction has been sent to the old ZEC address, thus, the funds were not reflected automatically in your account remaining in the old address. We registered your request and will process the transaction manually in chronological order.

To keep receiving funds without disruptions, please update your receiving address. Thank you!

Let's discuss the old address.  It is an OLD address because you MADE it an old address with your update (see link below).  I was not notified.  How was I to know?  You claim an email was sent, I did not get it.  I read ALL my cryptocurrency email religiously.  Had I known, I would have made the appropriate changes.

In my humble opinion, the decision to remove old addresses with your update was not too smart (unless you believe your system was compromised).  Every other wallet that I have seen (Coinomi, BitPay, etc.) holds old addresses forever.  They can always be used at any time.  Why was it decided to remover old addresses?

At the time of this post, I still have not received my funds.  I am confused on why it is taking so long.

You know.. you could simply stop trusting 3rd parties and start storing the private keys yourself.

Security-wise you only get advantages when storing them on your device.

I don't see a good reason for not using a standard desktop-/mobile- wallet.

You are 100% correct.

I made a bad assumption.

Like most of the mobile wallets I use, you have the ability to dump the private keys.  I assumed Freewallet was the same way (but never actually checked), so I was not too concerned.  When this happened, I thought "no problem, I will just dump the private key" and sweep it into another wallet.  One can imagine my shock when realizing I could not dump the private key AND the address was no longer associated with my account!

Hi Mark,

I am happy to inform you that the transaction sent to the old address has been reflected in your account, please check your balance to locate the funds.

Hope this helps!
