Trump just tweeted about Bitcoin and his dislike of it. I think it's clear it wasn't him who typed it up, but what do you guys think? Crypto Twitter unite?? Tweet text: I am not a fan of Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies, which are not money, and whose value is highly volatile and based on thin air. Unregulated Crypto Assets can facilitate unlawful behavior, including drug trade and other illegal activity. .Similarly, Facebook Libra’s “virtual currency” will have little standing or dependability. If Facebook and other companies want to become a bank, they must seek a new Banking Charter and become subject to all Banking Regulations, just like other Banks, both National and International. We have only one real currency in the USA, and it is stronger than ever, both dependable and reliable. It is by far the most dominant currency anywhere in the World, and it will always stay that way. It is called the United States Dollar! https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1149472282584072192https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1149472284702208000https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1149472285905940480

not a surprise anymore, every time bitcoin has increased, there is always a fud, both from the president of the United States or from world financial managers such as the IMF, world banks and also who have a big role for investors like The Fed.

Yea I'm not sure why I'm surprised anymore really. It has to be someone from the financial industry that finally convinced him to copy/paste a bitcoin fud article to tweet out. It's funny because he's all like, "crypto isn't money, but if facebook want's to play with crypto then they need a banking charter because..well it's money" Meanwhile banks routinely get fined for laundering more then the entire market cap of bitcoin, and JP Morgan Chase's ship is found with drugs worth many times the value.

I didn't see that coming. Not sure what to think right now! I was worried Facebook's Libra would trigger unwanted attention and regulation of cryptocurrencies. Many Congressmen immediately expressed the need for sweeping and rigid regulations in reaction. It seems like Trump is following up on that same theme. This doesn't bode well. Everything we've seen recently from the SEC, FATF, OFAC, IRS... it smells like the crackdown is only going to continue. Trump obviously won't object to signing new legislation.

I doubt it, he only tweeted like 2 hours ago and BTC is still in the channel its been in since April. If it drops below 10.2k then we are out of that channel and things may change IMO

The Tweet might not be positive, but this is still free advertising. Take note that Trump has 61.9 million followers. That's A LOT of publicity. Unfortunately it's the typical "backed by nothing" and "used by criminals" arguments.
Surprisingly, the Tweet about Libra was quite neutral.

Libra is triggering these things because it is centralized and they have a door to kick down so they are. otherwise when it comes to cryptocurrencies there is nothing they can do about it as long as we are talking about something decentralized like bitcoin. they can put pressure on exchanges and possibly other centralized places such as web wallets like Coinbase or payment processors like Bitpay but in the end they can't stop bitcoin from spreading. at the same time they can prevent Facebook from becoming a bank or force them to really become a bank by applying to banking regulations.

As usual, Trump is again clueless as to what his mouth is spewing. Not real money? Well, how about a paper bill whose value is just assigned by a few people inside the central banks? And for his information, the largest drug trades and other illegal activities in the whole wide world are not using crypto for sure. They are using the very same currency which is proud to be regulated.

Publicity it is. However, it would be better if it was positive. We cannot argue that USD is the most dominant currency up to this date. But I think cryptocurrencies should be given a chance. Lots of people have their lives changed because of crypto; was able to earn money because of crypto, and was able to gain knowledge of this new breakthrough. And I must say, I agree with @Fundamentals that, that dominant currency is the one used for illegal activities globally. Just saying, though.

Trump as always in his element. ) Tomorrow he will change his mind, and write that he has long owned Bitcoins and believes in cryptocurrency like no other. I think you shouldn’t emphasize Trump’s tweets. He changes his mind too often. It is better to focus on objective factors that can influence cryptocurrency and follow the news and the development of cryptocurrency. It really developed throughout the year 2018, and this means that interest in the blockchain is not lost.

I think it's him. The potus must have been pressured by his "peers" in the business community since all their previous fuds are no longer working. It was actually good to see another known figure to talk about crypto even if it was in negative terms. Crypto is going to be the hot topic again in mainstream media. How about Justin's reply? https://twitter.com/justinsuntron/status/1149509941935239169Mr. President, you are misled by fake news. #Bitcoin & #Blockchain happens to be the best chance for US! I'd love to invite you to have lunch with crypto leaders along with @WarrenBuffett on July 25. I guarantee you after this lunch, nobody will know crypto more than you!

Even they cannot reflect on themselves that there are still mistakes made, but want to drop others with their same mistakes. Sounding cunning indeed, I was not surprised if indeed trump sent a tweet like that because basically he was cunning.

But the good thing is, after that tweet, the price remains above $11,000, signalling that not even the President of the United States can sway the price negatively. And it's about time though to hear what side his in, at least we all know by now that Donald Trump is not a fan of Bitcoin. He surrounded himself with so called crypto enthusiast, but at the end of the day, he has his own opinion, but it doesn't matter at all. And it might be his downfall, as a lot of crypto friendly individuals are eyeing that position.

You also have to understand that it is his job to defend the U.S. Dollar so we can give him a break on that.
About the thin air part i strongly disagree and he obviously knows how money works. But if your job is to substantially increase the value of the currency made in your developed country then you better be creative with the nice tricks you're going to use of course. Precisely what he is doing.
Some will argue that those are wrong decisions but i don't think they are. I agree partially with it but that is nice for us because of the advertising.

'not even' ? I don't think a lot of educated people from the USA do truly believe anything he is saying / talking about. Not to mention all the people from outside of the USA.. If educated people support him, it is because of their own interests. Not because they truly believe he is competent. Anyone whose money is at risk (i.e. FIAT-rich people), need to do anything they can to preserve the value of their money. And this includes keeping anything which does interfere with their plan low. You will never hear anyone of them saying that BTC is the new currency / highlighting any positive sides of BTC. I honestly couldn't care less what people - who need to preserve the value of FIAT - say about BTC. In the long run, BTC will go up and USD (or any other FIAT) will go down. I don't care about spikes created by FUD and 'fake news'.

Overall it's free advertisment for bitcoin. More people now will research for it. It didn't affect that much to people as bitcoin's price still holds above $11k usd. Maybe US government see now bitcoin as a threat so they are trying to eliminate it by spreading those fuds.

So, did anyone expected that Trump can say something positive about Bitcoin? But this tweet is typical FUD from person who knows nothing about Bitcoin. Drugs trade, other illegal activity - probably my neighbour or random guy on street would say similar things which already been used to spread FUD about Bitcoin thousands times. But actually US Dollar are used for illegal things at much bigger scale than Bitcoin - these two currencies even can't be compared in terms of illegal use. It's sad to see such stupid thoughts comind from leader of most powerful country of the world. But one the other hand it's not first and not last time when Trump tweet something stupid - it's already common thing.
