I don't remember when and why I received my first merit but I can tell you something about it.

Merit would come automatically for your hard work. A good post can indeed give you a merit if noticed by the Merit Sources..
So keep trying until you achieve success.. it may not come with 1 post directly, so keep trying and wish you a good luck for the same..
