I noticed user bitcoinroe has used trust system to advertise something:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=2547384

This is not cool. Can someone remove advertisement spam from trust pages?

Well we know trust are not moderated.

By the way, I am blown away by the creativity LOL and good to learn this new form of advertising. 🤪

It looks like that they are refuting the negative feedback they received with proof of completed payouts, claiming that they aren't scamming anyone. I don't know if the link proves that or not, but it doesn't look like their intent was to advertise.

I don't think they are advertising, rather they are trying to let the people who red tagged them as ponzi known that there site was completed. Still I don't think using trust for it is a right way ! Huh

They "refuted" in February. Recent ratings in July contain only a link to their site so it would be really generous to interpret the intent as anything other than a bump for visibility of their ponzi scheme, AKA advertisement spam.

The advertisers now can advertise their products for free! No paying for forum advertising or any signature campaign. I see Yahoo, Hhampuz, DarkStar_ and other signature campaign managers are going to lose some business in the future 🤪

What is the purpose of advertisement if there is not someone watching it?
The three members you mentioned are getting a lot of trusts feedbacks and sending a lot to so that it will be more like what happens in Altcoin spam boards.

So I do not think its purpose is an advertisement.

Then how I ended up on their site recently if it wasn't advertised on someone's trust page?

I already see threads in Reputation: "users A & B abused merit system to advertise site in trust page"

Maybe they will run "trust campaigns"?

If there are realy Users that spam some kind of advert and doing that in the trust feedback i would say give them first a 14 days ban and if they doing that again perma ban !
Also after they got banned for this the feedback should be deleted !

Or as other have written maybe some amount of Merits are needed to give feedback .

So what would members think if Jet Cash put a link in the neutral trust entry to register the ownership of an alt? It could be a link to the Baronets site for this account, or a page on the Jet Cash site that listed all his alts in one place.

Baronets is a private domain management service owned by Jet Cash.

The forum is already very dependent on the merit system, making it a necessity for a member to give a feedback on another doesn't seem fair.
If they are not on DT or a users' personal trust list, their feedback does not count, so it's not much of an issue.

As for the advertising, from earlier replies the OP was not meant to be an ad, but a poorly organized defense against spam accusations, also it's not like anyone goes to trust pages to look for recommendations on products or services. But it could be used to trick one to a malicious website, so mods could make an exception remove such feedbacks if it becomes a trend.

That's not the best way to advertise things. Red-paiting someone with your website won't make anyone click on this link, it doesn't help even with the SEO, because thrust is not accessible to everyone. So basically it's just this :

Well, to be fair, there's nothing stopping them from not using red negative trust, and just using the default.

I'm less inclined to be bothered by this just due to the fact that there's no SEO juice coming from this.

1. Trust pages are guarded by a login page (not readable by Google), so backlinks don't apply.
2. URLs are not converted to followable links (no backlinks either)

I do agree though, there should be a way for the community to unanimously decide that trust isn't reputable, and it should be displayed in possibly a different section, or removed all together.

It was proposed in the past too to get automatically removed the trust ratings made by banned accounts.
And trust abuse is an "offense" that should get the account banned. As simple as that.

TBH, even if it's as simple as a majority system, where an algorithm decides how many people are required to vouch against a specific trust report.

Then, if the amount of users is met, the trust report would simply get deleted, faded out, or some other UI change.

This would easily go against trust abusers such as the aforementioned user, along with users such as GP, etc.

I know the intention of the new system was to fix a lot of these flaws, but it still doesn't fix the issue of trust abusers, and the fact that their reports still show smack dab at the top of the page (even if in untrusted)

Happened to me a couple of years ago. I recollect starting a similar thread but got the usual response "Trust is not moderated" so that has still stayed on my trust page.

It's clearly advertising and a Ponzi. Don't know how to get rid off it. Obvious fake feedback like this should be deleted.

You can get that removed, I'd assume Admins are the only ones that can remove it for you though. Trust isn't moderated, trust spam is however.

Trust is already abused many times here on the forum but advertising on trust page is really another level lol Smiley
I hope that admins can find a way to stop it and ban such users.
