sometimes to fight scams you have to spend 24 30 hours in a day debunking their crap and that is exhausting. not to mention that they don't go away. take a look at one of the biggest scams of these days that is being pulled by Craig Wright. he is practically pulling an identity fraud and he has been doing that for more than two years. and no matter how many people and how much they call out his scam, he still continues scamming and there are people who fall for it.

There are so many reasons why people who already knew it was scam was still silent just because;
  • They probably want to dismissed, disregard it or do not care about it,
  • Don't want to waste time busting all the spotted scams,
  • They are just silent readers and will gonna come out if they only see worst scenarios,
  • Afraid.

There are still people who do not want to take a part of revealing scams even if they knew such projects were ljke that. Anyhow, I am grateful bitcointalk community users are helpful when it comes to scams. Thus, participating in showing and revealing whether such person, an ICO project or bounty  and a site is totally fraud.

There are loads of people in this community that does not keep quite if a scam is spotted, just look at the Scam accusations child section on this forum to see how active people are trying to identify scams --> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0

There is also external sites that is focused on highlighting fraud and scam sites, like https://badbitcoin.org/ to prevent people from being scammed.

This community are using a lot of social media platforms to warn people against possible fraudulent activities and scam sites.  Wink

I think as long as the project are having its announcement in the forum and has a bounty, they could not scam people here, as long as people are also reading. We are in a very active community, bitcointalk members has been reporting scams and because we are active, we have people who are willing to support and verify the accusation and if proven based on evidence, they would tag the project to warn the potential investors.

What ever happened to personal responsibility and just making sure that you yourself don't get scammed?
It's good if you're pointing out possible scams, but in the end everyone should just know how to spot them on their own.

It's really not that hard, when something looks too good to be true, it usually is.
It's also on you to do a bit of research about services, before you use them.

So, no I don't agree with that statement. I don't think you're complicit by just not warning other people.

Really good expression. But mostly on the forum, no one is silent.Especially when it comes to bounty programs.
I agree that this forum is safe for everyone because there's a lot of users here who busted scam projects most especially in bounty project space. This thread has been proven that there are too many projects that being scammed and I saw that members here who are scam buster just like they filter the ICO's project that possible scam or fraudulent. Therefore, no one being silent here if there is a scam project related to crypto space it should be busted here.

By the way OP who is that Mosa? Just now heard that name, is he a blogger?

Of course we don’t want to be silent, but not until whistler blower would be punished for no reasons, exposing a scam required some protection, staying anonymous is very important too, that’s why everyone should use a spare account to make scams accusation.

giving some merits to those scam busters is just one thing that you can do to motivate them.

they do podcast too. i once have heard them when i worked for a team that wants to spread the word about their project and my duties are to contact these people who can influence crypto investors.  they list these guys from badbitcoin.org also. i didn't know what happen to the project but if that project end up silent, these guys must have caught them.

Why should anyone need to have "spare account" on this forum to report scam? Any user on this forum can be anonymous, we do not need to provide any personal info to sign up, only e-mail address - and we can use Tor / VPN to access this forum.

I know some scammers will try to take revenge on user who discovered them in their dirty intentions, but what can they do if user is clean&respected member of this community? They can open new accounts and fabricate all kinds of nonsense in reputation board, but it's mostly all they can do.

I can agree with OP, there is no justification in turning the head to the other side when we see something bad - by doing that we help scammers to scam others. In case of cryptocurrency it is very easy to scam people, therefore it is always necessary to be at the highest level of caution.

Because doxxing is something that we need to take cautious of, there is no doubt anyone can stay safe in this forum, but how far can a person think they are safe from being doxxed by most notorious hackers, I’m not trying to say everyone is very good at opsec security and they can and will never be get caught by anyone for making any remark on some of the people and that will hurt their feeling, and this guy get triggered and they want to make a revenge, they will hire some guy on the deep web, some white hat or black hat hackers who offer service to doxx anyone, after the doxxing, reputation will be at stake now, and the Julian Assange or Snowden Edward definitely taught us something, it is very difficult to be a hero, the scammers will hunt them down if they don’t want to get into troubles, they became silenced.

Just like the saying 'an injustice to one is a threat to justice everywhere'. The cryptospace is filled with so many junk projects which are out to scam unsuspecting/inexperienced cryprocurrency investors/enthusiasts of their hard-earned money.  There are many platforms that have been created to expose such though even on Bitcointalk there are accounts that scrutinize ICO projects and bounty campaigns.

Yeah, I’d vouch for  “the most powerful”, a scam that go borderline absurd will definitely push everyone to get out and expose every single detail of that scam, I think people decide to allocate their time to some of the most powerful scams, since there is just too many scams, we no longer brother with the scam that amounting to a little money, a scam that as huge as bitconnect would definitely not going to get away under their radar.
