At the end of the first day, India's total was 200 + for 6 wicket . We saw that Karun nair and Washington sundar batted very responsibly at the end of the first day. But I did not expect India's innings to end like this at the beginning of the  second day. I expected a little bigger total from Nair and Washington Sundar. After losing Karun nair's wicket for 218 runs , India could add only 6 more runs to the scoreboard.

However england's innings was stopped at 247 runs. The team was able to take a lead of only 23 runs.. This is not a big lead. India will definitely have to play the second innings responsibly. If they can give a target of more than 300, the match will become competitive but it is very difficult to collect more than 300 against the experienced bowlers of England.

If you can't defend the wicket and in that case, if you can survive by batting aggressively, then you should do what England did. The wicket condition was very bad due to which India ended their first day on 206 runs in the first innings but wickets started falling from the beginning of the second day and they were all out for 225 runs. That is, they lost wickets while playing defensively but England didn't make that mistake and instead batted in ODI style from the beginning and managed to score 247 runs.

There can be other options out there, if you just want a workhorse. The issue is that the BCCI and selectors only want Siraj for that role. Playing most of his matches in SENA nations and then having a bowling average of around 32 should not guarantee a permanent place in the playing XI. There are a lot of talented bowlers out there in Indian domestic cricket, and none of them are given chances because one slot is permanently booked for Siraj irrespective of his performance. At least in this match, both Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna have bowled equal or more overs when compared to Siraj.
